  • When TDE showed up on the scene they quickly established themselves as a major force to be reckoned with. And their absence has been highly noticeable over the past few years. But they seem to be back in the game with the long-awaited return of one of their most exciting artists...Isaiah Rashad. It's been 5 years since Isaiah dropped 2016's The Sun's Tirade. Was The House Is Burning worth the wait? Is this a worthy return to the scene for TDE? Listen to the fellas discuss it and then leave your thoughts in the comment section!

For me this album was the end piece of a beautiful trilogy. From Cilvia to this album is a uprise, decline, to finding a in between in life to where he is comfortable. Cilvia was him getting into the game and being not only vulnerable but also ignorant to reality, The Suns tirade was the tragic decline of his drug/ alcohol abuse with depression and writers block. Now THIB is literally that meme Mike mention of that dog in the house on fire, he found his composure and found his comfortable place in his mental. Even when things are fucked up around him Isaiah is at peace. That was I took from this album, AOTY contender for me

Being a similar age to Isaiah, and going through a lot of the same problems(minus the fame) made these albums a fucking blessing to have in my life. This man's music expresses being functionally depressed better than anyone/anything. It's more than music, these albums have been therapy to men of our generation.

I mean look around rn, the news got us shook in fearful times. The choice we have is the energy and effort to respond.
I also think Feefo's point is a bit misunderstood. There are HARD undertones to this album. And how does Zay perform upon it? He goes with the grain, with the punch so to speak - therefore, minimizing the end result and the impact.

After a lot of listens i think this album is a reflection of his 5 year hiatus. “The house is burning” represents his life falling apart due to alcoholism & drug use, and how he was just chilling during that period of time. Majority of these songs were written & recorded all throughout these 5 years which is why he sounds heavily intoxicated on most of these songs. The hidden track in “HB2U” is a depressing sort of victory lap. “You are now a human being” represents him realizing he’s made it out the fire but his struggles are still there, but the future is bright. The “House” represents his brain and his path to finding clarity through solely just accepting the chaos.

Actually he said in a couple interviews that he started making this album in 2019 and was completely sober for all of it. I think we have to consider the almost defiance to talk about his struggles in the past 5 years a theme.
The fact that the songs are so mellow and blissful, the lyrics hardly mention his very public battle with alcoholism, writer’s block, going broke, etc - and the very intentional mixing of his vocals and the use of distortion on his voice throughout the entire album to hide his vocals and lyrics… I almost see a theme of unwillingness to be vulnerable.
Like they said in the review, an acknowledgment that your life is going through a turbulent time but you will not open up to outsiders about the trauma you’ve experienced, either out of pride, delusion, or just your own self preservation.

It was dope but his other projects are WAY better. In this album, it seems like he just didn't give a F really overall. Sun's Tirade and Cilvia Demo are way better because Zay was way more versatile on those tracks. Chilling but also dropping some mad flows and lines.

As chill/mellow as this album is, its his darkest piece of work to date at this point in his career. To me his music videos for this album is the main story and there's a order his music videos should be watched including 200/warning in order to fully grasp the idea the album gets to. And to me.... THIB is such a hard song. I still don't believe no one understands how fire that song is. Like to me thats the best song on the album. Dude... That flow he used, the whole way through and his delivery is so perfect on that song. He literally was telling a story completely mindfucking you with everything he's saying. Like bro, go check out that song. Idc if he sounds chill on that song, he's not chill on that song. Headshots and rip young is more up the alley of truly mellow and comfortable both sharing the same sample. From the garden is... Well... Yk?... His coming out song... Lol(idc i still love his music, and he's not truly gay gay. He's bi). Chad was a vibe song. Almost feels like TST song. Lay wit ya tho. That song is way more important than i think its supposed to show. Watch the music videos in this order after the listen to the album. I promise you'll thank me...
    Music Videos in order:
    1. 200/ Warning
    2. Lay wit Ya
    3. From The Garden
    4. wat u sed
    5. CHAD
    6. THIB
    7. Headshots
I placed headshots after THIB due to the similarities in vibes being so psychedelic and atmospheric tones between each other in a way. I could be wrong. But this album is conceptual.
My favorite songs on this album
    1. Geodran's Favors
    2. THIB
    3. Darkseid
    4. Headshots
    5. RIP Young
    6. Hey Mista
    7. All Herb
    8. Don't Shoot
I still don't know where to place this on my list of Zaywop projects, however I do believe this album is his most personal one and every song is supposed to sound like its own flame. Just how I saw it. If anyone feels like they'd like to add to this comment express thoughts, that would be amazing. Feel free to lmk whatever your thoughts are about this album.

I love Zae and yeah there are a few solid joints, but I personally couldn't get with his monotone, lackadaisical, repetitive flows. He always been smooth/laid back and is great at making records with a certain level of ambiance, but I just cant think of any bars or flows that make me wanna come back. Definitely some dope beats for sure..
