- This "Mayflower Mantis" form is the first beginners form. It is known for explosive, bouncy movements. This is a clip of the 94 minute program called, "Praying Mantis Kung-fu". The clip also includes a few fighting applications. Form demonstrated by John Kane.

-Now, as far as the grabs and strangles you spoke of;Mantis is actually a grappling style and specializes in grabs, strangles, and grappling. The whole premise of mantis is to intercept, grapple, and disable with either lethal strikes or grappling holds. As they say, "It's all in the form". But once you learn the form you have to learn how to shadowbox with the individual movements and train like a fighter.
-The reason why is that many people just learn kung-fu for fitness and "perform" it like a dance routine. Real praying mantis kung-fu is a lethal martial art for fighting, health maintenance, and mental cultivation. In mantis we have all the ranges of combat:Kicking, hitting, trapping/clinch/in-fighting/Grappling_Groundfighting. It is a sad fact that many people who are teaching it have no actual training under a qualified master. I know it, I fight with it, it works!
I had heard of Bob Klein over the years and after seeing his demonstration for the first time now realize what people meant. This is truly a vial and repugnant excuse for Praying mantis kung fu regardless of the branch. I feel terrible for anyone who spent money on this production and worse for those participating in it.

This is NOT mantis kung-fu, not northern or southern. The applications look like a Japanese hard style karate class. Nothing true to any mantis system.
