Dale is wonderful! I participated in a workshop of his at the Community Arts Center. He thoughtfully demonstrated his technique of encaustic painting and shared his wealth of knowledge. It was an honor to learn from him.
I just learned about encaustic painting. I wonder what some of the great fresco painters would make of it. I love your final result. There is something enchanting about the original building with the layers of paints through the years. Then your painting captures it, and more. Thank you!!!
Hi I am an artist have studied oil painting for years and never got in to encaustic my enjoyment in watching you layer .I have just started in this and thank god for the fact I don't have to wait between layering thank you for posting the videos …
This video was so refreshing! At last..an artist who uses a technique to enhance his art instead of the usual crafters who think that mastering technique is art!!
This is so inspirational for a student like myself. At first Encaustic painting seemed to be mushy colors and undefined shapes (which is cool if that's what you're going for), but this video has drawn me to this style so much. I love the architecture and the colors that blend together. Thank you very much!
Thank you I needed this. Now I know I'm switching. I had been using cold wax and oil but the long drying times I can't stand but I do like the textures etc. I had been doing acrylic but I hate the dullness this seems the way to go. I love the instant dry feature but with the ability to keep working it as long as I want by heating it up.
Wonderful information and so exciting to see someone who knows how to use encaustic. There is little information out there on processes and techniques by encaustic professionals. Thanks for making this video.
Absolutely the best demo of technique and apparatuses (the air exchanger) since I am a survivor of cancer in my brain and spine, I have put off returning to my beloved wax. This knowledge could be a life saver! Thanks for sharing your talent.
I am ready to go. Thanks for the great video. I have been collecting pictures of doors and buildings from all over the world. I am glad to have seen your video. It is very inspiring.
Wonderful demo, thank you very much. It was one thing I don't catch, how you mix with oil painting. You are very generous to share your experience. Michele Z
Beautiful work. I love the depth of the texture in your architectural pieces. Darlene Anderson turned me on to your work and I do love it. It made me smile to hear you are a fellow RIT alumni. I hope to see more of your work.
how their going to turn out? well they are amazing. 3 years of encaustic and i have never seen anyone actually paint a picture. watching the brush go from wax to surface mine dries! i don't get a chance to put the heat to it. i would love a class with you!!!!!! i am not a professional..just someone who loves encaustic ...i am in awe!!! judy
This was wonderful to see and very informative. I am currently attempting to restore a friend's mother's encaustic painting that over the years (nearly 50) has cracked and the actual paint/wax has begun to break. Any suggestion you might have to offer I'd certainly appreciate. There is very little available about how to bring these beautiful paintings back from the brink.
Best tip and the only one warning about it......Never heat turpentine...if you use oil paint with en-caustics..never mix.....with turpentine and heat........
I haven't ever seen representative painting with this medium and I'm fascinated. Almost don't with my studio and want to leave a corner to do this.. this was lovely. What type of easel are you ?using
I'm just now learning about this medium and it's absolutely beautiful! Can I ask where you get your pigments? And what are some safety precautions that should be taken with these pigments? Thanks a ton for the video it was very informative!
Tina, my name is John Thornton and I made this movie about Dale. I am working on a longer one that this demo will be a part of. Anyway, the best way to contact Dale with your questions is through his website: dalerobertsencaustic.com
I am also trying to find one and would like to know if you were able to locate one and if she thinks it does the job. In my other studio the air filter I have goes through the wall but in my house I would rather not do that again so am very interested in this one that Dale uses. I would appreciate any info you may have gotten.
A friend of mine on Twitch was showing off an encaustic painting he did of a rather dapper frog. I've become enamored with encaustics, but in the same hand it makes me extremely sad to see how limited they are used. I'm not a huge fan of abstracts as I personally do not see the same weight of skill put into them as I do a realist piece, or even Impressionism. It's nice to see it used in a manner which is so much more in lines with it's roots.
I’m a beginning painter and I really like the texture that this type of painting has, but I don’t think I’m at the skill level of doing this type of painting, do you have any recommendations of how to get the similar type of texture or style in other medias
I am 80 years old and love paaint ing. With my wife. We are trying this!!! ::)))... I am 80 years old. My grandson hasn’t seen our new house we moved in 3 years ago when I was 77 years old. Haafd f d
I thought so. There are little mixed packs of encaustic blocks or kits for purchase with a variety of items. The kits never have enough of the plain clear, i use for the background, i just purchase a bigger block to accommodate my needs.
Is 'terra cotta' the description you're searching for when describing the colour of bricks? Lol. Yeah. Really enmeshed in the building trade there. When you don't know the name of bricks. You usa people crack me up, with your poor education levels.
Your technique is very interesting, master. Personally I am carrying out tests on walls, and the use of turpentine gives me good results. After polishing, I give a coat of clarified varnish. @paezspont
I am 70 years old and started painting two years ago and I love it. When I grow up, I will try my hands on encaustic painting!
It is so amazing to see your comment .. you inspired me
@@maha_4018 Thanks Maha.
That's awesome! I want to know if you enjoy encaustics! I think it's super relaxing

I have never heard of this before, and you explained the medium along with your process very well. Thank you!
this need so much more appreciation
you are simply a master of encaustics!! Fantastic work!!
Excellent! Thank you for sharing!

I just purchased an original Encaustic painting by Dorothy Masom directly from her. It was a pleasure to meet her in person. I love her work!
This video was so refreshing! At last..an artist who uses a technique to enhance his art instead of the usual crafters who think that mastering technique is art!!
great explanation - very usefull and interesting - Thanks a lot !

Thanks Anna!
Best film about encaustic painting that I’ve seen, thank you.
Thanks!
Absolutely the best demo of technique and apparatuses (the air exchanger) since I am a survivor of cancer in my brain and spine, I have put off returning to my beloved wax. This knowledge could be a life saver! Thanks for sharing your talent.
Excellent demo of your advanced techniques. Thanks!
this is absolutely stunning
Amazing definitely will try!
Aaaawww really beautiful!
Great texture like the cools and warms and how they appear out of nowhere. Nice work!
I am ready to go. Thanks for the great video. I have been collecting pictures of doors and buildings from all over the world. I am glad to have seen your video. It is very inspiring.
I really like your approach to painting with wax and pigment.
BEAUTIFUL work, and glorious technique!
Thank you for sharing that with us.
You educated me!!!!
Thank you for the lesson.I’ve always wanted to experiment. I watched someone else and it was a muddy mess. Thank you for using color as well.
Wow, that was fascinating. What a beautiful art piece. ❤
Wow! What an amazing work! Thank you for sharing.
A superb presentation and beautiful finished work. Thanks for the explanation.
WOW!!!!!! I LOVE IT!
Thank you John. Inspiring.
I loved this video! His workshop is so amazing and that technique absolutely unique!
Great demo, great work
what an awesome video, some great editing!
I Love painting but have yet to use encaustic and always been curious.
Wow so awesome
Wonderful demo.
I've never heard of this before! Wow!!!
Awesome painting and very informative video. Looks like a wonderful technique. 🎨
Gorgeous!!
Wow! Fantastic. Never seen this done before would love to try it. Your work is brilliant.
Awesome work
MIND. BLOWN!
Amazing what some can do with such a medium. The "studies" were worthy works of art in themselves.
Very cool, it would be fun to try.
If you do, PLEASE be careful. It is a potentially very dangerous medium!
thanks
Thoroughly inspiring. Thank you!
Wow that is so nice and interesting thank you for sharing your knowledge and studio with us! Subscribed forever!!
Wonderful demo, thank you very much. It was one thing I don't catch, how you mix with oil painting. You are very generous to share your experience.

I don't think he recommends that and it can be VERY DANGEROUS!
You can use oil paint, I believe at no more than a 50/50 oil paint to wax. But don’t use turpentine, or any mineral spirits at all.
Fabulous 🙂🤗
Beautiful work. I love the depth of the texture in your architectural pieces. Darlene Anderson turned me on to your work and I do love it. It made me smile to hear you are a fellow RIT alumni. I hope to see more of your work.
Very beautiful 🤩
very interesting! great use of heat gun to mix encaustic pigments.
Incredible!
That’s wild , I love the idea , sounds dangerous ???
stunning!
Fascinating, Dale!
Scratching it away seems so cathartic!
Fabulous.
Really interesting
little did I know for my thesis year ive been encaustic painting!!

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous! Will you please tell me the name of the air exchanger you are using? I would like to get one. Thank you!
Would you be so kind as to provide the make and model of your air exchanger? Thanks
Extremely informative, thank you. I'm curious, how compatible are encaustic and oil paints? Can one create a hybrid painting using both media?
What's the special gesso you use? Fantastic painting, great texture

hello John, I am interested in knowing how to prepare my canvas for encaustic painting. I notice there is a wooden board on the back of the stretcher?
Sorry Vaughn, I am not the expert, just the guy who made the video. Try contacting Dale at his website: www.dalerobertsencaustic.com
Great video, beautiful work!
That tilting easel - do you make it yourself? I would love some info about it!

Where did you get the Air Exchanger you have in your Painting Demo? My wife needs one for her painting studio
I am also trying to find one and would like to know if you were able to locate one and if she thinks it does the job. wowwww
hello! anchio I do work Encaustic.
what is the longevity of wax? Will it eventually become brittle and later to dust? Is there a way to protect it for hundreds of years?
Can we use wax crayons
Beautiful work, but too risky in toxicity for me. I think I’d go for the safer methods of using wax color blocks like R&F.
Çok güzel paylaşım olmuş bende beklerim kanalıma ☕🎁👍🌺🙋🏼♀️🔔
