      Hello Alex,
      is it true that the camera has no auto focus? Blackmagic says that the camera will be good for sports productions. But without auto focus I would have a big problem with that.

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  Před 3 lety +1

      @@maximilianschmidt7432 It has autofocus but it is not continuous autofocus. You basically press and hold the screen on an area each time to trigger the camera to focus. If your subject changes you need to re trigger it. If you're not confident in using manual focus for your sporting event, I would probably recommend you looking at cameras that have continuous autofocus built in instead :) Hope this helps

    Audio engineer here. If you move that mic about 6in from your mouth it'll help get rid of those plosives and exhaling noise. Condensers aren't meant to be so close to your mouth, unlike dynamic mics which are supposed to be around 2in away.

    Nice! Thanks for all the great Blackmagic related videos, mate! Truly appreciate them 🙏🏼 These new cameras look solid! I think for a one-man studio setup, it’s really convenient with a flip out screen, so it’s kind of a bummer to have that amazing screen which I would rarely look at. Is the microstudio4k discontinued? What little monitors would you recommend with quality to match for a camera like these?

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  Před 3 lety +3

      Hey, yeah I agree with you, a screen that has some move-ability would definitely be nice! In terms of external monitors, I use a lot of BM's Video Assists. I fine them great!

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo Před 3 lety +1

      @@AlexPettitt thanks. I had a high end BM video assist for some time. Very nice. But in my closeup environment with a mic close-by, I found the Assist’s fan noise just about a notch too much for my setup. Now I’m just using a big cheap HD-TV. For keeping an eye on the composition, focus, histogram, audio levels and recording status. I’m thinking of getting a smaller portable HDMI monitor though. 12-15” or something.

    Great info, thanks. I started working in broadcast TV on a 2 camera Outside Broadcast truck. This was the state of the art gear at the time. Cost hundred of thousands to put together. Now one can put together a 4 camera video recording studio/OB setup for around $10,000.00. Nuts! We live in exciting times. The fixed monitor situation is a bit of a pain in the rear but I am sure it has to do with cost cutting. BMD have been made aware of this from the very start when these designs first came out. Question for you, if program video can be fed back to the screen, that would permit you to use this as a monitor when not used as a camera?

  • @KidTonyGaming

    From everything I've heard BMSC is a great studio camera for multicam set ups, but when you wanna use it as a regular "run & gun" camera is where it falls short (on top of it being a MFT mount) and you'd go better with a Sony or equivalent prosumer camcorder

    Yes, "World's Best Camera Audio" picks up the camera fan noise just fine! 😞
    There are VERY limited applications for on-camera microphones.
    Two that I can think of are: B-roll shots of breaking waves at the seashore,
    or B-roll shots of motor races (laps, pit activity, etc.)
    In both of those cases, the audio is there for authenticity, not for dialog, etc.
    and the sounds you are recording (surf, racecars) is significantly above the fan noise "floor".

    These cameras would kick the market if they had putted the b4 mount, that's the reality. I mean blackmagic had some arguable marketing choiches recently, I mean MFT it's ok if you use photo cameras, but professional grade uquipment it's a diffrent story. If they had put the b4 mount this would be the direct competitor to the ursa broadcast, I mean even the price could be setted 2k or more, and people would had buy these cameras blindful, but the choiche of going mft is completely wrong in my opinion, is a marketing thing I don't get it, furthermore, if you use it for an event there's no good mft lenses with wide focal lenght, nothing close to parafocal lenses or in general which can compete even with old style ENG b4 lenses.

    The BMD Studio Camera 4K Pro has a lot going for it, but ultimately falls short of the feature set offered by the Panasonic BGH1 cube camera. The BGH1 has the same MFT lens mount, dual native ISO sensor, and 4K BlackMagic RAW external recording features as the BMD Studio 4K Pro. It also has its own ethernet remote control/streaming port, which unlike the BMD, does not require an expensive interface box. Though the BGH1's SDI ports are only 3G versus the BMD's 12G-SDI, the BGH1 offers a wide range of internal 10-bit 422 recording modes, which the BMD completely lacks.
    The BGH1's biggest advantage, however, is its compact cube-shaped form factor, which allows you to rig it up in any way you prefer. Add a tiltable Atomos or Video Assist monitor/recorder, mount it on rails, or even on a gimbal. IME, these capabilities are far more valuable than the proprietary remote control and intercom features BMD offers with the Studio Camera 4K Pro.

    Thanks for the in-depth video. What do you think the odds are that there is a Pocket 4K Pro on the horizon?Blackmagic already has the internal ND's and tiltable screen from the 6K Pro. It seems very doable for them to give MFT shooters one last cinema camera.

    Alex -
    I have been searching around quite a bit and have it not yet found a solution to my situation. In short, I want to connect my ATM Mini Extreme Iso switcher to one of the new black magic 4K plus cameras via HDMI. However the problem is in our permanent install situation, I need a cabling distance of 200'.
    I have yet to get a definitive answer from anyone on whether this is possible with HDMI, including the option of some of the optical and or Active HDMI cables, or even an HDMI over cat six conversion set up.
    Obviously I want to maintain the two way communication option to be able to control the camera from the switcher.
    Any guidance here is greatly appreciated
    Best Regards, Tim

    Hi Alex, thanks for the video. The specs say it has autofocus with compatible lenses. Is this continuous autofocus that tracks your eye/face, and which lenses are supported with autofocus capabilities?

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Cheine, it wouldn’t be continuous auto focus as the camera doesn’t currently do that. You’d have to trigger the autofocus by long pressing and holding on the screen or setting it as one of the three function buttons. I hope this helps

    Same sensor as the BMPCC 4K, but I got trapped by the Studio not doing ProRes - I had a very tight workflow built around ProRes and didn't do my homework/testing on the Studio 4K+ before using it on a job. It caused a lot of issues in post...my own fault, but beware.

    • @GregStonham
      @GregStonham Před 2 lety

      There's also no easy way to rig accessories on the Studio models, if you need to mount a little mic you may find yourself slinging it below a 15mm rod, under the lens.

    Where are you recording your audio to? It looks like you're using the 3.5mm jack to your ATEM mic input. Where do you plug in your USB for it?
    I have the NT-USB as well and I tried out my brand new ATEM and my first attempt I got a lot of loud electronic screeching sounds.
    I came back a few hours later to diagnose and it went away. Not sure your recommendations for how you setup your mic in this studio. Hopefully you have a video on that.

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  Před 3 lety

      Right now, talkback is not supported by the ATEM Mini range, you need to have an SDI based ATEM that has both SDI in and SDI out for return (as the talkback uses SDI channel 15 & 16 in the return feed). Hope this helps

  • @retlwiz
    @retlwiz Před 2 lety

    I do conference filming with BM cameras and an ATEM MINI and the real deal breaker on this cam is the MFT sensor and thus no B4 lens mount. There is no point in my world in having a studio camera that cannot zoom in and out without having to buy an MFT lens and yet-to-appear focus and zoom controls. These MFT lenses are NOT parfocal, and so zoom is now much harder. Add to that a non-swivelling screen (there are MANY occasions when a camera is mounted at an angle) and the fact that virtually no-one wants recordings in BRAW , then there is NO point in getting this camera. Shame, because it could be great.

      The barrel power connector works with 12-18V so you can use a V-Mount battery with the appropriate cable. Or probably even a car jump starter that has a sufficiently-large sealed lead acid battery in it. That'd be a simple cig lighter to 5.5mm DC cable.

    Hi, would you happen to have any recommended remote heads to control pan & tilt via control room?
    Also, I understand it records RAW ONLY internally but what if I'm trying to send signal to my ATEM switcher can I manipulate it to ProRes through the SDI output? Thanks!

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Rosalia, the best one I’ve seen is the DJI RS2 with a Middle Things controller. This gives full control of Pan & Tilt & all camera controls.
      The SDI output is uncompressed, so if you attach a recorder that records in ProRes via SDI then you can record to that. For example, a Hyperdeck Mini will record the SDI output from the camera In either Pro Res or H.264 :)

    This is supposed to be a camera review - 80% of it is a view of your face stuck in front of a microphone. When you have shot a clip of the camera , you cut straight back to yourself as quickly as possible. I think you need to understand what people expect to see in product reviews.
