- The NEW M340i is here to bring performance to the 3 series lineup without you having to break the bank. Under the hood is an 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 that is producing 382HP & mate to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The current generation of the 3 series is a little large and this M340i had a unique front fascia and wheels. On the inside you will be greeted to upgraded materials and perfect steering wheel setup. You got screwed, just leased it with my broker for $512 a month. With the executive package. Bear in mind, that was with Msd’s.

If you press the traction control button ONCE, it enables DTC and it allows the car to slip more before intervening. If you press and hold the button for about 10 sec, it turns off all traction and safety systems. At least this how it used to be on previous models. Haven't driven this one yet.
This is a great review. We just got a 2021 a couple months ago, got the X drive. This car is the perfect balance of comfort and luxury when you want to just drive around and all business when its time for that!

I have an M340i with very similar spec to the tester. Mine is also RWD which gives up some acceleration off the line but is lighter, more dynamic, and better balanced. I'm in TX so XDrive isn't a must, but a light interior stays cooler.
You need to put it in Sport+ for more tail-out attitude. You forget to mention an important standard feature is LSD.
$60K is pretty reasonable considering the performance and comfort. I don't miss any options not on my car. I got a significant discount and that was before COVID. And if anyone cares, I get a legit 30 MPG in fast highway driving.

Awesome review Joe. I drove this car at the BMW M Town Tour event and it's a fantastic car. The acceleration, handling, sound etc. are all respectable.
I bought an M340i about a week ago and it is an excellent vehicle. Only odd thing I found the sunvisors a really cheap material and the passengers side mirror isn't auto dimming but the other ones are. It is a very fast and capable car for sure!

It destroys the e53 and a g63.
There is also a race between the m340i vs the rs4, and to be honest, it does hold up decently, obviously the rs4 wins but not without some contest :)

When you said over 500 different colors to choose from I ran to my M340i to make sure I wasn't crazy lol.... unfortunately there's only 6 solid colors to choose from + a few accents of white with those same colors... Mercedes definitely has BMW beat on their ambient lighting (color options AND amount of light) BUT otherwise, the M340i tops any car in its class including the C43 AMG! Great video by the way, keep it up!
Also I have the RWD and I have been consistently hitting 4.0 0-60 with a few 3.9s and a few 4.1s. Maybe with the AWD it can get to 3.8! Still it's a beast!

I bought a 2020 for 48k with 5k miles.
Amazing car.
What people don't understand is MCars get annoying to daily when they devour oil as well as attract a shit ton of attention and have a stiff ride.
This is the happy medium. You can run errands comfortably.with better newer tech and still race in traffic to get shit done if need be.

I own a 2020 M340i xdrive in Portimao Blue and oyster interior. Having the xdrive makes a big difference as opposed to the rear kicking out as you showed in the rear drive model, as it’s non-existent due to the xdrive kicking in. Also, the xdrive model knocks off a few tenths of a second from 0-60. Only options missing from mine is adaptive cruise and adaptive suspension. Thanks for the review. I recommend to anyone cross shopping between Audi and MB. This car replaced my Audi S3, which was a great car.

I own a 2020 m340i xdrive, runs 12.08@114 at my local strip, great all around car. Still need my hellcat charger for the v8 roar but don't sleep on the m340i
Great review. Question. S4 vs M340i as a daily. I have driven both and day to day, NOT on a track, I found there really wasn;t a huge seat of the pants difference, EXCEPT in the ride, which I found the S4/S5 was smoother and more comfortable. Curious your thoughts between the two, again as a daily, knowing that there are those times where you are using it for the daily commute. Thanks.

The 3-series (especially the older ones) has always been my favorite BMW because of the driving dynamics.
Yep an older E46 330ci ZHP and E60 BMW 550i M Sport were my favorite BMWs when it came to driving dynamics. The ZHP was a tad stiff but the handling was so rewarding. The 550i had a great blend of comfort and handling plus the seats were the best I've ever felt in a modern vehicle.

Good review. Many fair points. I like how BMW is trying a little harder, still not sure on grill. I like what Genesis did with the G70, but this thing eats it in every way. Maybe not service costs lol. But I like everything else more on the 340i except the price. Missing some options for that price too. You ain't getting 22mpg on a 3.3T G70 either. I typically really like white cars, but with that Grill, I think I'd go a darker color, maybe dark Grey to make it stand out less.

Love these cars! Not a fan of the light interior but that's just me. I also agree with others and they need to redo the digital dash layout. Not a fan of the weird tach/speedo the way they show. This is a seriously fast car for the money. Give me one in blue with the red leather interior and I would be in love.
Which did you prefer s4 or 340i?
I test drove ‘17 or ‘18 CPO 340i 6-speed manual with the ZHP package last year. What a super nice car. Couldn’t afford it at the time, but it became one of my dream cars that day. I wish BMW still had a manual as an option on the non-M3 3-Series sedans. As it is, I’m just hoping to find another low mileage CPO like that in a couple years.
Also, I agree with Joe. That curved grill leading up to the hood does not look good. I hope BMW rethinks that when they refresh this car.
For Europe we also get the M340d (the fastest diesel car on sale today with a 0-100 time of 4.6 seconds). It’s got 335 horsepower and 700 newton metres of torque.

BMW says 0-60 4.4 for rear wheel drive and 4.1 for AWD.
3.8 is faster than M4’s!
Its been tested as fast as 3.8 secs. BMW is known for understating their numbers.

Never been a big fan of BMW but this one, even though I'm not crazy about the looks, is a exciting car and is priced right considering the performance.
I love all your reviews. Your definitely the one I listen to because of your great insights into each car you drive and those food references always crack me up.
All that said, I still want the Polestar. There's just something about an upscale EV that does it for me. I'm afraid motorheads are going to have a hard time adjusting to this new era in automobiles.

Full disclaimer. I just bought one of these and LOVE it. However to the people bashing the price as compared to a normal 3 series. You need or compare apples to apples. This starts at $55. You can spec a regular 3 series higher than that. Mine cost $65K but it came with heads up display,semi-autonomous driving,full LED lighting with laser headlights. It parks itself and has 360 camera and 3D external view of the car. All this and it goes 0-60 in 3.8 seconds! This car is a bargain.

Place it in Sport Plus and push the traction control button once to reduce the level of control a bit then it will rotate on power.. I have a 2020 X3 M40i and that helps keep momentum out of a turn..

YES and I've had 3 Audi (B8/B9/C7) in my family last 6yrs. The Audis were good...the BMW with B58 I-6 is way better. Have a X3M40 currently and will get the sedan next time I trade up.
I'm a MB fan and owner. But I love the new design of BMW. And their interior has gotten so much better, both aesthetically pleasing and in quality of materials. I recently rented a 2019 Q7 premium plus when I was in LA a few months ago. The interior and materials used was a huge disappointment to me. So was the drive.

That USB and 12 volt near the cup holders are water proof. They say you can even pour water directly in there and it won't affect them.

Great video, thank you Rati!! Cool looking little BMW. I like the broken up style of the kidney grill that this one has makes it a little different from the usual kidney grill! I think it should have some more nice materials inside for $60,000 TBH and for $60,000 it should have some carbon fiber accents instead of that fake looking carbon fiber trim.

Nice car and nice review. But taking a quick look on auto trader shows that after 2-3 years it loses almost half its value. Plus you never want to keep these after the warranty expires.
That's why people lease them, then get rid of them before problems start.
At least that's what this guy said in another review of this vehicle.
Because of reliability issues, that's why you buy them used.
You'll be able to use the savings to repair them when they break down.
First 3 years, have fun!
Hold down traction control. Turn DTC off. And then try to slide the rear end out! Have fun.

I have the 2020 M340 XDrive and it smokes the competition unless you go full M3. The S4 can’t even touch the 0-60 numbers the M340. I agree with you about the gloss black on the front lower fascia. I wished they would have gotten rid of the rear ugly exhaust tips. Exposed exhaust should have been offered for a car you pay nearly $65k

S4 is fast, but not as fast as this 340. S4 has the better interior in my opinion.

Correction! There is no such thing with bmw as in providing 500 different colours. If not mistaken it's 7 base colours with option each combined with white. So realistically u are looking at 14 colour themes.
