Saw him play this live a few weeks ago. Other than having it mounted on a stand rather than holding it, it was pretty much just like the video.

I speak to a girl from Spain who works for Steve Vai, and I asked her what the weight of the Hydra guitar is, since a couple of months ago Steve used it live, but on a guitar stand, and she told me that the Hydra weighs the weight of a car engine, but thanks to movie magic, you can see Steve holding it in the video, and it makes sense, because if you look closely... where is the strap on the guitar in the video? 👀

Steve Vai is one of the few men in the world who is considered a GOD of the guitar and it is not for less, the way of playing is inhuman, it is beyond comprehension. The Hydra is not a musical instrument, it is rather a machine that only he is worthy of playing, just like Thor's fucking hammer only he is worth touching, so is Steve Vai's Hydra.
The guitar itself weighs 75 pounds and has a special belt type strap that attaches in tge middle on the back right at around the belt buckle area.
