Really well done video. I use the airport weekly and cannot wait. I am especially excited to travel with my 7 year old son that has autism and other special needs. The playground, sensory room and large sized changing tables will truly improve our flying experience out of KCI! Thank you for incorporating those key items that most people will never think about nor need. For those of us that do need them it truly is a blessing!
I'm so happy to see that the medalians were salvaged and reinstalled in the new terminal. Flying back into KC, I always looked forward to seeing them because they are unique
So glad to see KC put some well deserved love and money into their airports well in advance for the World Cup, NFL Draft, and other big events that we have the opportunity to host.
If there is some money they need to have train trucks from there to downtown stadium for those who will be coming for games and have lodges along the way for accommodations.
I got to see this yesterday during an Open House event. So impressive! One thing that probably should have been included in the video was the parking garage, which has red/green lights in every aisle that help you find open parking spaces VERY quickly. You can get a small glimpse of them if you look across the road starting at 11:08.
Wow! I remember when the old terminals first opened. We were all so proud as they were state of the art. Over time, KCI has drifted to the bottom of the barrel, but now we’re back on top. Nice to see all of the artwork as well. Would like to have a little more information about parking. Great video presentation by the way.
I still like the older ones. I voted no on this. Well see how well it works. TWA pushed for the last one then bitched about it. I remember going in just to watch airplane take off load and land. Now if you close to the airport the cops pull you over.
It is an AMAZING success 🙌! I was able to attend the open house and all of my expectations were so far exceeded! I love all of the local shops and restaurants, the art installations, and the thoughtfulness to all travelers. THIS is exactly the perfect airport for Kansas City 👏 Now I just have to book a trip so I can show up 5 hours early just so I can shop and eat ! Lol
Fond memories of the original KCI. But this new KCI, WOW!! Beautiful 🤩 We have 3 trips coming up this spring and summer. Can’t wait to experience it first hand. So proud to call this our hometown airport! ✈️
Are you taking about the downtown airport? The first time I flew there all I see is water, then as we turn at the end of the runway there's the river again. Take offs were very aggressive so that you made it over the buildings.
As a transplant from Ohio of almost 22 years, I can't tell you how excited I am for this new airport. I never cared for the old one. This gives locals something to be proud of, and such a good impression of Kansas City for first-time visitors. It just looks world-class like the DIA or LAS.
Thank you so much for the virtual tour for people who were unable to make it. I am from Salt Lake City and thank you for making the concourse walk between A and B less than a half a mile LOL. But it is a really beautiful airport and you and Kansas Citians should all be VERY proud of what they have. I look forward to flying into it soon. I would hope that you guys make like a little spotters plaza somewhere on the airport property so that aviation enthusiasts have a place to photograph and take video of their favorite airplanes arriving and taking off. Great job.
This new airport is awesome. The old airport was way past its prime. The designers really went first class in giving our community an airport we can be proud of and which will enhance the travel experience of all who fly through KC.
As a Kansas Citian, I can tell you this is the very thing we have all been waiting for at MCI. No longer will people describe our airport terminals as "old, short of space, or dirty." Travelers will look at the new terminal and say "Wow! This airport represents the people of Kansas City and at the same time is a convenience for all who come here!" I have been flying at MCI ever since I was a baby, and seeing Terminals B and C become history is quite sentimental, however, I am excited about the New Terminal and everything it has to offer! I'm sure that MCI's upgrade will have international carriers see what has changed there and will soon bring opportunities for international travel! Kansas City has grown, and so has MCI!
So I was stuck in traffic for 30 minutes last night. That's never happened before the back up went beyond bern street at midnight. They took what was probably the most efficient drop off for an airport. I've ever been in and turned it into a cluster.
@@FtheATFandISR The main reason for this is because people are not parking in the cell phone lots and instead are parking on the curbside while waiting. The airport is also working to open two lanes for cars circling around.
WOW!! I never thought I'd be this excited for an airport! ♥The amount of thought and design that was put into this new terminal is incredible, from the beautiful artwork to the ease of finding a restroom to the inclusivity. 👏BRAVO KCI! 👏Can't wait for our next trip! 🎉
Wow! As a former 30 year resident of Kansas City and a 20 year former employee at the airport I say congratulations and it’s about time. The old airport was a worn down bad impression of the city. It was literally falling apart. I get it, it may not be quite as convenient as being dropped off at the curb and being in your gate in five minutes. I used to do that too. But that was then and this is now. Welcome to now.
I fly out of MCI for work 30-40 times a year. I am so excited for the new terminal…in addition to being beautiful, it appears much more efficient than the old terminals. I can’t wait to continue ir my travels out of the new terminal!
Good thing this got done before the World Cup. So many friends from out of town used to fly through KC...every time they always said how crappy our airport was. This is a huge improvement. This new terminal gives me slight vibes of ABIA in Austin. Very efficient layout.
On one of my early visits to see your mom & dad when you and Bubba were so very young, your dad loaded us into his car to stand next to the field and watch take-offs and landings at the KC airport. The new terminal looks to be something he would so appreciate. When you're there, say a little prayer to thank God for such great parents and a beautiful new airport. Next time (whenever) I go to or through KC, I really want to give it a visit. Maybe we'll see it together. (Blessings and lots of love, Laura!)
Enjoyed meeting you at the open house yesterday Justin. This new airport is really exceptionally well done. Look forward to taking our upcoming flight from the new airport!
Thank you for this video! I'm using the new airport for the first time this week and this alleviates some anxiety about finding where I need to go. Kudos!
I worked at this airport as a TSA agent before it changed from old to new. Wow, I am impressed at all the thought that went into making it worthy of the word international. Bet the TSA agents are having to go thru a lot of orientation and new training to accomodate the new design at the check points. Glad I'm retired. Great vid.
what a beautiful terminal. i used to fly in and out of the old terminals frequently in the 80's and 90's...unfortunately i don't have a reason to use the airport anymore. maybe i'll have to find one!!!
I am so going to miss the old KCI, as it was my home airport since I took my first trip in 2010, but I'm happy to see that a new generation will be getting a much better experience, and will make the same memories I did way back when. ✈♥
Very nice layout. Clearly a lot of thought went into this design. The old airport was so limited that I avoided flying there. The new terminal changes that. Now I cannot wait to see the new facility.
I'm not going to knock super hard on the new airport...the outside shell still leaves me unimpressed. However, definitely a nice upgrade from where we were before. The art pieces are fitting, the different restaurant options, the medallions from the old airport, THE PARKING GARAGE!!!! This new gem is a perfect addition for my flight in March
The open house event was really good. The airport is a great improvement and KC should be proud! One thing I notice is no seating in the baggage claim areas. Other cities seem to have this and I know many travelers would like/need to have this amenity. Traveling can be so exhausting and I know that at the end of the tour, my groups ended up sitting on window ledges. A few banks of sling chairs would be nice. Thanks for this new airport that better showcases the city we are so proud of! (We also saw that there were not hooks inside stalls in baggage claim area restrooms)
I moved away from KC in the 80s, but have returned dozens of times to see my folks. Last time I was in was before Covid and construction was in its earlier stages. I'll be back this year and will probably be stunned by this. While the new airport is pretty and all that, the old airport has a lot of memories of my parents waving to me from behind the glass outside the gates when I arrived, and I've got lots of pictures of us sitting in those streetside window seats before my family and I went through security to leave. That being said, the old airport was a bad idea from end to end, and hopefully this more typical one will make everybody happy. But for those of us with only a few KC visits left in our lives, "You can never really go back home again" does become truer and truer. An age has passed!
Excellent amenities. Moving sidewalks are a great help. I like the art. You could also celebrate your Superbowl champs. Not sure why glass jet bridges are a benefit. But the drop off and pickup looks user friendly. All the best to KCIA
The things happening in Kansas City these days are blowing my mind. I've always loved KC, but the twelve-year-old version of me would never believe these things are possible.

If the new terminals help to bring travelers to KC, with KC as their destination, or more business and money to KC, with the local leaders appropriately using and not wasting the money then I will be happy to change my mind.
So much for waiting in a cramped 30 x 100 foot space with 200 people when your flight is delayed for 3 hours and there's only one tiny food stand. I'm so happy for this new airport. No more going out of security and re-entering security if your connecting flight is in another terminal, it's all under the same roof!
Johnson County, Kansas is a great area! Just 30 min from downtown KC. Clean and safe with kind people and lots of amenities. Public school systems in JC are great as well.

Certainly a major upgrade for what's becoming a more important and focal city for the US. The one thing I'm disappointed about is that I'll miss the opening by 1 day. Still, last day in the old terminal on Feb 27th will still be special. Makes me wonder, though, why open the new facility on a Tuesday and not Monday?
Tuesday is probably one of the days with the least amount of traffic, making it easier to move the last of the equipment over to the new terminal and get it open while minimizing potential issues.
