      Can you graft a different variety mango to a rootstock?

    Thank you for posting this informative video. I enjoyed it. It took my mango tree 5 years to finally produce mangoes. Here in central fl.

    We lived at Daintree in Far Nth Queensland for seven years. I planted approximately twenty Kensington Pride mango trees that I grew from seed and they never flowered in the seven years we were there. On return visits I was informed that they did flower at about ten years old and at fifteen years old they were cropping heavily. Night temps where we lived rarely dropped below 20 deg C.

      Hi Geoff, wow interesting! I certainly think our cold winter nights here would help trigger earlier flowering. You just reminded me to go and check on the tree this season (no chickens at the moment so haven’t even been in there). Covered in fruit! Hopefully some make it this year, last year none did.
      Thanks for sharing Geoff.
      All the best. Dan

      @@PracticalPrimate We are now living at Hervey Bay in Queensland where the climate is much milder. The mango in the photo is a grafted Bambaroo, bred from a K.P.. It is three years old and has been in the ground for about a year. It set about 40 fruit and I removed all but about 20 which are now almost full grown. The tree is about 1.2 mts (four feet) high, I am going to try and source another one. My R2E2 is the same age and is slightly taller, it has 6 fruit getting close to full size. It looks like I am unable to post a photo on CZcams.

  • @Coolclimatetropicalfruits

    That’s pretty impressive at only 3 years from seed. Will be interesting to find out how it turns out.

    Is this from a polyembryonic seed? Did it have more than one plant germinating?

    • @PracticalPrimate
      @PracticalPrimate  Před 7 měsíci +1

      It is very likely polyembryonic but by the time I found it only one tree was growing

      Hi. It did but none made it to maturity (fell off/taken early). It has another bunch on at the moment, hoping to taste them this year. They are an odd shaped mango but that’s all I know so far.

      @@indrajittripura4399 that's likely why, the guy in the video mentioned that cold snaps trigger flowering in Mangoes so your Mango may not have flowered due to that.
      Though, I dunno how you'd be able to make the air around the tree cold enough (probably aim for a bit more than 0 degrees Celsius) but its all I can think of to make it flower more quickly.

      @@PracticalPrimate RIP, that sucks xD
      But its okay, I was just curious since I recently had a Mango seedling germinate. Though, I'm gonna try a weird experiment with it to see if its possible to make a cutting with one of its seed leaves to get a "cutting" off the tree it came from (seed leaves kinda develop before germination) lol
