    Started running a few of the no bs beaver extremes this year, and yes I caught myself in one. It’s a stout trap, can’t say it’s stronger than my mb 750’s but it definitely has a better catch area and the pan is better.

    Love that set, well done. Watching your videos got me started on these sets. We learned about them during our trapping course but your videos show how its done. I started standing a small thin stick alongside the drowning rod so when the trap is pulled down it knocks it over. It works as a guide stick and when its gone when you walk up, you know the set was successful.

    Looks good for clay, but muck, loose sand or rock would make it tough. Any time staking always has that drawback. Obviously a front foot set up.

    I'm in Mississippi, and 1/8" cable has been the best on drowning sets for me with old 25lb flat weights I had left from an old workout system. I'm relatively new to this. Just trapping nuisance beavers for farmers. Good money and meat! Question: how many beavers is typical for a colony? And do you have to switch things up to get the last few? Im like 5 beavers in and the catches are getting further and fewer in between. I know where the lodge is, and I still haven't gotten within 100 yards of it.

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  Před 2 lety +3

      I used to use cable but it has a very short life span. After a few catches it gets kinked and the trap doesn't always make it done the wire, hangs up on the kink areas. Drowning rods are bulky but never go bad. You can take all the beaver with the same sets. Generally you'll have 2 adult beaver and 2 or 3 smaller ones

    • @garrettsayger1275

      That's good to know. I've caught 3 smaller ones and 2 big ones. I think I'm near the end of this group! Excellent info as always! Thanks for the reply!

    What's the point of these traps over the 330s? I have never trapped before so I honestly have no idea. To me it just seems like it takes longer to kill the beaver. Not trying to hate or anything, just curious what you get with these you don't with a 330 given the implications.

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  Před 2 lety +1

      You can make these sets in shallow water by shore where a 330 must be half submerged. Also you'll catch trap shy beaver in these sets where a 330 they will shy away from.

    Takes a lot of beaver to pay for traps and rebar anymore. Unless you are getting paid to get nuisance beaver out, hardly worth the fuel. Ya just gotta love hanging a 50-60# animal. I still get em for the meat.
