There is a reason Trace McSorley held so much magic for Penn State. This kid helped drag the program back into national relevance, he Barkley and Gesicki were an absolute trio. I miss seeing him play 😂

Saw this live (wasn't there but saw it on TV). Went from 100 DB to, like, 2 DB in a matter of seconds.

You could hear a pin drop in Kinnick after that TD. I’m hoping for a more comfortable win tomorrow. Quite frankly, I’ve seen too many dreams go to die in Iowa City for me to feel, in any way, comfortable about this game

McSorley was a great football player. He never gave up, ever. The thing is Johnson used up his whole PSU career on this drive. He had 3 important, big time catches. He couldn't catch squat after that. He eventually transferred to Oregon for his last year. It's strange because we thought he would be a dominant player. He was big and fast.
saw Juwan Johnson on an NFL roster last week...can't remember which team , but all I could think of was this catch.

I'll never forget that night. I was in a bar in downtown State College watching the game. Everyone was on their feet watching that last series. When they scored, the entire bar just went nuts. It was such an awesome experience
I was in my living room and woke up my whole family lol.
diehard iowa fan, and season ticket holder. this was an epic game. the right team won. fun to rewatch that battle of the stout iowa defense vs the studs on the penn state offense. great game, and the right team won.
This will always be one of my favorite PSU games. That’s literally how you get an entire stadium to go nearly silent O.o

Saquan rightfully got most of the credit for how good the Penn State offense was in 2016 and 2017 but this drive was about Trace McSorely. With the game on the line against a very good defense in a very hostile environment he made clutch play after clutch play, saving the best for last. He made a really good throw to Blacknell on 4th down to stay alive. Then he scrambled for a chunk of yardage and hit Johnson down the sideline with a beautifully thrown ball to get them inside the Iowa 25. Saquan got them inside the 10 with yet another brilliant run which set up an unbelievable touchdown pass to win the game. Other than the Ohio State game in 2016 and the obliteration of Michigan in 2017 this is my favorite game of the James Franklin era.
This is the kind of drive you see in a cheesy movie that's so serendipitous and dramatic you call bullshit. But this time, it was not bull shit.

This game took about 7 years off the end of my life, but this is the kind of drive legends are born from. Hats off to Iowa though, their crowd looked amazing on television and I love the 1st quarter wave.

on a 4th and 12 with like 1 minute or so left james franklin decides the big brained move of handing the ball off to the running back instead of asking trace to do an RPO

What makes is more amazing, is the fact that it was fourth and two , they passed it over the middle , and got the first down then it was fourth in goal with four seconds left , that situation itself makes this amazing

This reminded me of the clutch drive through the years that defined a championship season, 1982 vs Nebraska, 1994 The Drive" against Illinois, and 2005 vs Northwestern for example.
My only visit to Kinnick. Obviously I was happy with the win but I loved the stadium and the fans, for the most part, were damn nice people.
I went on a boat tour with Penn States Head Coach down in Florida a few years ago... Didn't even know it was him until I looked at the pics of him in the background.
Iowa is the hardest team to beat in the Big ten when they are playing at home. Tell all Buckeye fans, including me

And Penn State was using a third string, red shirt at right tackle. There were some miscues and QB pressure from that plus it was hard to punch it in when Iowa's defense stiffened in the red zone.
I was happy when Iowa scored the touchdown leaving time on the clock for us 😀

Besides the 1994 team led by Kerry Collins.....this was my favorite PSU team. They had such swagger and were lethal at the skills positions.

You mean the refs kept Iowa in the game. That was embarrassing. PSU clearly in a different class than Iowa to beat the refs and a ranked team in rowdy road atmosphere.

2017 should've been our year man. We choked against Ohio State so badly it's not even funny. Blew our chances of making CFP and gave the mental edge back to the buckeyes.
Watching Wisconsin and Penn State that year both had an opportunity slip right through their hands vs OSU.Watching the Badgers and Nittany Lions just blow it was just tough both were that close to the CFP.

Iowa is always the best game of PSU's calendar, home or away, they play so well for their talent level, very hard working team. Ohio State is a close second, but has more talent and is not as driven as the Hawkeyes. IMHO
McSorley might be a stud but we'd be lost without Barkley and Gesicki. Was a little disappointed to not see TT in the game at some point.

We through a watch party on our front porch. We had almost 100 people on our front lawn, with cops across the street watching with us. Bout 100 cases of underage drinking happening right in front of em, but when penn state cops get to watch Penn state football while still on the job, no way they were gonna ruin their day by doing anything about it! XD.
