Lugano is a lakeside city in Ticino, the Italian-speaking part of southern Switzerland, and is the largest Italian-speaking city in Switzerland, or for that matter, outside Italy. Part of a temperate micro-climate, Lugano offers palm trees, picturesque boulevards, stunning views of the lake and the Alps, and plenty of opportunity for outdoor and indoor activities. Lugano also makes a good base for visiting other cities and sites in the area. The city is a pleasant place to relax in the summertime and is only half an hour away from Lake Como.

I used to visit this town once a month when I lived and worked in northern Italy. Lugano was not very well considered by the Italians, at least by the young people who considered this town mainly inhabited by retired people, a fact that at the time didn't bother me, as I enjoyed the beauty of the place, the tranquility and the lake. Plus the car journey from Milano to Lugano was very nice, I crossed an Italian enclave within Switzerland called Campione d'Italia, there were no borders, it was mainly a place with a casino where you can gamble. This casino is the oldest and the largest of Europe.

Lugano foi e continua sendo uma decepcao. De cima é uma cidade interessante pelo lago e por baixo um transito caotico e urbano, de motoristas apressados e motociclistas barulhentos. Outras cidades ao redor do lago sao mais amigaveis e o idioma nessa parte da suica é o mais abrangente imaginavel, o que enriquece o dialogo e facilita a vida dos muitos visitantes.
