    I have the VG10 and k390 Endelas and they’re both beautiful. VG10 is great simply because it’s so user-friendly and easy to maintain. K390 shines in that it will sharpen to an unbelievable extent…the edge aggression you can achieve is unbelievable and it’ll maintain that front end aggression for a while. Aside from that, it’s all about what level of stainlessness you’re looking for.

    I voted Hogue. I figured the concept of a side opening auto is a little silly even though I have one. The difference between pushing a button to spring it open vs a flipper tab isn't significant, but autos have more moving parts to break, get dirty and gummed up, plus you pay a premium for the button over the flipper tab. If I wanted to buy another auto I'd go OTF but they are all so pricey, so I'd want to baby it. It's hard to justify a $400 toy that cuts cardboard when my other knives do too.

    Hap40 is closer to K390 than you think. It is very similar in structure to Rex 45 (some call it an analog but I don't think they are identical) and Rex 45 is in the same class for edge retention as K390. Outpost 76 does pretty good testing on all these steels and they are too close to call, I love Rex 45 (Hap40) and K390. I own several knives in both steels and I've never had to sharpen either of them so what testing were you getting the difference in edge retention for the two steels?

    Tactile Rockwall is an excellent slim gentleman carry. It takes no room in the pocket, legal in places with 3” blade length limits and cuts great. Mine is the original flipper version with XHP steel but I’ll be getting a second one with thumb studs, MagnaCut and Golf Ball texture on the titanium scales. I prefer it to my Zieba MS3 which is too slim and CRK Sebenza 21.

    Marv Thomas -I can't speak to the Knifecenter Exclusive with Hap40 (although all of the Hap40 I've seen is superb) I have the Endura with K390. Neither plain nor fancy words can express how excellent this blade steel is. It's still on the factory edge, and the blade is still almost sharp enough to split a Hydrogen atom. Edge holding on this is unreal. I'm excited to hear Bohler has a new steel coming out, K490 which has even more blade toughness, but the K390 is already tough as hell, and I believe this thing holds an edge better than S110V (might be because S110V may have tiny chips on the edge.) I whole-heartedly recommend the K390 blade.

    I recently went over our state laws in regards to knives with some people and pointed out that open carry dual katanas are perfectly legal but if you have a 3 inch blade that uses a spring to open you go to jail. It's just sill how many peoples attitude toward automatics are based off of gang movies from the 80s.

    I'd agree with your hunch about the knife sharpening guy. Strop or honing rod to complete the sharpening process is likely being skipped.

    Ok, I was a knucklehead last weekend and had my Damascus Civivi Pintail in my pocket when I went to a concert and had to throw it away. I loved the knife! Any suggestions for a replacement?

    Hey DCA! I recently purchased a holster to carry my Tactile Knife Co Bexar horizontally on my belt. As great as that knife is, it doesn't make sense for me to carry a $200 blade every day as my 2nd blade. What can you recommend as another option that is roughly the same in width, length, and thickness as the Bexar to put in my holster? Pocket clip is not important because it will most likely be removed. Bonus points if it can be opened and closed easily with one hand.

    Hey guys, maybe you’ve answered this before, but I’m trying to find uses for my smaller/secondary blades on my folders (Swiss Army, Case Peanut, etc)? I always just end up using the primary blade for everything. What am I missing?

    Curious. A few years back I purchased a Kershaw Thistle. When I first saw it it seemed to me that this was the answer to making a liner lock finger safe but the design doesn’t appear to have taken off or gained much popularity. Was this because it was first introduced as a cheap made in China knife with low end materials? I still have mine and it still works flawlessly so am curious as to what your thoughts are on this particular knife locking design and why it didn’t take off.

    Hey DCA, i have been waiting for the mkm makro since february and it finally released! I am almost ready to pull the trigger on the wharncliffe version, however i would actually like to see a comparison with the boker ak1, mainly in the grip comfort and blade geometry departments. Keeping in mind that money IS a factor which would you recommend?

      My MKM just arrived this morning. I would recommend it over my Böker AK1. The MKM hast this famous "reverse Tanto Wharmcliff" which I love. Böker has the nicer, classical wood handle. MKM is just "only" micarta. MKM has this "soft" magnetic sheeth, Böker AK1 has the scratchy metal util clip. The util clip is quite scratchy, but secure for a camping side. The MKM magnetic sheeth is very easily magnetic attached, but can easily get lost while you are climbing a tree, Maybe.
      I got the MKM 4 hours ago and vote for the MKM. Boker is slightly more expensive. But it is not over priced. You get some value for the money. (Better screws; wood handle, ...)

    Hey DCA and the gang. I was wonder what your experience is with modding knives? I like the boker plus lancer 42 but the nail nic is not for me. I was wonder how to best add a thumb stud to the blade or drill a thumb hole and enlarge the opening on the knife handle. Any advice would be appreciated.

    • @powers1776reset
      @powers1776reset Před rokem

      Drilling a hole into the blade is extremely difficult, being hardened steel. I would recommend that you have it done professionally, if you’re not exactly well versed at drilling hard steel. But it is doable.

    Is Avispa, in comparison to RAT 1, somehow lacking in functionality and character? I noticed that most any time 'hard use' folders are mentioned in your videos, RAT 1 is usually included where as Avispa hasn't been mentioned at all. Just curious as you do sell both of them on your website.
