  • A look around what's left of the old stations along this line. Open between 1873 and 1935, the Glyn Valley Tramway served a number of villages and quarries between Wrexham and Oswestry providing a link to the mainline at Chirk.
Today the former station at Glyn Ceiriog is now a museum to the line, while just the waiting rooms at Dolywern and Pontfadog remain. Castle Mill and Pontfaen have been swept away for road widening while Chirk Station is now being rebuilt as there are plans to reopen part of the link as a heritage railway.

I'm in the US and old, so I'll never get there, but it's pretty exciting to see what's happening!

There is quite a bit going on here. Two groups working at either end of this former 5 mile long line. One has turned a former station into a museum and while at the other end the other group is currently rebuilding the line with the hope of running trains in the future. Making good progress and definitely one to watch

I've been around many boilers, and that one looks to be in pretty good condition from the outside. Is it original or recent? Is it planned to build a loco around it?

I'm not sure if they have plans for it. This is a small museum with one diesel loco at the moment. There is a separate group rebuilding another part of the old line as a heritage railway as well

@@RWHTrains I get the impression that the widened road is a problem for connecting them, but it would be nice.

@SteamCrane yes sections of the railway line used to run on the road like a tramway and where it didn't the trackbed has been used to widen the road
