Would you all be interested in a part 2? We clearly left a ton of brands out!
yes pls
Yes.
Yes. C.Ward. Certina and Sinn were all doing great stuff in 2023.
Yes. Would be interested in your thoughts on Frédérique Constant
No. You muntz.
Leave Michael on camera. No hate to Sam but we got a good thing here
Sam has been upping his game recently…. Better eye contact with camera and better preparation. Still not quite the same chemistry as Michael, but he is getting much better
Michael genuinely looks like he is giving his opinions rather than just agreeing with Christian on everything they talk about. It seems pointless having someone who says Yeah / Of Course to pretty much everything that gets said.
Sam is just s**t. Noore to say there..
I like Sam, it’s good to see him learning he’s right at the start of his knowledge set.
Sam and Michael would be the best combo. Let Christian film.
No Grand Seiko, Journe, Christopher Ward, Glashutte Original, Blancpain? Might be interesting to do this with micro brands.
I miss Nomos and Oris😅
There should definitely be a part II to this
Montblanc?…
@@mikemorgan-swinhoe7932 Not a pen ranking list :p
Hamilton
I feel Nomos and A. Lange & Söhne also represent German culture as well as Cartier represents French culture
00:00 Michael's first sentence proves to me already why I love him on the show and don't want to miss him:D
Nice to see Theo back. Welcome back Theo!
longines and tag heuer deserve S-tier ratings for 2023
The peoblem is, brands listed are very poor selected. Grand Seiko, Hamilton, Oris, Christopher Ward, so many cool stuff was lacking
Indeed!!! They’re missing 20 different brands and companies
I'm not sure why several outright fashion brands got air time, squeezing out some genuine watch brands. We could have left almost the entire D category out and have been none the worse for it.
yes strange choice of brands to rank... but then I thought about theo and harris website and offerings, and realized that it is a fashion-first podcast (minus the fake)
Yeah! They left out SO MANY watches. No Universal Geneve, no Benrus, no smaller brands or new upstarts
Just so you guys know, BVLGARI was started by Sotirios Voulgaris in Epirus Greece, who left Greece during the Ottoman Empire and opened his first location in Napoli then later opened their first store in Rome.
The Greek spelling for his name is Voulgaris, he Latinized the name to Bulgari ( BVLGARI)
The company was acquired by French company LVMH and the Bulgari family own 3% of LVMH .
Cool story bro.
@@christianellopm my Relatives on my Moms side are from Epirus , they were from the same village .
That's fair and awesome history.
If we were to be devil's advocate though - do you think the brand would be the same if they didn't move to Italy and have all the Italian influence?
@@christianellopm No, if they would have stayed in Greece he would have just been a village jeweler. Greece was too poor at that time and we were still under Ottoman Rule in some parts of the country .
It was destiny for them to move to Greece .
Hi T&H - fan and Patreon subscriber here.
Thanks for all you do and thanks for your integrity. Of all the people who had anything to do with The Thing in the watch world, I admire your going down there, taking one look at the situation, and leaving and not going back. Smart.
As a woman who is obsessed with watches thank you for giving Bulgari its flower for the serpenti. Overdue!
A woman looking for external validation???
admit it, u wouldnt touch christian with a 10 foot pole
@@user-tj1vh9qb7vburn her!!!
Ha no actually. The design is a master piece, the BULGARI TEAM deserve a lot of praise :)
From a woman pov what do you think about octo finissimo for men? I am tempted to buy but my gf thinks it’s meh 🫤
This was incredible. Really gave me the feel that not only is there such an awesome online watch community, but that there is such an amazing OFFLINE watch community. The fact that a video like this would be relevant to so many just made me realize there are others out there binging all of these channels. Cheers😊
Love you and Mike great videos. You guys are so much fun.
Name me a big release by Bulgari this year.
And I'm not a Rolex fanboy but Rolex had a pretty amazing year by their standards; the Daytona Le mans Paul Newman dial was exceptional. And they started putting clear case backs on their watches.
Come on guys, do some more research. Especially you Michael - you live and breathe watches but didn't know about the Longines release? Lol😅😅😅
Missing some brands I would be interested in like GO, Grand Seiko, etc - on the JLC thing, imo the problem with the price hike situation is the brand has been woefully behind the curve - the prices have been absurdly low forever compared to the other watches of the same quality and heritage - bad brand management for way too long and now they are trying to fix it which is painful. They should have been keeping pace with smaller increases for many, many years. Probably have more comments, but I am still watching - enjoying the content.
Came because I love a good T&H’s roasting session
44:05 No hate, but Christian mentioning he should “just” buy his dad a Lange 1 is extremely off-putting. There is nothing casual about a $20k+ expenditure on a gift. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, but personally it came off distasteful and condescending. Just a take - enjoyed the video though.
This is the kind of deep dive, nuanced videos that have helped make you guys who you are. "Dance with the one what brung you." Happy Holidays.
Putting Bulgari in S, and Lange in B, is just bananas!!!!
Omega as a B, but Breitling as an A. I think you got that one flipped.
Casio is an S? Patek is a B? It's hard to take them seriously.
Bulgary over everyone, that is mind blowing 🤯
But breitling is better…
@tywedekind2807 Breitling is not better at all. Omega is much more innovative and makes better movements.
@@bluemystic7501 I know, right? I can't.
Thank you Christian for talking some sense into Michael about Tudor!
Longines popped off this year. Y'all nuts.
Great video, love the honesty, perspectives, and chemistry. I hope you also get the deserved views from the clickbait! Love to see the Pt2 also on the brands missed, and maybe even a top 10 on microbrands/ones to watch.
You guys going back to the main set at some point or is this the new digs? Loved the depth and the color, shelves etc of the previous setup. This has moose lodge vibes 😂
It's pronounced Raymond WHILE, not Whale 😂 it's not even some crazy foreign name cmon guys. I have one and love it. Well made, nice materials, and affordable. Much better than a Tissot but not quite a Frédérique Constant.
Thankfully you have Michael here who has some actual knowledge about the history of Bovet.
“The blue is delightful.” Honestly, I respect Bovet immensely because they’re like “fuck all.. this is what we’re doing.”
Bvlgari is incredible. Glad to see someone resist the temptation to dismiss their watches
I like some of their models, but to me they're like Panerai - I really don't get why they'd be considered meaningful. And them declassing others along with Casio is just ridiculous. xD
Very enjoyable video nonetheless! I watched from the beginning till the end engaged. :)
wat ah great episode . . both ah u kilt dat shyt ! iBen watchin theonharris for DaPast cup ah months n iHave become ah huge fan . . thank u for all DaKnowledge , twin 💯
In 2023, Raymond Weil's Millesime Sector dial watch won the Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) Challenge Watch Prize. For that alone they at least deserve to be a C
When my nephew turned two a few months ago, for his birthday I gave him a Casio LA11WB-1, which is the smallest variant of the venerable F-91W. He can't tell time yet, but he insists on wearing the watch constantly. For about $20, no other watch comes close in value for price. And so the next generation of watch collecting is fomented.
Correct Harris is back!
Guys why didn't you include GS or CW ? (Grand Seiko, Christopher Ward) ❤
I think, instead of folding, Cartier should’ve just gone to Citizen and/or Casio for help. They do solar watches, and have been in this game for over 20 years. Maybe it would not have been “Swiss mad” watch, but it would’ve been a good watch with technology that actually worked in it
Cartier's not folded, they're just very slowly getting production going
I'd be interested in a part 2. But sober up first; Casio in "S"? Please........
Michael’s back… I’ll watch now.
Raymond Weil won a GPHG award, they have some nice watches.
Nice to see Theo & Harris back together again ❤ New guy doesn’t have that june a say qua
That was wild! Seeing you rank Longines on the same tier as rolex and JLC really makes it clear that they are incredible. I tried on their Zulu time GMT and it was so much better than I expected! Beautiful domed sapphire, black and gold bezel, and incredible bracelet. Perfection. P.s. do a part 2!
Longines is still a 3rd tier brand for the folks who don’t have the cash for a good watch.
Longines r incredible for that price, but still not tudor tier quality
Raymond Weil won a GPHG award this year.
Moser & Cie needs to be on the list!
Agreed... What about Grand Seiko, Journe, Christopher Ward, Glashutte Original, and Blancpain?
Love how much Seiko triggers swiss watch snobs
The intro was perfect. Lol
Oh, wait, Lange, but now in gold, bleah. Rolex, but now in gold, wow. They bought Bucherer, guys. That's what they did better then everyone else. And as usual, they are just better at selling.
Seeing Seiko between UN and Bulova is a travesty
Putting Omega, Patek, AP and A.Lange & Sohne the same category as Hublot, what a joke 😂😂😂😂
Christian….you are absolutely dead on with the Breitling btand. They had an excellent year with their releases this year. For example, the pistachio dial is absolutely a beautiful watch.
Would have loved to see Blancpain and Breguet discussed.
What is the software called that these lists are created in? I want to do my own
From a fellow Zero, thanks for the content...surprised no GS, or did you include them under the Seiko umbrella? I don't own a Breitling, but I'm really considering the Premier Chrono in RG - the 40 mm version - if it was 38 mm, It would already be on my wrist. I like the comment that a big guy a normal size guy can go in to a Breitling boutique and have the same watch appropriately sized to their wrist.
Tudor B for sure this year, great credit to Bulgari but Longines had an S year, can't leave out the 39mm zulu time (in titanium too as of this week!) Rolex also had arguably the best watch they ever made with the Le Mans Daytona. I agree on Raymond Weil but have to admit I may be eating my words next year, they have some exciting stuff recently
38:32 LOVE this piece. Breitling's red gold uses less copper than most brands rosegold which gives it such a unique hue and more value in gold.
a bit confounded by your criticism of Breitling's marketing, I see their marketing all the time, much more than other brands. Made me want to buy one (which I did). I love that they have actual pilots and astronauts as ambassadors and promote them properly. I don't care about Brad Pitt or Adam Driver (but others definitely do) but Charlene Theron was an inspired choice - one of the coolest women in the world (cf. Mad Max and Atomic Blonde). They are also regularly on podcasts such as A Blog to Watch (best watch podcast out there in my view).
Definitely missing a lot of brands from this list. Let’s get a part 2
Ulysse Nardin has a lot of great watches. Freak, The Hour Striker, The stranger, The Sonata Etc… The UN Marine Chronometer ( UN118) 43mm on a rubber strap is one of the best spots watches out there.
Does anyone else find that watching these guys helps you to just de-stress completely? After a long week I really look forward to listening to Michael and Christian bust each other's balls while sharing some really cool watches with us. My horological therapists
I’d love to see a - maybe live - episode with you guys and a bunch of other watch CZcamsrs (nico, effing time guys and the watch finder dude come to mind) doing a rating thing together. Watching you all arguing your ratings out I have no doubt would make for an entertaining Christmas special since there’s some polarising opinions out between you all. That said it might also be carnage and never realistically work.
shoutout to the CW&T solid-state watch! have one myself and love it.
Couldn’t be more wrong about Chopard but you guys are still learning so it’s ok
They neglected the LUC Chopard 1860, which was the best dress watch unveiled last year.
I wish AP would return to their history more. A quantieme perpetual re-issue, or something in that vein would be incredible.
The Lange argument is interesting, I feel that innovation is definitely a plus but is it a requirement on a yearly basis for haute horology brands like Lange? For an industry that measures its history in century’s, not decades. Does a brand like that need to have a hot new thing each year. I don’t think so but I see the argument, especially in a industry with as many options as watches.
Great video guys, but I think for the thumbnail you should feature the tier list more prominently with the actual company logos instead of specific watches. Creates more intrigue and makes the video pop more when scrolling through that CZcams feed. just a thought! 🙌
Ty for that! Gonna switch soon!
Absolutely brutal on Lange. So many S’s … B.
Missed MB&F, Gronefeld, Gruebel Forsey, Glashutte and more brands like chronoswiss. They ignore German high horology
Glad you gave Bulgari a nod. Only brand I think got dropped a line is Omega, some great movements at their price point and a nice history. Definitely would swap them with Tudor or Tag.
Great list and nice video, but what about Hamilton (defining American culture), Grand Seiko (pure Japanse culture) and Oris (independent Swiss company with unique designs and movements)?
I’m assuming you haven’t held the alpine eagle, I used to not give it the time of day until I tried one on in Japan when we went to the F1, it’s stunning. I feel it’s more like a greatest hits of the Overseas, Royal Oak and Nautilus rather than a substitute.
25:09 ''he felt the material...'' straight out of a Seinfeld episode! :D
Before watching, I’ll just say I expect to see Longines and Tag Heuer pretty high up
You guys are awesome
The OG Theo and Harris 😂 🎉
"Bulova stands for a lot more than Seiko"
What a horrible take...
Christian with the subtle Schultz no name drop ;)
Don't think this year was too bad for raymond weil. Their new milesime small seconds won a gphg prize and does offer some great value
Rolex Daytona was refreshed. It wasnt a shabbby year for the Crown.
The RW Basquiat Edition Chronograph is absolutely fire
An interesting take on the watch industry. As an avid watch enthusiast I agree that the merits should be based on how the brand innovates and responds to the watch aficionados. After all watches are purely emotional category.
Rolex could and would go to 'S' by making a titanium Sub and Explorer. Also, articulated end links on all watches.
What’s the software they use for the rankings?
Michael is back, I can watch again 🙌
Got an audible laugh from the intro
timex deserves at least a nod
I largely agree with your ranking, but please allow me to give a different perspective on the Alpine Eagle (yes, I own one :) ). If you want an integrated bracelet watch, but you typically aren't in the budget for an RO, an Overseas or a Nautilus, (honorable mentions: H. Moser Streamliner, Czapek Antarctique), but want something more refined than a Tissot or a Frederique Constant, you are left with only a few options, which all offer something slightly different on their own: the Zenith Defy Skyline (a bit cheaper, but thick), the GP Laureato, the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo (super design, but too big for many wrists), the Piaget Polo S (a ripoff), and the Chopard (awesome dial, but overall a bit generic design).
That's the first time I absolutely agree about a watch ranking list, like 95% of your rankings. Breitling fully deserves A with the Chronomats and Longines as well with the new Conquest series. Well done.
Christian, thank you for acknowledging Bvlgari!
At 37:16 we can see a subtle, expert pitch presented by Christian & Mike, aimed at Breitling to use T&H for a marketing campaign. 😎👍🏼 suave
You guys crack me up:
1. Casino & Bulgari God tier.
2. Micheal:" Oh sorry, I wasn't listening, I just let you go on that one."
3. Yeah we visited A. Lange & Sohne in Germany this year, we rate all your watches as S-tier, but what have you done for us lately? Lets put them in B.
😂😂😂
4. Put AP, Omega and Patek the same category as Hublot
5. Hublot at B
Breitling is on fire this year. I used to make fun of them, but even I bought a Top Time this year. Kern pulling from their back catalog and dropping the 55mm mall watches has gotten my attention.
I'd say Grand Seiko feels very Japanese culture similar to Bulgari feeling very Italian.
What camera are you using for such great video and i am a new youtuber on watches base in HK
While I agree with you that UN is a “B” brand, the Freak is an “S” watch guys…. It’s crazy-cool! Very Interesting, innovative, and tasteful at the same time.
This was fun to watch and i did watch all of it but you missed some important brands.
I laughed at your “Gucci for life”comment, Michael, don’t worry
Being friends with Shultzy is cool 😎
Talking about Bvlgari watches and a brand tied to the culture and Grand Seiko with Japanese culture I would put up there as well.
I have 3 Tissots and they’re still a C, because despite the decent watches they have, they also make a lot of junk you have to sift through.
57:21 ''Rolex - I don't know if they'll ever BS...''
A 1 hour T&H video on a topic this interesting? F*** me I suppose Christmas came early this year
Michael…..disagree about Zenith that they were a little boring. Look at the latest Kelly Grren dial. The Aaron Rodgers watch. It’s absolutely a stunning dial and also sought after timepiece. Honestly…..you should do a review on this watch. Possibly, this will change your mind. Let me know your thoughts?
