- The Sabian XSR Monarch Ride Cymbal is an awesome and affordable B20 Bronze ride cymbal with a dark patina raw top, and a lathed bottom. It's a dry sounding ride with nice stick definition and a controlled dark wash. The Big and Ugly line might not be fore everyone, but it's perfect for what I do. Nice little jam! Cymbal fits right in!
Thanks!
Awesome play, that's what I needed! Great music!
Thank you!
Thanks for the demo! I have the 22" Monarch that, after 3 years of reluctance, has won it's way to become my main ride. I would bring it to gigs and no matter what ride I brought I would end up swapping for the Monarch to gain better control. Zoom recordings confirmed it. It's got that great woody stick definition and while the wash is subtle it's crashable too! The curiosity about Monarch hats became too much for me when, a month ago, GC had a near new looking pair of 15's in the Used Gear listings (new logo too) for stupid cheap ($139)! As a rule I don't buy cymbals online, I have to audition them in person, but I lucked up and they turned out to be perfect for what I wanted. My 18" crash/ride had cracked and I replaced it with an HHX Complex Thin Crash. A beautiful cymbal but it might be too loud for what I'm trying to achieve. I've always tried to have a musical approach but through the Zoom recordings I have found I need to be less bombastic. To possibly replace the Complex thin I looked up Monarchs yesterday on GC's Used Gear pages. They had a 20 w/ the new logo they described as being in "excellent condition". It looked like it too in the photo and it was only $159. I realize every cast cymbal is different. Your 20" Monarch is a sweetie! If the one I get sucks it's returnable. Not even a gamble with that in mind. I'm going to have faith it's a keeper, I have a good feeling about this one. Again, thanks for the demo and BTW that is a nice piece of easy on 'ya rock and roll.
Nice story. Yeah they’re really unique cymbals, no two sound alike. I have some 14” monarch hats too, great sound!
Nice! I have the 22" and I had my doubts about it holding its own in louder music but after hearing this track, maybe I'll give it a try.
They’re definitely not the loudest cymbals in the world, but that makes them pretty good for recording.
Sounds killer Man!!
Thank you!
Have you tried it with nylon tips? That could give it more projection and ping. Nice track and playing.
I did, and it does! Thank you !
I keep ending up back here. Cheers dude
Is this good for worship Music?
I really couldn’t say, as I have no idea what people like to use in worship music. It is a bit on the quiet side as far as rides go.
@@demonicsweaters yeah, i think worship music generally uses thinner washier sounds.
Really depends on the style of music at your church: these would not be good for brighter rock styles. This would be great for like Housefires/All Sons and Daughters/United Pursuit Vibes. Stuff like Bethel/Elevation/Hillsong or pretty much anything else translates better with the XSR Fast/Rock cymbals.
I know that this all about the ride cymbal but, I'm surprised by the sound of the B8X!
Those Ballistic Crashes sound killer. I highly recommend them!
