Totally! You gotta choose what is most important to you. Squarespace has its place for beginners, but I find myself frustrated by the lack of customization more times than not.
@@Craylor Me too. Having made several sites myself over the years, dating back to 1997, I've tried using Squarespace a couple of times and have given up on it for this very reason. As it happens, for a simple beginner-level blog, I like the look of Wix's UI more than Squarespace but that's just me.
Squarespace is definitely easier for beginners. If you aren't doing anything complicated on your website, that's probably the way to go if you can afford it.

Love your videos Christian. Totally new at creating websites and I am wondering what the difference between managed wordpress hosting specifically and a Squarespace website. I understand shared hosting and that managed wordpress hosting is specifically for wordpress website user but how do it compare to managed wordpress hosting? I've seen videos comparing shared and managed hosting or Squarespace vs. standard hosting but I find nothing explaining the difference between managed wordpress hosting and Squarespace. What would be the best option for starting a blog? Thank you.
Great summary. Can you talk about the comparison with SEO hits for both of these options? I would love to know if Squarespace is good enough or not for a blog poster looking to build an audience.
To be honest, my experience with Squarespace is limited compared to WordPress. If you are doing blogging and want to get traffic via SEO, my gut says to go with WordPress. It's the industry standard for blogging and there are plenty of SEO plugins to choose from that can help you get results. Not to say Squarespace can't do the job too, but it's definitely not as optimized for blogging.
i currently use webflow and its good for me.. i create anything i want. and i host with whatever hosting service i want..its good for people who are techy and people who re just starting off.
How do I change from word press to square space? By the way your videos are frikin awesom easy to understand and straight forward keep up the good work!
Thanks for your support! Unfortunately, there's no easy way to change from WordPress to Squarespace. You will need to start mostly from scratch with the styling and UI. You can import the bones of your WordPress website using the following tutorial: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206543957
Thanks for this information. I have a question: If I want to create a free blog page on Squarespace, it will let me upload content with no limits like Blogger?
My knowledge is limited when it comes to blogging within Squarespace. If your goal is to have a blog and you want an easy interface, I would look into the $4/mo plan on WordPress.com - that might be a good fit for you.
Which website creator is better if I want to own my content and not be shut down for whatever reason? Like Medium, if they go down, your content goes down to. I don't want to depend on another entity to control my content. Any advice?
To an extent, you are dependent on another entity no matter which option you choose. With Squarespace, the dependency is obvious. With WordPress, you are dependent on your web host. The big advantage to WordPress is that you can "pack up your files and leave" to another web host at any time if your web host starts going down hill. With that being said, I trust Squarespace's reliability and there are some larger businesses that rely on Squarespace for their site. I would focus on which website builder has the features you need.
@@Craylor thank you so much for responding! I appreciate you advice. I am not very tech savvy, so I was thinking of hiring someone to.creat a WordPress website for me. Not sure if that is a good idea. Could speed up the process. Thank again for your advice!
Pretty fair MISrepresentation of the "getting started" for WordPress. Nearly all of the top tier (and affordable) hosting sites auto-install it when the hosting is setup.
WordPress for sure. I believe Squarespace requires you to have a higher plan to monetize (or maybe it's Wix). WordPress gives you total control to monetize however you choose.
If you need e-commerce functionality, I would check out Shopify or WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin. If you do not need e-commerce, I would stick to Squarespace for a basic company site.
I would definitely recommend this if you are using WordPress. Visual Composer is my personal favorite, but I like Elementor too. It's still not as "polished" as Squarespace from a drag-and-drop perspective, but it makes things way easier.
Thanks so much for this. I’m looking to move my godaddy site to another host and this has been so helpful. Now can YOU build it for me? Do you build/transfer sites for people?
Hey Maur! Due to my workload, I am not currently accepting new clients. I do recommend wellfound.media for freelance web design. They could help you out, and it's run by a close friend of mine. If you reach out, let them know I sent you!
Check tld-list.com/ to find the cheapest first year and renewal prices for any domain extension. Some extensions like .ai are just expensive, and there's no getting around it. I would go with Porkbun if you need a "cheap" .ai domain, although it's still not cheap.
@@Craylor Thanks .,you just saved me some money and I greatly appreciate it but yeah about the ai domains...overpriced in general. What’s your thoughts on the security of the 2? My Wordpress is offline right now due to construction and as I’m getting more familiar with Wordpress, im not sure how safe my content is from online predators like hackers and such and Was thinking of moving to Squarespace since I feel like there’s more safety on there. What’s your recommendations? Thx u so much for this video!
Squarespace is definitely safer from a hands off perspective. Since it's a proprietary managed website builder, their team handles security and you never have to think about it. WordPress is a huge target for hackers because it powers over 30% of the internet, and since you host it yourself, that means you are responsible for securing it. I've had minimal issues by always installing the WordFence security plugin (free) on my sites, but you definitely have to keep an eye on things.
Christian, I want to write a blog, and I don't want to deal with complicated technical stuff... but I hate the layout of the Squarespace blogs I've seen. Older posts get buried from what I've seen, but I want all my posts to stay easy to find. Can I have a page on a Squarespace site that lists blog posts by topic like the index in a book, and another page that lists them all by date? Or do I have to go with WordPress?
Hi Sean! To be honest, it's been quite a while since I've tested Squarespace, so I'm not sure what the options are for a blog. If your website is primarily a blog, I would HIGHLY recommend using WordPress. Since you don't want to deal with the technical stuff, I think WordPress.com would be a great option. Watch this video - it will clear up a lot of things for you: czcams.com/video/tou8TZVwE0M/video.html
Hi, if I use elementor for WordPress, is it similar to squarespace? Also with squarespace do I need to deal with website optimization, slow loading time etc? Thanks heaps, great video btw!
Elementor or WP Bakery (both similar plugins) are a must have if you're building a WordPress website, but they aren't quite the same as Squarespace. They have a "what you see is what you get" editor as an option, but it can be glitchy and not quite as accurate as Squarespace. I choose to use the "building block" style editor where you drag-and-drop the building blocks, click update, and open the actual page in a new tab to see what it looks like. With Squarespace, you don't need to worry about website optimization or loading times - they handle all this for you in the background. I hope that helps!
The one thing I HATE about WordPress: it runs on PHP. PHP is so archaic. It's clunky and requires entire page navigation for actions. That's the reason that, among other things, that you have to refresh the page to see what changed. It's also why, when you click publish, the entire page refreshes instead of there just being a little activity circle that appears and then disappears (maybe they changed that now, idk). That makes it really really slow, and it makes it impossible to make sites where only part of the page changes without workarounds.
team treehouse took down their python tech degree and posted a PHP tech degree. Deff not as worthless as you think my good sir. I wish AWS lambda functions could run PHP easier. I'm thinking to stick with C#, PowerShell, Dart, PHP, etc.
Yes, there is quite a big difference! POP3 will download the mail to your device and delete it from the mail server. This is the “old fashioned” way of doing things. If you check your email on your phone, the mail will download, delete from the server, and you won’t be able to see it on another device. IMAP is far superior and keeps everything on the mail server, and that gives you the “magic” of accessing your inbox from any device.
You will be able to sell your ebook on Squarespace, but you need the Business plan ($216/year or $26/mo). If you just want to upload a PDF file for people to access for free, you can do that on the Personal plan.
