Indo-Pak Siachen War 1988

India and Pakistan are playing each other at cricket today in India. So I thought I'd post this short documentary we made for C4 back in 1988. We were the first TV journalists to gain access to film the Pakistan frontline high up in the Karakoram mountains. We had made personal request to Benazir Bhutto as we had also been the only journalists to manage to interview her before an earlier arrest on the orders of General Zia, who had previously ordered her father's execution.
Today's cricket match is a result of the current de facto ceasefire, but the issue has never been fully resolved.
I returned again to film for BBC's Frozen Planet 2 in 2019, again aerial filming with the Pakistan Army, though in Eurocopter Squirrels, not Alouette Llamas.
Please bear in mind this report was made in 1988, with standard definition video cameras and 4:3 format.

This is A very old report. Million dollar a day to maintain positions in Siachen is not a problem anymore in 2024 for India. For Pakistan , well that is another story altogether. BTW , reports should be unbiased, unfortunately the reporter never tries to travel to India. But then this been a 1980 report the western media cannot be expected to more unbiased
