  • Tony Robinson investigates ancient Roman society, chronicling the latter years of Julius Caesar, when his power stretched far and wide after a string of military victories. Separating fact from fiction, he reveals the global impact of his reign, unearths the truth behind the legendary meeting with Cleopatra, and asks if the ill-fated leader's last words really were 'Et tu, Brute?'
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

"How can someone who is hugely popular, hero-worshipped as a brilliant general and reformer, yet hated enough to be killed by the people who knew him the most?" People are selfish Tony. Common sense.

The wonderful Tony Robinson has done so much to educate us all and we all say Cheers to Tony Robinson and please God bless him we want him to live forever. These intellectual men are the hardest to convince that there is a god, they need a lot of evidence. The big trouble is that god does not want man to follow him from fear and necessity and for this reason god has to use other ways.

I don't understand what the word "brutality ..." means in the sense that for those times brutal was something else ... we see the ways of those times as brutal but for those who lived there it was normal ... indeed people WANTED TO SEE BLOOD , SEE FIGHTS ... in a sense all of this is within us even if we now feel different ... but it will always remain within us. I am sure that even if we now feel better, technologically advanced etc ... it would take VERY LITTLE TO GET US BACK ... AS LONG AGO. 1000 years from now, if we don't de-volve completely, who knows what they will think of our present times. If we fought the current wars with swords and axes instead of planes and bombs ... would you say we would be "more brutal"? A question I often ask myself, ultimately it depends on the point of view.

I came I saw I conquered. Interesting fact... The reason why Hitler named his empire the the third Reich was because the Roman empire was the first, the German army in the first world war was the second and the third was supposed to be the third attempt to conquer the whole of Europe under one ruler!

I guess, number of gallics troops too much exaggerated. How could they gather 250 thousands , supplied and armoured them? Such problems could solve only centralised states in 19 century. See napoleonic wars. Same fairytales told Greecs about million Persian troops.
