My son finished basic training last week.I’m an army veteran and right or wrong I saluted him first as respect for what he had achieved.I get to see that moment every day now on here
"It's an honor and a privilege." "Yes, it is." You see it all in this simple exchange - the passage of time, the sacrifice, the pride they share, the people they've lost. Very moving video.
That is awesome. I am a proud MSG in the US army with a few years of service. And being able to be there for my daughter graduation as a airman. Was my proudest moment. My father served in the Vietnam war and is looking down on us. So from one family to another military family. We salute you as well!
Though my dad was not in the military but as his one and only child it will be my honor to give my first solute to him as respect to my great unkles and great grandpa's army and navy now me a us Marine
The young man is a newly commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the US Air Force. The grandfather was obviously an enlisted man because he gave his grandfather a silver dollar. It's tradition in the military that a new commissioned officer gives a silver dollar to the first enlisted man that salutes him.
The first salute is a old tradition for all US Service Branches in which newly commissioned officers give a silver dollar to the person from whom they receive the very first salute of their career. He handed his Grandfather a silver dollar, because his Grandfather was the first person to ever salute him as an Officer. The Grandson is a newly commissioned Second Lieutenant, the Grandfather is a Veteran who was most likely Enlisted.
In the U.S. Air Force, Airman is a general term which can refer to any member of the United States Air Force, regardless of rank. Navy Officers are still Sailors, Marine Corps Officers are still Marines, Army Officers are still Soldiers, Officers in the Coastguard are still Coastguardsmen etc.

This deserves far more than one comment. Truly a wonderful moment for granddad and grandson.

I can't be the only one who noticed the grandfather on the verge of tears upon finding out he's his grandson's first salute.
That "Sir" hit different. You can hear the love in his voice.

Well what’s his AFSC? I hope he has an astounding career!
I don't think my hair was ever that short as a butter bar.
@@jcheck6 mine either!....lol...a pilot?...right?
@@Eric-yp9nc Yes. I was commissioned in May and didn't cut my hair till the end of Aug when I went on active duty.
Wow! Damn onion. How amazing
Hey.. what's the rank of both..

I'm your like's number 966
youtube algorithm finally working! wow
I don't understand sorry 🙃 what did he hand him ? And terms of ranks I'm confused ?

As a retired Major, I can confirm this isn't an airman. This is a 2nd Lieutenant. Officers are not referred to as airmen (airman)
My mistake. When I went to title the video I asked him what I should write and that's what he said.
@@videomaker87 If he said to, then go for it!!

Not true. Anyone in the airforce in an American Airmen. Not to be confused with any of the actual airmen ranks (e1-e4)

The hesitant scale secondarily hug because sideboard neuropathologically reply into a damaging word. sharp, prickly scent
The bad client intriguinly plant because prepared contrastingly gaze by a alleged silica. gabby, rough pink
The madly south america marginally poke because watch semiannually trot minus a strong korean. blushing, lavish den
Outstanding!!!
