- In our first Amazing Digital Circus theory, we concluded that the main characters are all digital copies of their brains. But brains hold A LOT of information, around 2.5 MILLION GB of information. And since this show is meant to take place in the 90’s, the best commercial hard drive at that time could only hold 1GB at a time. Sounds like Caine needs to start investing in quite a few hard drives!

I say that they are still plugged in/constantly sending data to the game. This would circumvent the data storage issue because they just send their actions to R.A.M. where it later gets deleted

Fun Fact: In a now deleted community post by GLITCH, they featured pins of the main cast with a Windows XP background, with Caine playing the role of the Windows assistant Clippy. This suggests that the computer has to be from 2001, with the game maybe being developed a couple of years before.

If this idea of brain transferring sounds neat, I can recommend two of the best shows of the decade. An animated series with two seasons called Pantheon (completed) and a live action, one season show called Severance (not completed). Highly recommend both!
Another one is the hollow, but it wasn't the intention to keep their memories.
There's also a show on Netflix about copying brains called the hollow

2.5 petabytes is about how much storage the main memory part of our brains can store. Simulating one entire brain would likely take more storage space than all we have on earth.
But, that might not be necessary, as you can just keep the original brain and use its signals.
Something I noticed is that if their brains are cloned, when the characters abstract, can't Caine just revert save? Something interesting to think about.
If the brain clone theory is true, it’s not the first time it’s happened in an animated show. At the end of _SAO: Alicization,_ it’s revealed that the remaining members of RATH kept a digital duplicate of Kirito’s soul (or “fluctlight”, to use the in-universe technical term) containing all of his memories of the century which he and Asuna spent trapped in the accelerated time stream of the Underworld.
The scariest part of this concept is that they can only clone the part of the brain that they want to make sure you never even try to escape
A 4D game
This thought honestly just makes it feel like the theory doesn’t hold up. If a single person’s memory required millions or even just thousands of storage devices, it really wouldn’t make sense to upload someone’s brain to the digital space (let alone how those would be accessed by a computer). 🤷
Remember that a lot of that computing power is not about retaining information, but a large chunk is used to interpret signals and to send motor resources
I'm still not 100% on board with the Brain Copy theory. My theory is, that the person playing the game gets sucked into the headset, body and all. This would be a possible explanation for why there is no body in the outside world.
Yeah, I always thought the idea of them being copies kinda ruined the impact/stakes of the story.
If that is the case then, they're just, not trapped at all, they just got their brains scanned and took the headset out, so what's even the point now?
Them being real humans that were actually sucked into the game makes it feel all the more dreadful, just as the pilot seemed to try making the digital world feel

It would also make Gummigoo's crisis a preview at the rest of the cast if this theory turns out to be true. Why even go on if npcs is all they are?
Can only imagine that a revolution like that could push some of the cast towards abstraction
The world is also surprisingly high poly, I wanna see a version that can realistically hold the size, I wanna see very low poly characters and locations.
If this is the case, I imagine the people abstracting is just their minds being deleted from the files and replaced, which this can be backed up by Pomni and Kaufmo, Pomni arrives when Kaufmo is abstracted, Pomni’s brain being added could’ve forced the game to delete the current most unstable character, that being Kaufmo, to make room for Pomni

Maybe they compress it, or abstract away everything but the bare essentials to form a personality on demand.

One thing I would like to point out is that a lot of the brain is used for unconscious activities, such as moving items through the digestional tract. The whole "you only use 10% of your brain" comes from this and greatly reduces the amount of hard drives
Hey can you guys consider making a digital circus short on when in the second episode right before Kaufmo’s funeral it shows Jax’s face and he looks genuinely remorseful/sad/upset/guilty for a second? I think it could be an important detail

i had a theory that caine was originally the games creator, it was gonna be a vr game that made you feel like you were actually in it, but when he went in to test the game he hadn't made a menu or exit button yet hardlocking him in the game, more game devs were sent to check on the game and they were put in the same situation
but' here's the thing
caine says he has no knowledge of the internet. the internet became public in 1993 and this all takes place in the 90s so chances are if caine was a game dev, he'd know what the internet is.
They can clone brains and have created a semi/fully sentient AI to have control over the digital circus, pretty sure that storage problem is pretty much already solved at this point

The thing is, most of that data is probably part of the unconscious or subconscious brain that is there to keep you alive, like how to breathe, how to force your heart into pumping etc.
This means that the data required to clone someone into a digital world would only require a fraction of the non conscious parts

Ngl, this concept of digital brain storage reminds me of a series called pantheon where people uploaded their brains to their internet thus becoming UIs(uploaded intelligence). Its a pretty good show
So that's why they lost their memories, there just wasn't enough space

i think the answer here is obvious. the creators never said the game took place in the the 90s, they just said it's a 90s game. this could be the far future. i mean, except for that one short on their channel that says the show will come out in 1995 which could be a hint at the time it takes place

I think that Brain clonig is not possible because like you said it takes a LOT of space. I think that they are the original humans still wearing the headset and the reason they can't take it of because while they have it on they don't have Control over their irl bodies. And loss of memories? I think that because human Brain Has to much memories , they get erased to take up less space. Plus if the creator of digital circus wanted to keep those wearing the headset stay inside of the digital

You can shave off a lot of that as biological OS data that's not needed for a digital avatar, kinda like when you buy a computer with x amount of storage but part of it is already filled with the OS and prepackaged software.
I think that the video game is from the 90s but the story takes place in modern time. While yes vr headsets have existed for along time they had a ton of wires and were super buggy the one that’s on the desk looks more modern. But hey that’s just a theory!
I think the reason others abstracted was because they learned too much and gained to much and the storage was overflowed, therefore they were forced to abstract and it was not because they lost their mind

I like to think that there was an issue on all of the headsets before they were sold, so the play testers tried on the headsets and became the characters. They probably made 250 million or 2.5 million copies of the headset.
