  • Tony Schumacher hit the sports equivalent of a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth of Game 7 of the World Series being down three with a full count and the bases loaded. Doug Kalitta had narrowly missed a shot to clinch the Top Fuel world title in the semifinals when he lost to Schumacher’s teammate, Melanie Troxel, on a holeshot. To win the title, Schumacher had to not only win but also set the national e.t. record in the final. “The Sarge” did just that with a 4.42-second e.t. that would forever go down in NHRA history as “The Run.”

@@snake5305 No but Prudhomme never called himself "Sarge" or plastered his car with giant Army sergeant stripes.

Why? How is that disgusting? The team was sponsored by the U.S. Army. The Army sent the soldiers to the event for recruitment purposes and for a relaxing fun weekend at the dragstrip. They have the special privilege of being on the starting line where nobody else but the crew gets to be. What are you talkin about?
