"PSYCHO" is my personal favorite i watched this film alone in the dark with my earphones my reaction was like i got up from my seat with the full shock and goosebumps i jumped and threw my stuffs, the background music scares the hell out of you!!this movie has got the best climax scene and even if you know its little secret it gives you a same impact every time one watches, even today i get goosebumps and i got chills while typing this too now that's the beauty of Hitchcock's masterpiece PSYCHO.such should be a movie!! imagine how was the audience reaction to it when it got release some six and half decades ago when the technology and internet didn't even exits!!This movie never gets old!!Thanks for uploading this informative video it really helps to connect and understand Psycho with the importance of background music in it!!
Bro u r criminally underrated ...keep making videos
Will do!
Bernard hermann was the best film composer of all time
That's hard to argue with, he's up there with Williams, Morricone, Shore, and Mansell as my personal favorites.
Easily top 10
@@kwameadu0075 Taxi Driver (his last score) was his best - just captures Travis' escalating insanity perfectly.
Morricone
Bernard Herrmann was a genius audio storyteller. He was John Williams' mentor, after all. And you can certainly tell where Williams got his expert music crafting abilities. Best movie theme of all time, as far as I'm concerned.
I will always view the score to Psycho as the greatest score of all time.
I totally agree!
@@JacksMovieReviews I read that the Beatles' song Eleanor Rigby was inspired by the spore from Psycho; the staccato strings.
the Psycho remake was the worst idea ever.
Pretty much
Don't forget all the horrible sequels.
@@kwameadu0075 no, not really. Psycho II is one of the best sequels in the history of cinema. I'd recommend the video "Revisiting Psycho II", it's great! Psycho III might not be the best idea ever but the performance and directing done by Anthony Perkins is brilliant. As for Psycho IV, it's not horrible, just pointless and kinda stupid in my opinion
It was just about as brilliant of an idea as a frame-by-frame remake of Citizen Kane.
I thought it was an interesting idea that didn’t really succeed. Apparently other people thought it was a worthy project, there was a good cast involved. It was kind of a love letter and introduced more viewers to the original
Fantastic dissection! Bernard Herrmann definitely was one of the greatest film composers of all time and revolutionized film scoring in many ways. Psycho is very likely the best example to show how important film music can be. The Hitchcock/Herrmann collaborations are all incredible. I would rate many of the Spielberg/Williams and Leone/Morricone collaborations a close second, but in different ways. Great analysis how the film exactly manages to throw red herrings at the audience, with the truth hidden in plain sight!
Thank you! I totally agree, Hitchcock and Herrmann yielded some pretty great results, and Psycho is a great example.
Keep up the great work! Your videos make me want to re-watch all of these great films.
The scene where the detective is going up the stairs... The camera is static w view from the ceiling... Slow going up the stairs and then suddenly Norman comes out of the room w the knife in hand ready to stab... Still gives me chills
Another excellent video, Jack. Perhaps the most perfect film to look at score as storytelling.
Thank you! This movie does a phenomenal job telling its story and uses so many different techniques to do so.
The score wasn’t nominated for an Oscar
Amazing!! I love this movie. Great video!
Psycho is not just a great horror film but a great film in general.
Nicely done. I learned a few things.
Great review on Psycho's soundtracks and its purpose!
Thank you!
Thank you for posting :)
Great job as always dude
Thank you!
Amazing reviews
Fantastic thriller. It took U back 2 a different time before color was even on the scene. All done in black and white it remains to be one of the best classics ever filmed.
Your videos are awsome! Aways clever POVs
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed!
Is it correct to say that Psycho was the first real psychological horror and slasher film? I guess almost all of the horror before 1960 was based around monsters of some kind? I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of an audience in 1960; I think I can understand how insanely shocking it was at the time, even though some of the themes and visuals are more normal these days.
Tres bien.
Merci Beaucoup!
Can you make a video about Jerry Goldsmith's music for The omen?
Like psycho good point jack’s movie reviews and ringer
dude. absolutely amazing video!!! +1 subcriber
Psycho is one of the best suspense movie with one of the best twist but it is not that horrifying.
In 1960 it was horrifying. Of course now we've all grown so numb by exposure to graphic horrors of all kinds, Psycho now is a ground-breaking time piece.(still treasured by me who will always be disturbed by Anthony Perkins smile at the end.)
The best example of the stupidity of the Hollywood production code in 1960 can be seen in Psycho. The scenes where Janet Leigh throws the note she had written in the motel into the toilet and when Perkins was cleaning up the bathroom were some of the first scenes ever that had a toilet in them, because the code until Psycho expressly forbid toilets from being shown!
And this is why it really bothered me when bates motel didn't use the music
While it never quite lives up to the original, I think that Psycho 2 is a very underrated sequel that people automatically write off because how could anyone follow up a Hitchcock film
I know this video came out awhile ago, but can you explain why I should forgive Psycho for its "explanation monologue" at the end of the film. It drags on forever, and lets all the psychological tension from the previous scene out of the bag. Besides that, great video.
I also dislike this scene very much. My guess for an explaination is the time in history when the movie was shot. Back then such psychological things were quiet new to the general audience, so maybe Hitchcock felt the need do give a little lecture in the end (especially clarifying that 'Norman' isn't the killer)
Are you still around? I know this was posted 7 years ago.....but you never know. I so enjoyed your view on Psycho and would of course love to watch many more of your videos. Where have you been hiding...you are really good at this! Course with Psycho......I would sit and eat pb and j sandwiches all day if I had a day to kill. Hope you're still around. Psycho is THE best movie ever made in my opinion and can you could take another 20 years to pick it apart learning all its deep dark secrets......the why, when and hows it took to make it. Just cant say enough about it,...period. Good luck and as I said......SO hope you're still around.
I wrote my Bachelor to this topic 🤣 thank you a lot for this Video!!
What's the name of that actor at 6:22?
Martin Balsam
The remake was horrible
What instruments are used to make this noise?
An all string orchestra. Composer Bernard Herrmann said that was to complement the black and white cinematography.
Hitchcock at his best
Could you please do 'Sunset Boulevard' I'm a new fan! You're great!
I would love to cover Sunset Boulevard, I don't have any immediate plans but I probably will do it one day!
Jack's Movie Reviews I'll be waiting
I'm not quite sure when it will be released, I've got all of this year planned out, but would love to cover it early 2017!
Jack's Movie Reviews You have to tbh
The remake was Fun to watch in comparison to the original
Without music stories would be boring
Excellent video .not hitchcocks best for me thats notorious but psycho is a masterpiece .a series of slasher films have followed psycho none ha topped it and neither will they
I think Psycho has more than cemented itself as one of the best horror movies of all time!
I wish i could've seen this movie blind without knowing anything about ut
A boy's best friend ia his mother...
Cant wait for eraserhead
Me too! It's one of my favorite Lynch movie and has a LOT of content to discuss!
For me
Psycho>>Rear Window>>Vertigo
The remake was terrible in so many ways. Like what is the point of making a remake that is shot for shot exactly the same as the original? And Vince Vaughan as Norman Bates has got to be the worst piece of miscasting in film history. Vince Vaughan? Was that because Adam Sandler was unavailable?
yawn. heard it all before.
