I'm a White 63-year-old-veteran who was a huge Humble Pie 🥧 fan back in the early 70s. Got to see lead singer Steve Marriott in some sleazy bar across the Mississippi River from St Louis in 1980 when he was solo touring. Wild man, unbelievable showman and singer!!!!!!! Sadly died in a house fire, caused when he fell asleep drinking and smoking. RIP STEVE MARRIOTT 😢.

Guitarist David Gilmour of Pink Floyd was friends with Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley. Gilmour asked Shirley if the Pink Floyd could hire the Blackberries for two European concert dates; Marriott reluctantly agreed.[7] The Blackberries consisting of Billie Barnum, Venetta Fields and Clydie King toured with Pink Floyd on the Dark Side of the Moon Tour in October 1973.[8] By 1974, the Blackberries were Venetta Fields, Billie Barnum, and Carlena Williams.[9] They appeared on Humble Pie's 1974 album Thunderbox. That year, Pink Floyd's manager invited them to tour with the band.[7] Fields and Williams toured with Pink Floyd on their 1974 French Summer Tour and British Winter Tour later that year.[10] The duo also sang backing vocals on Pink Floyd's 1975 album Wish You Were Here and performed on their North American Tour promoting the album

When watching Marriott strut his stuff, you immediately realize what is missing in today's rock music: sweet soulful vocalists. The white British singers of the '60s and '70s were heavily influenced by American blues and R&B artists but put their own indelible stamp on the music. Marriott, Jagger, Stewart, Cocker, Plant, (Paul) Rodgers of Free and Bad Company, just to name a few. I was fortunate to see Humble Pie during its U.S. tour promoting its "Smokin' ") album. My memory is a bit fuzzy but watching Marriott sing those songs was pure bliss. I know some of you will say "OK, Boomer", but those '70s-era rock bands not only kicked ass--plain and simple--but they constantly broke new ground. Today's bands are mostly derivative and lack the power and soul of those bands of yesteryear. And may I also note that it didn't cost you a house mortgage payment to see your favorite cool band back then (between $5 and $10). Hear that Taylor and Bruce.

If you love this, you should hear I don't need no doctor and 30 Days in the Hole. Also, since you guys just went to see the amazing Beth Hart, she has a version of I Don't Need No Doctor as a fan of Humble Pie and the amazing vocalist here Steve Marriott. Beth does it justice with her vocals.

Haha, the original did not have the line "my skin is white but my soul is black". Tina Turner sang "My skin is brown but my mind is black".

Steve was hooked up with the singer on the right. He was with her before Humble Pie. Steve was on the streets at 12 years old. Live, he was even more stunning. He played until the power was cut off to the stage, I know I've seen it happen.

oh dear, black coffee.... black pus... is what its about.., Vanetta fields is the middle backing vocal singer, check her biography of the artist she has backed, you will be amazed, the stories she could tell, she ended up as a more established singer for the great John Farnham in Australia, but please please do an interview of your life. from childhood to JF in ausrtralia, the stories you could tell from so many established artists in that time would be amazing , even just for Music History sake

Humble Pie is one the best rock bands in my opinion, and they can rock extremely hard when they need to. Try the long, live version of "Road Runner". I have been drinking black coffee for 40 years. Drink a pot/day these days.

Good one! Also "I Believe To My Soul" a great Ray Charles cover from the "Eat It" Album, live, featuring the Blackberries. Steve had deep deep soul...

Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa do a great version of this. This was my first time hearing this version, and I love it! Maybe time to revisit Beth and check out her live version of her song "Caught out in the Rain" live at the Royal Theatre. Cheers and be well you two.
