- On April 20, 1963, President John F. Kennedy delivered the culminating speech of the University's centennial celebration.
After nine months of lobbying by Boston business leaders and other Massachusetts allies, notably Senator Edward Kennedy and Representative Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr., '36, President John F. Kennedy arrived on the Heights on April 20, 1963, to address the University's Centennial Convocation, an assembly that capped five weeks of lectures, performances, panel discussions, and receptions. University President Michael P. Walsh, SJ, introduced Kennedy to an Alumni Stadium audience of 30,000 that included elected officials, church leaders, and representatives from 294 colleges and universities. Harvard president Nathan Pusey, Georgetown president Edward B. Bunn, SJ, and British economist Barbara Ward Jackson were present to receive honorary degrees. (Kennedy was given his honorary degree in 1956 when, as a senator, he delivered the Commencement address.) Despite the pageantry, the scene had an informality and intimacy that are unthinkable today-with two students scrambling on the bleachers behind Kennedy to find a seat among the well-dressed (at 40 seconds) and Kennedy chuckling at his joke about his Boston accent. Following the speech, Charles F. Donovan, SJ, '33, founding dean of the School of Education, introduced the University's alma mater.
this man saved Americas face on the international stage!
America was never the same after JFK. But his vision and dream lives on, because I believe that there is hope for a better tomorrow. Indeed, John F. Kennedy believed in that better tomorrow.
He was the last good democrat
That's when the start of the end began.
No it wasn’t, everybody stayed as useless sacks of air and water, who just shut up, take orders, and don’t ask questions

We have to WORK at achieving that goal to a better life.
This President could deliver the most eloquent speeches. The only other President that i've seen in our time was Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Kennedy set the bar on how US Presidents presented themselves and represented America abroad. We can only remember him for what he was up until that time and only image what could have been. A life cut to short.
Very few Presidents spoke so eloquently and knew how to articulate his message. A few others that I can think of were definitely Lincoln, Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson.
Back when presidents delivered intelligent speeches

The last time there was a worthwhile wellspoken democrat president. Not a preacher, not a moron, but a wellspoken man!
His policies were politically aligned with the republican and labor movements ironically, and not democrat hence his consistent clashing with his own staff. Never has been a such thing as decent democrat

President Kennedy saved my life twice. I am a veteran of the Bay of Pigs imperialist invasion of Cuba in 1961. JFK negotiated an end to that war. The result was that the veterans from BoP became the secret army that ambushed Kennedy in Dallas, from CIA agent GHW Bush to CIA Frank Sturgis, CIA agent Dorothy Hunt, Manual Artime to EH Hunt, the highly trained CIA sniper who shot JFK. Second, I had orders to Vietnam in Aug. 1963 and was being trained to be a member of a team of 3-man snipers, to kill villege leaders in Vietnam. JFK ended the Vietnam war when he issued NSM #263 in Oct. 1963. That is why Kennedy was executed by the US State Department.
@@user-jz8ny6qo6v I learnt about the bay of bigs and Cuba yesterday in class, that’s so cool!
Wow. That was intense
The tone of his speeches is always forward looking. Always ( to me anyways) the underlying thought of most of his speeches is " Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country".
Amen!
His speeches on war and government over reach were a different tone. More ominous, honest that he recognized a threat. More true now than ever
Words of great inspiration to every individual as well as every private or gubernatorial institution that follows it's dreams to serve and get better achievement in life

- every comment on videos like this.
Back then they always showed US the ppl in the audience.
But today no. They do not show Trumps audience. Why is that.
I see Trump's audience in a lot of videos of him speaking.
The news media do not want the public to see how few of Biden's rallies have any numbers of people coming to see him. MSM is very corrupt and way more political than in those days. Liberals or you might say democrats were much more decent people as was the media towards opposing political parties. Things in society were in a much tighter spread. It was ok to be a democrat or a republican. Today if you are a republican, you are an enemy of the MSM and they will lie, cheat, twist anything they have to to keep the public off balance.
@@gln238 Oh good grief. The news media has always been biased -- both liberal and conservative -- but nobody is hiding the size of Biden's rallies, and frankly, very few people really care about the relative size of the rallies. Trump at least tells it like he see's it...maybe not something people all agree on but nonetheless he is unfiltered and authentic as one can be...truth is he hasn't broke character in over 40 yrs
So when he deliberately downplayed the corona virus so as to not raise alarm, that was telling it how it is? When he made the complete false claim that he only received a million dollars from his father to start his business, was he being authentic? Is Trump's refusal to accept any responsibility for his failings, no matter how minor, and instead deflects blame onto his subordinates supposed to be remaining in character?
Let's cut the fat here, people support Trump because he's fooled them into thinking he's looking out for them, and they don't give two shits what he does in the process or what rule of law he tramples in the process as long as it doesn't negatively affect them.
