I do OMAD and when fasting benefits start to diminish, I do 1 of 2 things: Either I do an extended 2-3 day fast, or I take a break from fasting for about 2-3 days. I find both do an effective job at resetting me and then going back to OMAD the benefits come flying back. I do this at least once a year. I also find having 1-2 cheat meals a week helps to extend those benefits over doing straight fasting + clean eating 24/7. Just my thoughts.

My doctor prescribed blood pressure meds and statins which scared the hell out of me. Shortly after, I came across this movie on You Tube called "Fat Fiction". I decided to make a change because I did not want to fall prey to the meds and get used to relying on them. I am 57 yrs. 5'10 and weighed in at 230 lbs. when I began my keto and intermittent fasting journey. I have lost 13 lbs. in 45 days and my BP is normal again. My plan is to get down to 190 lbs. I never realized how the food I was eating was killing me slowly over time. I was one of those guys you would see in the drive through at all the fast food joints and enjoyed my sugar in almost everything I was eating. I plan to do another blood test soon to see how much has improved without the meds. I understand now that we have been lied to about the food. Eating all kinds of meats, fish, eggs, cheese, and some veggies. No more processed foods, bread, pasta and especially sugar. It's a whole new world our there and I feel great.

@@theroaman8759 Yes, immensely. Fasting eliminates symptoms (rheumatoid arthritis), but unfortunately only for the duration of the fast (apparently this is the case in all research findings on fasting as RA treatment). Once dietary intake resumes, RA symptoms return. If I'm extremely clean in my eating (high-quality animal-based diet), symptoms are quite minimal. But anytime I stray from disciplined/diligent lifestyle (fasting, diet, sleep, stress mgmt, etc), symptoms worsen immediately.
Over time, thankfully the symptoms have very gradually lessened. My long-term hope is that with enough time, this lifestyle will restore my health fully.
Full disclosure: I'm currently on low-dose 500 mg Rituxan infusions every 6 months. Finally off all other drugs (prednisone, methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine).

I do restrict potatoes but I make sure to have about 3 per week, otherwise my muscles start acting up with spasms and cramps. I used to try to take a bunch of supplements to eliminate cramping but they never worked as well as potatoes. Potatoes are good food for potassium, and also one of the most satiating. Air fry them coated in bacon fat and sprinkled with Italian seasoning.

I definitely feel hunger a lot so it's not easy but definitely is automatic at this point. I have a very large appetite so I can still gain weight if I just eat as much as I can. I think it varies by person, for me I just seem to always function best when fasting, but not necessarily in a caloric deficit.

As far as I know, evco has a different fatty acid ratio than mct oil, and will break a fast, because it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier to feed the brain ketones as well as mct does.
Also, coconut oil is a saturated fat that is better consumed in moderation. Personally, I now stick with oils that have healthier fats like olive oil, avocado oil and flaxseed oil. I mainly just use coconut oil for my morning oil pulling for dental hygiene.

But what if the reason one fasting has become easier is because one has successfully switched from being carb adapted, to fat adapted, and when one abstains from eating, their body efficiently switches to using the abundance of fat on their body? And so if one is constantly keeping the body confused by switching all around willy nilly, then they actually never become fat adapted. I went carnivore for the last 2.5 months and recently became fat adapted, and felt like I had a big breakthrough once I had done so because I didn't feel such a slave to my appetite. I feel like Thomas's advice is almost inviting me to purposefully kick myself out of that efficient fat adapation. I'm now officially BEYOND confused.

Our bodies were not designed to be on an IV drip, on some idealized nutrition with barely any cyclical change.
At some point in your journey, you're going to take your body fat too low if you are determined enough. We were not designed to have no fat. To be fat adapted means at some point, you're going to have to eat enough carbs to store some carbs as fat. So relax a bit.

I usually eat Keto OMAD at 2:00 to 3:00 pm and my glucose avarages 110 for the whole day, it is always between 90 and 120, usually never falls below 90!!!
My OMAD meal consists of leafy greens: Broccoli, Spinach, mushrooms, Arugula; Lean Meat, Chicken Breast, Chicken Liver and 3 Eggs. My HbA1C is 5.5, so I am not diabetic , but am surprised why my glocose reading usually never falls to 80 even before eating my OMAD lunch.
So, I put on the FreeStyle Lebre 2 CGM to see what is happening and decided to see what will happen if I ate Honey, which I never do, I was surprised. If I took 2 tsps of honey at 7:00 pm, my glucose readings, after rising up to 170, falls down rapidly to bellow 60 and sometimes reaches 54! Then returns back to my regular avarage of 110!
    What is happening?!

Glucose intolerance probably. You become more insulin resistant as your cells adapt to fat. He actually has a new video on carb cycling and the pancreas needing carbs to push insulin. I've also seen a cpl other gurus talk about studies where prolonged keto diets switch your mitochondria into full fat mode and they have less ability to allow insulin to deliver glucose. Flexibility is probably better goal. Fasting but w carbs. Keto days and glucose days. Mix it up.

That raises a question for me.
If I understand you correctly than fasting causes some temporary insulin resistance, which means it's not good to eat carbs right after a fast.
However, if you were to eat 3 meals a day, I've heard it said that it's better to eat your carbs early in the morning, because then your body has time to get rid of the sugars so you don't directly store them.
Given that you are still breaking a fast in that case ( just a shorter one just being a night's sleep) , those advices seem to condradict each other.
Or is the insulin resistance only the case after much longer fasts ?

You know what? I’ve been doing IF every day going on 4 years now and the only change I’ve made is I started doing an extended fast once a week from Friday 5pm-Sunday 9am, so 40 hours. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s probably not a bad thing if you’re body becomes adjusted to a calorie deficit. So what?! By doing the extended fasts I’m training myself. Most times I eat because I’m looking forward to eating not necessarily that I’m hungry. Trying to break that habit.

Hi THOMAS. Thanks for your well based scientific and critical material. I enjoy it too much.
Have you checked ceramides as the cause of metabolic syndrome, including diabetes?. It is not cholesterol. That is the frontier, and who are studying it, are silent until they get a specific product they can get a patent for it, to discredict any natural way to intervene that works. I ate tons of fruits for years. I end up with fatty liver. Then I drank a lot of coconut oil for two weeks as a deadly discovery. And 2 weeks later, I showed Diabetes type 2, first time. 3 months before my HbA1C was 4.3
I strongly used to defend saturated fats. Now, I learned that unfortunately I was mistaken. My Conclusion : saturated fat for a fatty liver person, is a suicide. Also, fructose cause fatty liver, fatty pancreas and a combination of fruits and saturated fat is a real auto destruction. I am not sure other fats like PUFAs and Mono are appropriate to these kind of people with visceral fat. I motivate you to get on this subject as part of your good service to informe later to your audience. Thanks.

I guess there several routes to reach the target of health according to other successful people with different ways.

If you don't eat you lose fat. (Minimum of 16 hours). The longer you don't eat the more fat you lose. (Maximum until you run out of storage fat). There are lots of things you can do to get the most out of fasting to persevere your muscle or other things. Better ways to break a fast and what to eat during your feeding, but if you are in a fasted state your body will use that storage fat. It's just so easy.

I don't feel any stopped benefits from daily 20/4 fasting, still full energy, still full mental clarity, still gain or lose weight if I either eat more or less calories, it's all about calories in vs calories out no matter what kind of diet one's follow, but yeah, I eat a very balanced diet that includes everything, carbs, fat, and protein, of course if I eat at a caloric deficit, I will be feeling weaker, but that happens with any diet, not IF., but even now that I'm cutting, I still have tons of energy, one thing that I do is some days I eat at maintanance, and other even a little more, and most of them at a caloric deficit, so as thomas says, that would be called intuitive fasting eating.

@@HuFlungDung2 it has been proven several times that it doesn't matter, just check dozens of videos of people eating just oreos or Twinkie's or things like that full of carbs eating under their maintenance and losing weight without any problem including myself, the problem with high carb is that it makes one hungry all the time because of the fluctuation of insulin so, that person in the end eats more without even noticing, 80% of people underestimate how many calories they eat and overestimate how many calories they burn, I did that in the past and that's why I couldn't lose weight, but then I full checked all that and now no matter what I eat, I lose or gain weight.

    • @HuFlungDung2
      @HuFlungDung2 Před rokem

@@MiguePizar The fluctuation of insulin is not what makes one hungry all the time. Your statement proves the fact that those carbs are going into fat storage and NOT being burned because they have become inaccessible and will remain so until insulin level drops to baseline. So it matters where the calorie comes from. So the lack of accessible calories is what creates the hunger, and because most people eating high carb diets are not fat adapted anyway, they can't properly utilize calories from fats they eat, either. So they are hit with a double whammy and get fatter no matter what.
The solution is to fast until you can get fat adapted again, and then restrict the carbs to minimal amounts so as to keep insulin levels low, and burn your own body fat.

Our cortisol levels are high during that time that fasting would rise it even more and that’s not good.
We women also shouldn’t fast like men (aka 16:8) and that we should vary our fasts.
