I mean. . .that same man said he'd kick her out if she didn't give him a child, and given that she's an orphan with no family connections to take care of her, her choices after that are starve or become a prostitute. He took her virginity when they got married, so it'd be harder for her to get another husband. For him its an emotional issue, for her its a matter of survival.

Because she realized what she had done was really awful once she overheard her husband say that if it's a choice between letting the wife survive or the baby then please let the wife live and she knew how much she wanted to have a child but realized how much he loved her more ... that made her feel guilty about her lying and cheating .
I guess she needed to redeem herself and find forgiveness in the eyes of the Lord ... I guess she felt that if she went with her lover she would have been rewarding herself for lying and cheating but instead she wanted to do the right thing in the eyes of morality and the eyes of God
