    In Peking Opera, 丑(Chou) is not ugly. 丑(Chou) character means who is the funny guy is the oprea. Just like a clown.
    In traditional Chinese, ''clown'' and ''uldy'' are two words. Although they are one word in simplified Chinese, but they still have different meanings.

    Foremost, The Peking Opera had really and sophisticatedly intrigued me on how based on the characteristics of simplicity,
    symbolism and synchronization, were attributed. Of the music being deprived from the Two Main Melodies; Xipi and Erhuang, as well as of the Two Main Elements; Song lines would be either sung or recited and orchestral percussion interjections would be made. The Peking Opera is really just simple. I love the percussion patterns that are being played that make rhythmic and graceful melodies. Overall, it is considered as one of China's Precious Treasures. Frankly, I am just a student and watching performances of the Peking Opera made me so contented. "Jolly Good Show, Indeed".

      Hey there. I am still researching on the topic. Do you know anything about the shapes and lines on the masks? I cant find out the pattern that applies here. In the video he says for example red masks. Although there is blue, white and black in them. I guess the major tone of color depicts which kind of mask (in this case a red one) it is. But what about the lines and shapes? They are different in every face. Is there a rule to apply different lines or are they just random?

    丑不是丑八怪的丑啊。我的老天,居然发这样的文本来解释丑角。繁体里,这是两个不同的字,丑、醜。 丑没有醜的意思。

    Hi there, I have two questions:
    Is this video available without the subtitles?
    And do the actors always have facepaint or is there a performance where they put on real masks?

    • @user-wu6xl4wq5q
      @user-wu6xl4wq5q Před 7 lety +2

      Algrim Kurse I can answer your second question. Yes they do use masks aswell as face paint but face paint is more common because you can see facial expressions change and who on stage is talking.

    • @MortredMaul
      @MortredMaul Před 7 lety

      Thank you for your reply. Do you know where I can find more information about the perfomances with masks and not with facepaint? I am currently researching on that topic.
      I also have another question. I stumbled over the Sichuan Opera with their famous mask changing. Although the masks are made out of silk, the faces look very much alike to the bejing opera. Is there any connection between them?

    • @user-wu6xl4wq5q
      @user-wu6xl4wq5q Před 7 lety

      Algrim Kurse Im acctually quite unsure about where you officially see it with masks Im afraid. I think you should try this link:
      www.chinahighlights.com/travelguide/beijing-opera/

    • @user-wu6xl4wq5q
      @user-wu6xl4wq5q Před 7 lety +1

      Algrim Kurse Though I dont know much about Sichuan opera, I do know its made up of 5 characteristics
      Gaoqiang (高/高)[5]Kunqiang (崑/昆)Huqing voice (鬍/胡)Tanxi (彈/彈)Dengdiao / Dengxi / Lantern theatre (燈/

    • @user-wu6xl4wq5q
      @user-wu6xl4wq5q Před 7 lety +1

      Algrim Kurse Sichuan opera I suppose is mostly to do with environment and emotion. Beijing opera is normally romance and political humiliation such as a Manchurian Imperial comedy.

  • @CoconutButt
    @CoconutButt Před 2 lety

    Are these operas comedy’s??
    I’ve seen a few and I can’t find a hint of seriousness in their voices. Costumes aside, the singing and acting is.. Not laughable, but definitely make me feel as if you’re supposed to laugh.
