'Born in the U.S.A.' was written by Bruce Springsteen in 1981, and released in October 1984 from the best-selling album of the same name. The lyrics critique American policy by ironically juxtaposing the hardship faced by Vietnam veterans upon their return home against the glorification of their patriotism. In Bruce's words: "The pride was in the chorus... ...In my songs, the spiritual part, the hope part, is in the choruses. The blues and your daily realities are in the details of the verses."
