One thing I would always like to see is having a running timer on these builds during time lapses

i wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve already seen it since it started after you commented this, but grian’s 100 hours smp showcases this really well because of the timer in the corner :]
in videos an entire megabase looks like it takes minutes to build but in reality its days or weeks
He doesn't feel like making that mansion back so much, he would rather build a completely different mega base
but this base is much easier to make coz he has another helping hand, he can fly, he has mods and most importantly resource gathering is not required to be done

Holy cow! It's exactly like drawing. Planning, then doing the skeleton sketch, then fleshing it out, then adding colour and texture. Really speaks to artists, makes me wanna try making something big too!

That thing about "Don't think about the name of the block, just think about its color and texture" is amazing advice for me. That's my main problem with building. For example: I would never use grey wool as stone, because it doesn't make sense. But you helped change that.

General recommendation for survival:
Use easily accessible blocks.
Best case is that they're afk-farmable like Prismarine, stone, basalt, wood and so on.
concrete, terracotta, sandstone, glass and so on are a popular choice but add a massive amount of time in farming resources

As a French living in Normandy, I'm really happy to see that you got inspired by Mont-St-Michel. It really is a gorgeous place, I've been there dozens of times and it still amazes me that it was built centuries ago, on a small rock in the sea... If you have the opportunity to visit don't miss it. Thx for the video, gonna be useful for our kilo-base with my friends (do you say a kilo for a base less ambitious than mega butstill not a usual base?).

I know its been a long while, but heres som advice for anyone (like me) who struggle w motivation
1 set timers/pressures. This can range from an actual timer, a friend/friends to keep company and accountable, or even something as simple as self imposed pressures. do note if these pressures begin to seriously stress you, you should step away and take a break. Its a block game thats meant to be fun and relaxing, not a secondary job meant to burn you out.
2 set mini-goals for your build. Using an example from my own current project of a megabase dragon roost, I didn't build it all at once. I started with just the center piece, then pathways, then the larger details before anything massive. Setting more smaller goals makes the actual process of building much more manageable and digestible. Realistic and smaller goals are always the way to go.
3 Prepare to cope with uncertainty/build anxiety. Its entirely normal to feel anxious and uncertain while building, but many people can feel too anxious and indecisive to continue. If this occurs, it's important to take a break, step back, and relax. You should not force yourself if you aren't enjoying it. To help with uncertainty, it can help to draw it out, plan with others, and even create a duplicate creative world to plan ahead of time. Uncertainty is normal, but not invincible. Take time for yourself, plan ahead, and go in again. Its normal to be anxious, and tearing it down is normal and part of the process.
tldr: dont force yourself, set manageable goals, create pressures, and plan ahead

Me and 2 friends are planning on building a mega base together. I found this really cool huge cave and know I have to build an underground city of some kind. My friends decided that they will build on the surface and sky respectively. I'm so excited for this project!

Mushroom blocks arent too hard to get with a proper farm. Pistons push them into a conveyer while all you need to do is place them, however as you need to silk touch make sure to redirect them to where a player can mine them, not a blast chamber.

The advice here actually applies really well to smaller projects. The over-arching theme seems to be Start at the Macro Scale, then work smaller and smaller to add detail. Rather then trying to act like a build printer and crank it out at full detail from the start

For those who love seeing Pearlescentmoon’s building skills she has a CZcams and Twitch channel. Started watching her when Grian had the Evo SMP. Thanks for the intro to her Grian. You are both MEGA builders.
Having visited Mont Saint-Michel, I can confirm that it is every bit as impressive, mega, and absolutely breathtaking as you could imagine. It's like the Disney castle, but cooler and actually exists in real life. The tides at the castle are some of the most extreme in the world, which actually results in the castle becoming an island at high tide, but not low tide. At low tide, you can walk across the mudflats from the mainland to the castle, but at high tide the only way there is a boat (ignoring the modern bridge that's been built for tourists). They say that when the tide comes in, it's faster than a galloping horse. There are stories of soldiers that found themselves out on the mudflats right as the tide started to come in who were unable to outrun the water, and drowned.

Now that I've decided to make a mega base, which is a castle on a hill surrounded by rivers, I start to better appreciate the time that goes into these builds. My build is not as large as some of the megabases that I've seen, but it is time consuming, especially the terraforming. The terrain I decided to build on is more or less perfect for my castle and what I envisioned, but I still need to flatten certain areas of the hill and remove all the trees on it, which is easier said than done considering it is a forest biome. I also have to get an innumerable number of stone just for the castle, so I might actually make an open pit mine just for the ores and materials
This is why pearlescent moon should be in hermitcraft!
