People like Sidney & Dre unfortunately exist in the real world. I call them "time wasters." Not only do they waste their time but other people's time & emotions too. They play the "pick me" dance for years. When confronted, they get defensive & try to gaslight to make it seem like everyone else is delusional. This movie ties this chaotic dynamic up in a nice bow. But the reality is people like Sidney & Dre are emotionally draining

The next movie is Just Wright. I hated that movie at first (too predictable. it came out on my bday and I was mad af in the theater). But now I appreciate it for what it is
I feel like the opportunist dude is symbolizing the state of what Hip-Hop is now. The state of Hip-Hop is filled with the more users than true lovers of the genre. Also I swear Megan and Queen Latifah could play mother and daughter in a movie. They somewhat look alike.

This isn’t struggle. Sid rejected Dre in college at Columbia (an ivy) and they stayed friends and lived across the country. When she moved back home he had already brought an engagement ring for Reece. That’s just life. And all these people were well off, classy, and well educated

Brown sugar and Boomerang will always be my top two favorite Black romcoms. I would even say Brown Sugar is more entertaining than Love Jones. Although it didn’t help that this movie was released two years after Love and Basketball, it’s somewhat better. The messiness was hilarious and messy chile.

I was in the 8th grade when this came out. This movie is the perfect time capsule for the early 2000s the casual head wrap low bun, earth tone colors, leather pants, ah. Take me back. This movie always makes me feel good.
The thing about this movie. This shows if you dont invest your energy and time in your partner. You basically take away their right to love you and get to know you.
Dre spent all this time worrying about Sydney...when he should have been putting hai energy into getting to know his wife.
Sydney needed to care about the people who wanted to give her what she wanted. Meanwhile she was begging Dre to love her.

This is one of my favorite movies. Connecting romantic love to her love for hip hop was such an interesting take on a romantic comedy.

Absolutely loved Brown Sugar!! Also when I fell in love with Yasiin Bey (Mos Def). So glad I saw him in concert last year with Erykah Badu! And Boris Kodjoe 🤤. The eye candy was real. I just know Kelby didn’t cook that food at the restaurant. The funniest part was when Dre was singing,”My divorce”😂😂😂😂.
I guess the moral is don’t let your fiancé keep you away from your true love, lol. Should’ve listened to her cousin. Love this review!

Man Brown Sugar brought back so many memories. I remember when I was in Kindergarten when it first released in theaters and I went with my mom to go see it. I also had a childhood female friend that I used to see all the time like she will come to my birthday parties & everything so every time I see this movie it instantly reminds me of her. & funny thing is I think was either 5 or 6 years old at the time but I remember watching this movie with my mom & dad & I was singing the hoe is mine and my mom and my dad kept fussing at me & tell me not to say that so I was confused as hell at the time because I thought it was an innocent song but now that I’m older & actually understood what they was saying I be busting out laughing every time that studio scene come on 🤣😂 But Dre was an absolute hypocrite he pretty much cheated on Reese the whole entire movie & took no accountability but made her out the bad guy when she went on a date with Richard Lawson.

This movie made me realize that there’s a special place in heyol for women who choose to be Pick Me’s instead of acting on their true desires. Sitting in the friend zone like it gives them some special award for not being like other women “allegedly”. It’s sad, pathetic and treasonous to other black women. Why?
She sits in her little friend zone watching other women get what she truly wants, jealous because he’s choosing someone else and not her. Thing is, the woman is never honest about why she’s in the friend zone to begin with!
There’s always a reason why she chose not to take things to the next level. Truth is bw know more than they lead on. Usually the male bestie usually does messed up things to women and keeping him in the friend zone is safer than her fing around and finding out. But she doesn’t mind watching him do it to other bw, excusing it as him being immature. Just like in this movie, she’s suddenly ready to confess her love when he “matures” and has fallen for someone else 😒.
She’s the one who will defend his messed up ways down to the socks by saying “he’s never done that to me.” While watching him do it to other women. Dre definitely said and did a few messed up things in her face and she let it slide:
1) His definition of Brown Sugar
2) Asking a woman he doesn’t know to be his wife based on how she looks.
3) Talking to her first and not his girlfriend/fiancé
The only thing good about this movie was the soundtrack. I’m glad they never made a part 2 to this fantasy because even though they ended up together, it never really works out in real life.

Dre and Sidney Were Both Successful, Musically Inclined People who Meant Well, just was Caught up in their Childhood Feelings for One Another.
Boris and Nicole Were Not Their Type because Reese was Not Supportive of his Dreams/Career, and Kelvin was not Supportive of Syd's Dream/Career.
It's still funny how Dre said,
"We're going to Celebrate My Divorce" 🤣.
