My grandfather worked at the WA during both wars. He rarely spoke about it but one story he told was being there overnight and the sirens started. All lights went off and people ran and hid under tables as it was too late to get to the bunkers. He looked up through the glazed roof and could see the spot lights and bombers overhead. Then looked down at the explosives all around him. The people under the tables were telling him to take cover but he told them to go away (in strong language), if they got hit, crouching under a table wasn’t going help.
