WEATHER IN THE CARIBBEAN - Why do I see rain in the forecast?

- Weather apps will often show a rainy forecast for Caribbean destinations. Why is that?
That's a question I used to get a lot on social media when I was working for Club Med. People thought it was raining all the time where I was, just by looking at the weather forecast for whichever destination I was in. But there's a reason why those rainy icons keep popping up... and it doesn't mean you won't get that sunny vacation! In this video, I show you how to read that forecast, and what to look for to get accurate weather information for your travel destination.

Before Club Med, I used to be a weather presenter for 7 years (morning shows, which meant waking up at 2:30am every morning!) and now I'm back at it, this time in French for Quebec City's Radio-Canada (TV and radio). I've always been fascinated by all things weather. I'm not an expert on the topic, but I do think it's interesting to look at forecasts and how they're put together. Let me know if this video helped! Thank you! It’s first time when I’m going to visit Cancun with my family, and I shocked when I saw forecasts for the whole week when I will be there. You saved my mood and nerves.
I'm so glad you saw this video then! :) I wouldn't worry at all, you may get some rain but it doesn't mean you'll get rain all day every day! You'll be surprised to see how fast the rain dries too!
Great video! I shared it with my colleague who is going on vacation to Cancun in a couple days and was freaking out based on those pesky icons. I sailed in the Caribbean for months and tried to explain the weather situation and how the icons are misleading. Your video will definitely drive home my explanation and reduce her stress. Love this ! We are leaving for Cancun on Tuesday, Its gonna be raining and with my luck it will snow. Our last two trips , July in Boston...think 44 was the high YES and rained about everyday, and Vegas in Sept Oct, rained IN THE DESERT! every other day with cool temps. I guess it is what it is .. I will bring the rain gear and sweatshirts just in case.

Jessica! Remember the tropical depression a year ago this May? I was at Club Med in CanCun during that whole week! It rained, and rained, the wind blew, blew, and blew some more! Kinda crazy, but we made the best of it and had a grand time!!!!!

@@MzPink1992 there’s a tropical storm just east of the lesser Antilles. For now, it doesn’t look like it’ll hit Jamaica, but it might be good idea to keep looking at the updates to make sure the trajectory doesn’t change. I like to check nhc.noaa.gov

@@JessLaventure we didn’t make it to Cancun. We were in our way to the airport and we have to go through a mountain pass and it snowed so much they closed the interstate.

Right? I was always surprised to get these types of messages... Some people would write in and ask what I thought the weather would be like months in advance, like I was some kind of weather GOD who could control the rain.... That would have been SUCH A COOL JOB though!! hahaha

I saw several clouds in Aruba, I predicted it would rain, and it did.
thank you! 😭😭😭😭 im going to cancun, it seems like it’s gonna have thunder storm all weekend on my phone weather forcast. then i checked it seems like it’s not a lot of rain. then i checked again it says it’s gonna be sunny. im going thru a lot of moodswings checking the weather but you made me feel okay.

@@edubb2491 I went on april the weather was sunny all week! it rained only 1 time for like 3 minutes and that’s it 😂 It was so hot to the point I am getting dizzy 😵 overall it was an amazing experience!
Sorry for asking, but maybe you have an answer. What’s cuba (varadero) like in July? We can’t really check the weather yet cause it’s still a little away. Online there is lots of warnings for rain but I’ve been to the Caribbean before mainly dominican republic (around june) and it sometimes showers but not all day every day.
It’ll definitely be hot and humid, but I don’t think it’ll be necessarily rainier… You may get thunderstorms or showers at the end of the afternoon, but those are normally pretty quick and the sun usually comes right back out afterwards.
Hurricane season will have started already (it officially begins on June 1st) but the most active months are usually August/September/October. I’m sure you’ll have an amazing trip! :)
I would check the clouds to detect ANY forms of rain or thunderstorms in the Caribbean

Am i supposed to go to Cancun next week the 23-27th it is predicting a thunder storm all 4 of my days ……what’s your thoughts ?
Totally normal to get thunderstorms, especially at the end of the afternoon... When they happen, they’re usually pretty quick, and the sun and heat come back out after 30 min! And that’s IF they even happen... because a chance of thunderstorms is exactly that: a chance. It doesn’t mean it’ll happen. I say don’t worry about the weather forecast (except for hurricane watches of course), and enjoy your vacation!

I go to Puerto morelos next week and all I see is clouds and rain. Should I be worried? I went 3 years ago this time and it was nothing but sunny but I honestly never checked the weather last time!

How was it for you. I head to PR next week for a conference and all it says is rain. It is hurricane season too but no reports of new hurricanes around the island.
@@JessLaventure it went great! Was humid of course but overall it only rained really hard once for two hours! But it was very pretty to see.

I’m sure you’ll have at least some sun every day! The showers are usually only at the end if the afternoon and are quick to pass. :) Have an awesome vacation, and say hola to Cancun for me! ❤️
Going to Cancun for the first time for my birthday 14th -17th and every single day says rain and clouds all day with no sun . I want to cryyyyy 🥺🥺🥺 i pray this does not happen to me 🙏🏽
You may get rain at the end of the afternoon, but these showers usually don't last long and the sun comes right back out ! :)

Im been scared. I go to DR on august 11. Hopefully the weather app is misleading
It's not so much that it's misleading... Because there's often a chance of showers in the afternoon, you'll see that icon appear quite a bit on the app. But those late-afternoon showers are not enough to ruin your day, for sure ! :)
That being said, keep in mind that we are currently in hurricane season. It's always a good idea to check the National Hurricane Center to stay up-to-date on the latest hurricane info. www.nhc.noaa.gov/?atlc
So far, the Atlantic basin is looking pretty quiet. :)

My forecast is more grim... its 90% change of thunderstorms for all 7 days I'm there...
It could just be 90% chance In the late afternoon… not necessarily all day. Where are you headed to?
