6 Flags over Eternia!!
This was the kind of toy I'd call a "rich kid's toy". No normal kid was ever gonna get something like this.
Still true today. $550 plus shipping.
@@edwardjohnson6744 It's no longer a toy for kids it's a nostalgia piece for 40 something, balding, overweight, men trying to get a little bit of happiness in between work and the nagging wife and kids.
@@cobracommander9138 - I'll have you know I am only 39 and a half, thank you VERY much!
@@edwardjohnson6744 Well played! I'm surprised you are into MOTU and not TMNT and Power Rangers instead.
@@cobracommander9138 - I love TMNT. Power Rangers I only like the original series with like Lord Zedd and Tonmy The Green Ranger etc, I never really got into it after that 1st group of characters retired.
Why would He-Man build a public monorail system to his arch nemesis lair?
Exactly, dumb
They have a cookout on the weekends.
Hey u can take the train to the bronx??? So yeah y not?
Well Ogdenville, Brockway, and North Hevenbrooke all have them, and they’re pretty cool.
@@Maker277 - I guess it's more of a Shelbyville idea.
If only this had come out a couple years earlier...I probably would've got this for Christmas. I was already 13 in '86 and moving away from toys...although I did keep collecting the figures themselves until the very last.
I have one.. got it around 20yrs ago when they was way cheaper. Back when most people didn't have internet and alot of folks never knew they made a Eternia playset.
The size was impressive, but this playset didn't make much sense to me as a kid. But then, I was pretty much done with Masters of the Universe when Transformers came out.
I feel it’s kinda dumb really, not much play to play with. The Death Star and GI Joe fort are way better.
@@mokeimusic Yeah, for the price, there really wasn't much to it.
The price killed the fun
@@paulvincent5669 There were a lot of high end toys like that back in the day, cool looking items you knew you'd never get to play with.
I didn't have room for something like this and neither did any kid I knew. This was some Ricky Shroder/Silver spoons type stuff. I believe this would have failed regardless of the release year due to the sheer impracticality of a playset this large. J$H Friday 10.07.2022 8:22 PM
Would love to see one set up with castle grayskull up close. Probably pretty wicked
Great video, both informative and entertaining! I'm getting the new Origins Eternia and can't wait!
The biggest playset I ever had was the MASK Boulder Hill and I would store it atop of the refrigerator as I had no space in my room. I'm thinking here that Mattel was trying to outshine the GIJoe USS Aircraft Carrier.
I had this set! Got it for Christmas loved He-Man didn’t even now this set existed. The box was bigger then i was!
I always thought He-Man was silly. And Mr. French just had a special 30 hour video devoted to this playset. Learned more from Dorkman in this 14 minute video though then the 30 hour plus video.
I remember asking for the Eternia playset for Christmas '86 and coming up empty handed. My parents probably thought it was too expensive or couldn't find it. Now I know only 4,000 were made, so that makes sense. I later pieced together one over the course of a few years. Some of the pieces are pricier than others. I started out with a shell of the three towers with a few parts and kept looking on eBay for good deals on the other pieces. The only reproduction parts I have are the monorail tracks and Viper Tower chains. Will probably get the Origins one too as I am a huge sucker for all things MOTU.
Awesome video!
I'm pre-ordering the new version of this because it is cheaper and bigger than the original Eternia!
@That Junkman Yes, (MOTU Eternia Playset) and Hasbro's GI Joe USS Flagg) had to be the two best Playsets of the 1980s. Probably the biggest reason why they did not sell well? Was because they were just too expensive due to there large size. Most parents didn't want to buy them because of the high price range.
That play set is outta control!
I faintly remember this set when I was a kid. By that time I had moved away from MOTU because I saw them as little kids toys and had moved on to GI Joe because they were more realistic. I was deep into GI Joe. Now I like them both and it's costing me an arm and a leg.
I got a toy service station for Christmas. My father owned a service station. I think I was supposed to learn how fun it was to work in a service station. Didn't work.
Wow now I know a 10 year old isn't going to apply 80 stickers to Eternia. Back in 1986 a parent would be driven insane.
In RB's new vid he says anyone that buys this is "stupid" because he's afraid if people do it will give Mattel the idea to raise prices on his beloved MOTU Origins figures. So you're wrong JM this is NOT cool the overlord says so 🙂
Damn forgot to ask the toy god
@@ThatJunkman lmfao yesssss
I was a teen the only time i saw this in the wild (Service Merchandise) and was way expensive (to me at the time)
I remember I could have picked one of these up loose about 14 years ago for 600 bucks.....Now going for 2 grand???? Ugh!!!!
I am planning to get it because it’s the last white whale vintage play set I don’t have. I have the Flagg, Defiant and Terror Drome and Grayskull. Do I wish it was it $200 at target? Of course. But I think it’s a better value at the price than the haslab car at $350 or$500 light saber
Imagine... the Power!
Never even knew this existed. I stopped collecting He-Man stuff beecause of Shera.
The Origins version of Eternia is way too expensive for me. I’ll just stick to collecting the Origins and Vintage figures instead. I was lucky enough to get the Origins Castle Grayskull last Christmas though.
I feel like playing with the original toys back in the eighties was enough for me, but I do think they're really well done. I did pick up a few of the MOTU LEGO sets though. There is something timeless about shutting down your brain and just following directions!
Are you getting a new Eternia? I'd like one but I'd have nowhere to put it.
Love it
Some of my collector freinds have this playset. I'm pretty jealous, but can't spend 4-5 thousand dollars on one playset 😕
My ex mother in law has one in her attic new in the box.....always hated her lol
Is she single?
Back when I was collecting vintage He-Man figures, I couldn't afford Eternia, so I passed on it.
At the $550 mark, it's a better deal, and worth it to get the Origins Eternia. I backed it day 1.
I never had this as a kid, always wanted it though.
But if I hadn't dropped over 1k on the HISS Tank for my collection, I would have definitely backed this project.
Like you said, with inflation and the price of the vintage, this is a no brainer, I just feel bad for the people overseas, I'm hearing that this will be 1k with shipping.
Amazing video...MOTU is life!
Stick to these and you’ll do just fine imo
That is an awesome play set but as a kid I was in to Hot Wheels
The art and figures, especially Rio Blast and Sy-Klone, are awesome, but I don't like this set. Eternia is massive in my imagination. I don't think I saw it in stores. I think it was in the 80s Marvel Star comic. I had Snake Mountain briefly, but I took it back to get Omega Supreme from Transformers who was sweet. My brother had Grayskull which was awesome. If I had this and all those figures I would have said it was in pocket dimension and the heroes and villains were forced to fight over it by Zodac (we didn't have him) or something.
But it is coming back
In Germany this set cost 950,- Euros 😖
Sales were not strong in 1996
when seeing this the first time, I never understood the playset; three towers? and there seems so little to do; what's connecting to the towers, it's not even a bridge; what mattered to me was the castle; if I had seen the commercial, maybe I would have had a different view; nice vid
I’m a collector of origins. I love the new castle. I wish they would’ve gave us a snake Mountain. Instead of the origins monstrosity, of this place it. And the $550 price tag, is a joke. The original one was impressive, but I never was interested in it.
Snake mountain will come then finally origins will rule them all
It was an amusement park for He-Man complete with sky-car ride. I still don't get it. My guess is since Hasbro successfully pulled off the USS Flagg, then Mattel felt like they too could do a big piece.
I think both the USS FLAGG and Eternia playset were just too sparse with play features. They were just elaborate set pieces in my opinion.
Cost for the new one aside ($550 + $50 shipping + tax U.S.) you really have to have a lot of room to display this thing. I know it’s 4’ long x 3’ tall but I have no idea of the depth. Im waiting for the Mondo Battle Cat ( preorder order on Oct 25th)!! Which will probably cost slightly less, hopefully.
Thankfully Mondo offers payment plans.
@@PedroLopez-cy1kl Amen, brother! And I’m taking advantage of that. Funny to think we pay for something that we won’t get for who knows how long I got a He-man and Skeletor paid for and won’t see them until next year at some point. Battle cat may not arrive until 2024! 🤷🏼♂️
@@saddad6601 Thankfully, as an avid statue collector for many years now, I have become accustom to payment plans and long waits. Just part of the hobby at this point.
The depth is alot . The two towers sit behind the main tower and then the tram tracks make it that much more . Its about the leanth of two castle grayskulls fully open side by side .but probably more because the ramake set is made to be bigger !!!
👍👍👍
I can't even even out how to get rid of diarrhea off my leg,I could never put that together!
🎉😢Kids were growing up, so ...of course sales..dropped😢
It was VERY EXPENSIVE when it was new. I don't think it looked very good. Very tangled and complicated looking .
Not impressed at all. Looks Like the thundercats castle
Lol IKR
I thought the freight zone was great, with the slime pit.
