I found one translation of a line from this song that completely broke my heart:
"I miss the smile of you, who flew out this window and died."
I think my favorite part about this song is how Shintaro is just so wrong. He believes she killed herself because she was suffering even more then he was, but she hid it through a smile. But as he is about most things non-academic, he is completely wrong as Ayano wasn't suffering, nor did she kill herself as an escape. She in fact was enjoying life especially with him, but as the songs prove, she killed herself to protect her family and him, as proven in Ayano's Theory of Happiness. The crane at the end is to symbolize that she wasn't suffering and that she loves him even now, as proven by Additional Memory.
I know this comment is old but Kano also made this guilt even worse. Crying to Shintaro “This is all your fault!” while looking like Ayano. Shin was always rude to her, even though she always stuck by his side. So not only have his best friends died, one straight up told him she was going to do it BECAUSE of him, to his knowledge. This song breaks my heart 😭 (info from novel 5 if I’m not mistaken)
I’m crying. This is my favorite song and I always go back to it. I love that people are invested in this.
I never really liked Shintaro's character until I found out his back story. Like, so many animes have a nerdy otaku as the protagonist without much thought, but Kagerou Project makes it so much deeper than that. Shintaro was scared of getting too close to someone again, so he locked himself away in his room and submerged himself into nonreality to distract his mind from Ayano's death.
Too bad Shaft completely messed up his character in the anime; hopefully they do justice to him in the new one.

That statement has so many things wrong with it. I think you should go an educate yourself about mental health and suicide in general. Seriously. If you think people want to commit suicide just for attention, you clearly have no idea what drives people over the edge. Their problems and reasons could be the exact same as Shintaro's. You can't dismiss "other people" simply because they aren't in an anime that you can watch on a screen.

I guess but not always, not all people are good at hiding even if they suffered a lot, and some people like my friend is just the happy type that just smiles all the time but they didn't suffer from anyhing but it's true most people that smile suffered a lot.
Literally it hurts me knowing shintaro regrets not getting close enough to ayano to understand what was making her suffer.

There is a possibility that Shintaro was already a damaged kid before you know dead dad with a possibility of depression, Perhaps Ayano's death was his breaking point at that time.
(Edit: Because of the horrendous and insensitive wording I initially wrote.)

Also there are the other two. The quartet went to one lonely shut in in the time it took for August 15th to roll over to August 16th.

In the manga, he even develops trust issues, ever since momo got her ability, she has a lot of stalkers and people sending her gifts and stuff, who wouldn't be scare if someone unknown sends it to you. She ends up being depressed and Shintaro was the one who protected her. It's pretty sad how much he had to suffer and I'm not surprised that he committed suicide in xxx timeline...

I rarely comment on videos with things like this, but this song warrants it.
I've known of this song's existence since about three years after it came out, so by no means was I here from the start, but I've grown up in my adolescence with this song and this specific cover. I cannot overstate how important this cover is to me, and all that it got me through and still gets me through; the vocals, mixing, lyrics, unique instrumental compared to other covers - it all lined up and it was exactly what I needed during some of the hardest times in my life. I don't think there's a song out there that I hold legitimately closer to my heart than this cover.
I highly doubt anyone will see this, but when I first began to listen to this song, I was in an extremely unsafe state of mind due to a lot of external factors, and I never thought I'd be alright again. I was young, and it was my first real, lasting encounter with depression, which has plagued my life since then but has never been as absolutely drowning as it was those first months. This song got me through those times. I barely even knew was Kagerou Project was, and I dearly love so many of their songs, but this one? This one was one that I loved without any context or understanding of the source, and it was one that stuck with me through this entire time. I've created massive, sprawling art pieces where I reference this specific song because of its effect on me and how it always seemed to be there.
In short, if anyone still listens to this and reads comments, especially the original creator of this cover, thank you for everything you did for me. Your art continues to have rippling effects on people in ways you could not imagine.

Sadly reminds me of when my friend died. Her mother abused her. I tried cheering her up everyday since she loved my drawings. Then she committed suicide the day we were supposed to try out for volleyball. After I tried out I forfeited out she died. I didn't go home, I ran to the spot we'd sit after school. There was police tape everywhere. A body bag. I just fell to my knees and I don't know how long I just sat there crying till i walked home . Now I can't under that tree anymore. I miss her so much. That day I wanted to kill myself also but I knew she'd be angry at me. So now I draw everyday and each time a full up a journal I put it at her grave so she can see.
That's deep man...that's real deep. Don't know what to say...

This comment is long overdue but I remember when you first posted this Juby!! All the way back when the kagepro fandom was just starting and was much smaller, before we knew the whole story. From the beginning, I’ve always loved Shintaro and Ayano’s story the most because of how human it is. In a world full of magic and powers, their time together was so ordinary and “normal” you know? Just two lonely kids who met without expecting to become so important to each other. Toumei Answer will always be one of my favorite songs and MVs in the series no matter how heartbreaking it is because of how simple and vulnerable the emotions are - both the small joys and the deep sadness. This was one of the best and only covers of the song way back then, and I replayed this SO MUCH. I love how you expressed the meaning of the song so well in your lyrics and the emotion in your voice throughout the whole song ; A ; it never fails to get me weepy-eyed and now, 7 years later, I still come back every once in a while to listen again. Thank you for this early piece of kagepro history ❤️ it remains one of my favorite things ever still, and I’m still just as touched as I was when I first listened to it :’)

What you guys don't know is that not only did Shintaro lose Ayano to suicide that day, but he lost his best friend Haruka too. What's mentioned in the novel that isn't portrayed in the songs or manga is that Shintaro was SUPER close to Haruka and when he found out that both of his closest companions died, it basically broke him.

What bit of hope he had left was shattered by Kano when he posed as Ayano a bit after she died (before Shintaro found out about her death) and basically blamed him for never noticing anything. That's why he blames himself.

Ayano committed suicide, Shintaro only realizes this after hearing the news from his classmates, he runs to the rooftop, the site where Ayano committed suicide, he then remembers Ayano who he last seen in their classroom crying, then after that he found Ayano's test paper (which is 56) and his test paper (100) folded into paper doves,as he walks away he then blames himself for Ayano death.
