- Video #270 - A journey back to memories! A journey from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Thrissur by the 16331 Mumbai CSMT - Thiruvananthapuram Central Weekly Express in AC 3-Tier. This train operates only once in a week, and it is presently the ONLY train from Mumbai CSMT to Kerala (Note - there are trains from Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus).
This train operates on the "conventional" route - it goes via Pune, Solapur, Wadi, Raichur, Guntakal, Dharmavaram, Krishnarajapuram, Bangarpet, Salem. Coimbatore. This train was hauled by a WAP7 from Pune Shed.

The Wadi cement plant is not just "a cement plant", but a part of our country's history. It is among one of India's largest, and is in fact India's first cement plant.
Gunthkal was also big MG DLS which catered YDM-4 for SCR MG network. I remember the lot of GTL YDM in early 1988 in Hubli to Bangalore and Secunderabad area.
There were less GOC YDM in this Karnataka area which was under SR at that time.
I'm a ardent fan of your rail videos. I like the way the detailing you give about the every route,importance of places, adjoining routes , any relevant info about the station,train,railway technical terms,etc. Kudos to your work. Good job. So much efforts you've taken to make these videos. Also,so much you're spending for your rail travel. That's great. I enjoy a lot.
MALM is well connected to Mantralayam by shared autos ( tata Ace), cabs. In the bygone era (till mid 2000s), there used to be an APSRTC bus for every 1 or 2 trains arrival/departure. While I was there last year, I just spotted one single bus. The autos/shared cabs are convenient.
Still I believe that Konkan Railway Route to TVC is much scenic & beautiful than this old traditional route of olden days trains, though in KR route we don't see Telangana,AP & Tamilnadu.

Jayanti Janatha a nostalgic name for malayali. The train which was the means to Middle East before CIAL kochi
This train was notorious for RPF and state police to checking bags of gulf malayalees on board the journey to Cape. As they harassed the passenger to loot some money besides Bombay customs.The passengers where identified by the flight tag on their baggage.
Lot of people traveled on this Jayanti because to save money from domestic flights to kochi or trivandrum.
For SR Jayanti is only a Cape -VT exp.
Interestingly if I am correct 2000 the Karjat announcement of this train was Jayanti Janatha only in English Marathi and Hindi.
C R liked to call it Jayanthi Jantha only on those days.
And ironically malayalam TV news channels also call her Jayanti Janatha and other train Island exp.
This train follows the same route from pune to Guntakal as of pune Kanyakumari express
Yes only difference is Pune-Kanyakumari Express goes via Guntakal Katpadi,Salem,Kottayam and Cst-Trivandrum Exp goes via Guntakal, Bangalore (Krishnarajapuram) & Alleppey that's the difference..This is only weekly Train that gives good connectivity between Bangalore & Trivandrum....i.e,16331/CST-TVC Exp

Holy shit... I got my wish fulfilled. A LONG YATRA when I needed one. And to kick things off from the Big Daddy CST(csmt) really got me Up and running indeed on an otherwise boring Sunday. Though a Colonial heritage, CST has Always and Forever been the Heart and Soul of Bombay. A truly Iconic and Legendary UNESCO site. Truly disgusting and a Monumental shame that I still haven't visited this beauty in person till date. Many thanks bud

This train 16331 actually takes the route of the erstwhile LTT-MAQ & CHTS Netravati Exp/ Dadar-CHTS Express as it used to go via KJM.
I travelled on this train a couple of months back.
The train is almost always delayed until WADI, and the delay is maintained ahead in SCR and SWR territory.
WADI-GTL section is fit for 130 KMPH operations but then the trains get routinely delayed even though the section is FEDL. If you don't wanna have food from pantry, then you need to pick up everything godamn thing from WADI as nothing will be available at any stations until GTL
The GTL -KLU retains almost all of the MG era curves, and is with a lower MPS. However the region is absolutely barren and it's difficult to find anyone here.

There is different clientele for this train. Not every train is intended only for end to end pax
Already There are 3 trains running Via Konkan Region From Mumbai To Trivandrum Central/Kochuveli
Also this train 16331/Cst-Tvc Exp intention is to give connectivity between Mumbai & Bangalore and Then to Trivandrum, This will be an alternative train for Those who want to go Trivandrum from Banglore and vice Versa From Mumbai to Banglore
yes if they reroute via Pune, Belgaum,Hubli, Bangalore Instead of Solapur, Raichur, Guntakal, Bangalore Then They can Save Time Alot Much and Kilometres.

better to avoid showing usual railway food . Everyone knows its the worst food available in India. Infact the food is not blending with a train video unless its a dining car with service. If any tips to get good food in any particular stations or anything like that (like you showed the idli from wadi), may be helpful.
The food served on the train is an integral part of the journey experience. I do not expect fine dining on a train. There are plenty of trains that serve fabulous food. Like it or not, food will always be featured in my videos.
