  • There are two big spark plugs manufacturers that can be found in today’s car market - Bosch and NGK. While both have pros and cons, there are still some similarities between NGK spark plugs and those from Bosch. So, let's get started.
    NUMBER 1.
    NGK manufacturer
The NGK Company was established in 1936. It is a Japanese company that has produced spark plugs for cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and other vehicles since 1940. NGK was built on three principles: quality, customer service, and product innovation. The company’s roots lie in Japan, first established as Nippon Goulka Kogyo Ltd., which translates to Japanese Fine Ceramics Industry Association Ltd. In 1935, NGK became the first company to introduce laser welding, which is what allowed for the construction of reliable spark plugs made from ceramic.
    NUMBER 2.
    Bosch manufacturer
The Bosch Group was founded by Robert Bosch in 1886. The headquarters are located in Gerlingen, Germany. It is the world’s eighth-largest supplier of automotive components measured by 2011 revenues. Bosch is an industry leader, providing original equipment parts to some of the world’s largest car manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Toyota, etc. Bosch manufactures spark plugs with chromium-plated iridium electrodes, which are one of the most durable ones available on the market today. NGK and Bosch are the market leaders in spark plugs, with a strong presence around the world. They both have a wide range of products that provide excellent performances with their products.
    NUMBER 3.
    Differences
Spark plugs from Bosch provide slightly better ignitability and combustion, caused by improved thermal transfer between electrodes and engine cylinder, and thus more power and better fuel economy. The prices of spark plugs from both NGK and Bosch are very close, but, as an advantage, Bosch has patented double-electrode technology and high-quality materials that provide excellent performance and durability for the spark plugs. A distinctive feature of Bosch spark plugs is that their central electrode is made of copper and coated with an alloy of chromium and nickel. It protects the surface from corrosion, makes it resistant to high temperatures, and also increases the service life. In other spark plugs products from Bosch the center electrode is made of alloy steel with nickel plating.
    NUMBER 4.
    Conclusion
NGK makes great replacement spark plugs for your car. They are some of the best quality you can find on the market today. Their spark plugs have better starting in colder weather conditions, longer lifespan, and high durability. Also, NGK provides OEM spark plugs for a lot of car manufacturers. Bosch also has a long lifespan, and excellent performance in colder weather conditions, plus a superior design that provides better ignitability and combustion, which results in increased power and fuel economy.

i did my first motor swap in 1979 and have been a 'car guy' since before that.....became an A&P mechanic in 1983 and I have modified every vehicle I have ever owned.....some just a little, some extravagantly.
I dont use Bosch plugs unless there is no other choice while I wait for the NGK or Denso plugs to arrive.
Have had great service from both NGK and Denso

Good to hear! Got a Stage 1 GTI Clubsport & wanted to go Bosh for the double platina. But realized NGK wod probably better fit a tuned engine.

NGK introduced "laser welding" in 1936? Lasers weren't invented until the 1960s.

Twenty years ago I had a 2002 Impreza that had a preignition issue when I floored it, so I ran premium gas to get rid of this issue. I then changed out the oem Champion plugs for a Bosch multi tip model and I could go back to regular gas with no issues when I floored it. Bosch is usually my first choice, but these days I'd go to a real parts store to make sure they aren't some China knock offs.

What is your opinion of AC Delco iridium spark plugs versus champion?

    • @user-Dr.
      @user-Dr. Před 9 měsíci +1

@@MrRGiller We used AC Delco forever, nobody that knew engines used anything different, never tried Champions, thought they were just for lawn mowers and dirt bikes, we always threw the NGK's away and put in Champion gold for dirt bikes, about 25 or more years ago GM quit making the spark plugs and outsourced them to NGK, we started to have problems with the AC,s, like falling apart and pieces getting into the combustion area gouging the cylinder walls, the things NGK does, so we did a little research and found them to be NGK, in my opinion they are not good plugs, we've been using Champions for a long time now, I actually have the platinum's in all of my stuff and I'm very happy with them.

i've read for japanese cars. but i have a 2003 mercedes coupe, and one of my bosch spark plugs were fried. albeit, i don't know if they had ever been replaced on my car (74,000 miles, and i bought it with 49,000). but then inhave been reading on mercedes forums and other reviews of the ngk iridium saying they are better. Furthermore, I noticed no noticeble difference after changing the 4 bosch spark plugs with new ones, even when one was fried. next time i'll definitely try ngk

Agreed. I had a 1999 Olds Alero 2.4 liter that misfired like crazy on Bosch. I replaced them with Autolite and the problem went away. I went to Autozone after that for the next set. The counter person had the same issue on Grand Am with the same engine. I have skipped Bosch after that. I wont risk it.
