    According to Peter Kay’s book The Exeter to Newton Abbot Railway the last of the land acquired for the deviations was sold off by BR in 1985.

    Fascinating to think what might have been! All the civil engineering to fulfil such a proposal would cost billions today and so is highly unlikely to ever happen. For a diversionary route, it would be wiser to reconnect Bere Alston with Tavistock and then on to Okehampton
