So much hidden history. Also great to have Deb in a video giving her own perspective.

At the start of your video, in Atholl Terrace, on the side of the road at the bottom of the cliffs, There is (or was) a doorway to a tunnel, ending in a series of spiral staircases going right up to the top of the cliff. At the time I climbed this, it came out in a ramshackle old shed inside the castle outer perimeter wall.
This might be worth doing a video about. My visit was back around 1968. Possibly the portal is now sealed shut. Interestingly, laying in the grass, a few yards from the portal were a couple of large metal things that appeared to be aircraft drop tanks.

In all the years I lived in Dover, I never took that path from Athol Terrace up to the cliffs. It's also strange to think that the Jubilee Way flyover that leads down to the docks once extended out over the sea before looping back. It just shows how much land has been reclaimed to expand the docks.

Mr Stead - The 'A' in a circle is an old symbol, most famously appropriated by the Punk movement of 1976-77. (which I was a big fan of. My parents... Not so much. 🤔😂😂😂) It stands, simply, for 'Anarchy'. It's still popular with punks, even nowadays. And why not? 👍
Your 'Crop Circle' at 28:43, is most probably a ring of mushrooms, most likely 'Fairy Ring' mushrooms - they take nutrients from the grass, which makes it darken in colour. The dark ring will remain, even if the grass is cut.
Nice video of a beautiful day. Thank you.

  • @theviewfromthepanopticon1852

The drone looked like a matrice from DJI..which is a UAS and they are used by the authorities so I suspect customs as over the dock area

Dover is top! I'm Manchester born but served 8 years half of that was Connaught brks, best times of my life I miss it so much one day I'll spend couple week down there, if it was not for sending us (3Para) to Colly I would done my full 22 years, just watching this now, btw your lucky guy shes v nice!!! I no a good one wen I see one ha you must have something then lmfao!
It's a pitty you cant go in Connaught brks lol I use to like going for a walk at the Bowl in Dover cliffs and that light house or radar thing on the top the countryside fields go for miles that bit I use to spend most my time watch the sun set b4 I take that long walk back, that hill is extremely steep, my mate seen a roman soldier once he shit it big time! Lol love your history knowledge goes well with the video!
The Paras in the 80s early 90s use to jump off Dover cliffs with parachutes, and they opened up nobody died, nobody knew about that btw, some history. We use to goto folstone and I remember the nearest pub to France that sold HOEGARTEN beer tasted amazing I still have some the big heavy pint pots I brought back lol the beach was full of pebbles tho lol

Brilliant as always. The guy living on the cliffs near the coastguard cottages in the 90's was Polish - Vladimir - and had walked all the way from Poland to Britain at the end of the war, as many did. An interesting guy to talk to, plenty of stories and had worked all over the place doing all kinds of things. He kept a tidy little outpost there and its sad to read how he ended.

You're not really allowed to metal detect on national trust areas, due to unexploded bombs. I worked with an old guy who tried it up the western heights gun emplacements, the whole thing is on camera surveillance (even the dogging car park and the gay cruising area! 😂) he got a tap on the shoulder and told to stop detecting.

Well it's nice to see your better half. Nothing against Chris but Debbie is much more pleasing to the eye well unless your into that kind of thing. If so good on you. That was really interesting. I'm surprised that you didn't fall and bust your ass trying to film and read and walk at the same time next to that narrow road. I can't chew gum and walk at the same time. Just kidding. Thanks for the great video.
