Basically the USA took the Bread/Meat food from each country like pizza or Hamburger or Hot Dog etc. USA seems to love eating meat in bread with cheese :)

Innovation is at the Heart of the Midlands, including the invention of the Hot Dog!
Hot Dogs and Derby-born Harry M. Stevens
Nothing typifies the USA more than a hot dog stand at a baseball game, but the hot dog was not an American idea. Derby-born Harry M. Stevens turned a hot sausage into a million-dollar fortune and gave the world the hot dog. Harry is also accredited with designing the baseball scorecard (still used to this day), and with pioneering the drinking of soda through a straw. Harry’s major claim to fame is nevertheless the way in which his name is now synonymous with the hot dog.

Most Americans pronounce it correctly. Some people just don't know and sometimes there are slip-ups as the word can be pronounced "jyro" when referring to a gyroscope

The HotDog was invented 1847 in Frankfurt from Johann Georg Hehner so loooong time before Mr. Handwerker. My god i get so tired of 'Mericans that claim to be the inventor of everything that they like. The 'mericans didn't invent Pizza or Hamburger, not French Fries and also not the HotDogs. What ia coming next? Americans think that they invented beer, pasta and sushi?
