  • Hello everyone, so today I am sharing how I make pickled turnips. These are one of my favourite pickles. We eat pickled turnips with everything.
If you haven't subscribed yet, I would love to have you as my youtube family. Thank u so much for watching and have a great day, God bless you all 💖
    Pickled Turnips (Makes 2 Jars)
    Ingredients:
4 to 5 medium size turnips
    1 medium size beet
    2-3 cloves garlic
3 tbsp canning salt (You can also use kosher salt)
    1 1/4 cup white vinegar
    5 cups water
    2 Sterilized jars
Instructions: In a medium saucepan, mix the water, vinegar and salt. Bring it to a boil until the salt is completely dissolved. Peel and cut turnips and beet approximately same size pieces. Chop garlic to big chunks. Place chopped garlic at the bottom of the jar, fill the jar to the top with turnips adding slices of beets in between. Fill the hot brine to the top leaving 1/4 inch from the top and make sure all the turnips and beets are covered with the liquid. Put the lid on and let it cool completely on the the countertop then transfer it to the fridge and its ready in 5 days. Enjoy!

I have been looking for these for years! I use to get them with shawarma when i lived in Dubai back in the late 70’s and 80’s. That was the best sandwich ever with tahini sauce onion and pickled turnips!

I think the longer they sit the more sour they become, it’s just natural fermentation. But also the restaurants they put more vinegar to water ratio to speed up the process. Homemade is always getter. Hope u give them a try and let me know how u like them 🥰

    • @educationalvideos4151

Ah I read more since, and now I know that there's lactic acid fermentation, then there's the option of adding vinegar at the start. It's confusing because I've read various recipes with varying amounts of vinegar, some leaving out at room temperature for 5 days before refrigeration, so some recipes seem to start with some vinegar and then add additional acidity through fermentation.
