Hey buddy. If you can play well with a pick, then feel free to use only yr fingers. However, if your pick playing is not developed, give it some practice time too so that it doesnt get ignored

Hi there ! , according to me there is no sich reason behind wearing a ring to enhance the strumming through thumb, in fact he is not wearing the ring in this video abd still sound of the guitar is coming pretty good. He might be wearing a ring in other videos for his personal reasons.
If we also look carefully at strumming style, we would notice that the ring won't hit the strings when one would play a guitar, its only the upper part of the thumb which is hitting strings.
Well thats all, sorry for such a long reply😂, hope this would have helped you.
