This reminds me of old cod4 snd days on 360, can someone tell me how I can play promod? I want to get back in to it as ive never enjoyed a game as I have cod4...
Man if you played it on a console, let me tell you, its going to be a VASTLY different experience.
First I'll tell you how to get it on pc, then we'll discuss on the difference of experience .
There are 2 ways.
1. The legit way.
Go to steam, buy the game. Download and install. Once you open iw3mp.exe,it should show an option for "auto update", the top most option.
Click it and it'll install the latest (1.9)patch.
Then go to Google, type "cod4 promod servers". It'll list the website gametracker.com as the top result.
Click it. Join any server with the name promod in it. How? Just copy the ip address shown by gametracker, open iw3mp.exe, press the tilde(~) key on your keyboard, that will open the console bar, (its about a centimeter wide bar that's shown on top of the screen). There you type this,
/connect (paste ip address here).
So suppose the ip was like 209.58.180.10:28961.
All you have to do, is open console (~), and write /connect and then paste ip.
Should look like this.
/connect 209.58.180.10:28961
Press enter, and it'll join you to the server. Start playing and enjoy.
Now here, 3 problems can arise.
a. The console won't open even after you pressed the ~ key.
For this, go to options, then look in either "game options" or "multiplayer options", and you'll find a setting called "enable console". Set it to "yes".
b. The "auto update" options didn't work and the game is still stuck to patch 1.7(you can see patch version on bottom right corner once you open iw3mp.exe). For this, click on this link.

This will automatically download the patch. It will be a zip file. Unzip the file which has like 4-5 different files. Copy them all and paste them in your cod4 directory(the one which contains iw3mp.exe).
c. While connecting to a server, it might show error(key code not found). In this case, check and see if steam has provided you a key code for the game or not (though it should've already applied it). Once you find the key, go to iw3mp.exe->options, multiplayer options, enter key code , and type in the key manually. Click "verify" and done .
Now you can enjoy playing promod, just copy any server ip, paste it in console and play.
In my next comment I'll explain how to get the game the other way.
Way number 2. The pirate way.
(and the way I play the game now since I don't think it's worth paying 15-20 dollars for a game that's 13 years old, with a very little player base, especially since way larger esport titles like valorant, csgo, Dota, fortnite, league etc are free to play).

For this, just install the game wherever you want. Open iw3mp.exe, go to options, multiplayer options, enter key code.
Minimise the game.

It has like 14-15 keys listed. Literally type in any one of those, click verify, and done.
As for the patch, the procedure is the same. Download the patch from cod4x.me/downloads/cod4x_client_19_0.zip
Unzip, and paste the files in the directory.
Now just join a server and play.
As for 5v5 matches like the ones shown in the video here, you will need to find teamspeak servers where people play cod4 scrims (matches). I think there is a discord server dedicated to matchmaking as well.
While you wait to find a scrim, you can play snd or tdm or whatever else you want in a public server.
Also, click on "join game", and on top select "Internet cod4x", and it'll show you a list of public servers as well. Just join one and play.
Now in my third comment, I'll tell a bit about promod.
So promod is basically a community created mod for the game.
What it does is that, first, it removes things like perks, silencers, weapon attachments etc.
Secondly, it also removes some visual hindrances like fog and dust /smoke particles you find in the base game.
Third, it makes the game smoother to play and way more focused on aim and game sense (since you don't have the luxury of red dot sights or acog scopes).
Fourth, it limits the number of weapons.
There are only 2 snipers in promod, m40a3 and r700, both bolt action.
Smg's like p90 are removed.
Lmg's are removed altogether.
Fifth, it gives access to change graphical settings like film tweaks. As you can see in this video, phantasy is using a yellowish filter type film tweak. All of this can be changed to your liking.
Lastly, if you have any query while setting up your game or any error while doing so, just reply back to me here. I'll help you out.
Edit:forgot to tell you a few things.
Type in the following commands one by one in the console and press enter everytime you do so.
1. /cg_fovscale 1.125
2. /cg_fov 80
(the above two commands change your field of view to 90(80*1.125=90).
90 is the highest fov u can have in promod, though some servers provide a larger fov scale (like 1. 25 or 1.5)but the fov is limited to 1.125 or lower in matches.)
3. /cg_drawfps 1
This command shows you your fps counter.
4. /con_maxfps 250
/com_maxfps 250.
These commands set your maximum fps to 250(max allowed by promod) in usual servers. Although in codjumper servers, you can go higher (333,500,or even 1000) provided your pc supports that much.
Anything higher than a gtx 750 ti should be able to support 250 fps at 1080p in cod4.
