I had a college professor who actually encouraged the "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying hard enough" mindset! His class was extremely hard. He knew that in life, you are rarely alone to work on the most difficult business solutions. Basically he was doing what you said...find everything you can to give you the greatest advantage for success, and use it.

I keep bullion cubes in my kit, and have a cup before bed. Keeps the core warm, and it's a tasty treat in the bush.

The only Nalgene canteens I see here in Canada are collapsible bag canteens, but I'm on a mission. I've used hot water in 500ml Nalgene bottles with no problem and heated round/oval/flattish beach and river rocks till I could hold them and put them in my sleeping bag.If I can't pick them up bare handed, I just wait a while. Thanks. Cheers.

Love this: we used to do the hot water bottle trick back in the day and it worked fantastic while sleeping in deep snow conditions in Wyoming. I hadn't thought of that in years. Thanks for the refresher :-)

Very good Blackie Plan for the worst and dial it back when needed. Similar to like wearing layers, can always remove if need be. I've used things like hot water , and (usually) reusable hand warmers here in Canada to aid in keeping warm. Very good tip about pre warming a shelter /sleep system up as it can take a bit to warm up a sleeping bag. Im like you my feet get cold first usually

All good tips. Also a lot of people wear to tight of clothes to bed and it restricts blood flow. And if you need to get out and pee do it. when you try and hold it the body will try and keep the urine warm so that when you do go it will empty the bladder this steels warm from the rest of the body. Keep the videos coming.

In the winter when tent camping I’ve always thrown a few hand warmers into my USGI sleep system about 30 minutes before hitting the sack to warm up my bag and they keep it nice & warm especially by the feet overnight.

I did I bought the toe warmers, the first thing I learned is that you really need to use thick socks.. no I don't mean just thick I mean really really, really thick socks two pairs would be a good idea, those jokers get darn hot. Didn't go to the field but I did test them at home in my own bed, they work and I thought they worked too well.

A sleepping bag is a soft thermos. It keeps hot things hot and cold things cold. My advice is to do some push ups and jumping Jacks before bed. Get warm and get the blood flow g. You'll sleep warm all night.

Blackie get you one of those shiny car or truck windshield reflectors to keep heat out of car place it between black bag and outer bivy bag it helps and cheap I got mine at dollar store here. Also eat you a bit of spam before bedtime the fat helps keep your body working to digest and keeps you warm kinda like the eskimo would eat whale fat or oil to keep body warm I carry the spam single slice packs .

I was elk hunting in Colorado several years ago and it got COLD. I was sitting still watching trails and I was shivering. I had some of the foot warmers, like your toe warmers, they have a little adhesive on them. I stuck them to my undershirt on my ribs under my arms. I was toasty. Things like that sure make it more enjoyable. Have a good time on the campout.

All great information brother! I got several bags of the hot hands and toe warmers at Wally World for a dollar a bag after deer season. I try not to depend on them but they are good to have in the middle of the night sometimes. I also have an old John E hand warmer to use on occasion as well. Since my back started torturing me, I have primarily slept in a hammock to camp even in cold weather. Insulation under the hammock, be it an under quilt or an improvisation to fight convection is essential. The MSS also helps a lot as well :) I will bring that myself this weekend. I find that removing my socks and outer clothes usually helps me keep warmer. Socks and outer clothes seem to restrict circulation and often end up making me feel colder. If it is I do keep socks on, I always change into a dry pair that is reserved for sleeping. I also often wear my medium weight wool base layer to sleep in. It wicks moisture well and is loose enough not to restrict circulation. I am getting excited about spending a couple of days down there with some good folks!

I wasted a bunch of money on the Hot Hands toe warmers this last hunting season. If I took my boots off, the toe warmers swelled up like balloons and I couldn't get my boots back on. I have written twice to the company that produces them, however, they don't have the courtesy to respond. Very poor customer service.

Hummm.... how about electric socks, electric blanket, etc. Lol Personally, I just use a couple of dogs.... really I do... They are the best heaters and they snuggle to get warm too... just saying...
Thermal underwear also makes good pajamas... or sleep naked. If you sleep in your day clothes they will get damp from preservation and you will freeze when you get out of your bag. Soooo, I change when I get up. Also, before you crash for the night make sure you have a quick fire lay prepared to get your morning fire and coffee going.... just saying...
