Written and originally recorded by John Hiatt for and released on his 1988 album Slow Turning, this tune was covered most famously by Buddy Guy for his 1993 album of the same title. I was just learning guitar and songwriting at the feet of these giants when I first fell in love with this tune. I do not claim ownership of any kind. I do think it's awesomely notable that John Hiatt is also originally from Indiana-as a former Hoosier, I do claim 'ownership' of him.

Great job Michael
The only thing that I can tell you is to come further south and you'll be a hit! We have so many festivals that bring huge crowds. Anywhere along the Gulfcoast region and metro areas of Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi you'd be a popular favorite in no time. Oh and don't forget Tx.
Unbelievable. I was in awe
fantastic job Michael
Thanks sir💓
Great job 👍
Dude. This was great. I have to tell you I have been playing guitar for 40 years and this is my all time favorite song. I have never heard anyone do a better job. I have to also say Buddy Guy is one of my favorites and you did this song above and beyond justice. Excellent, excellent excellent!!!!!!!
Holy hell, man. This is beautiful. As a huge buddy guy fan and avid guitar picker, you get mad props for this. Keep it up please
Sweet! I think you just inspired me to learn this one. You kept the lead and rhythm integrated with one instrument. Well done!

I love your music, your voice is so soothing. You also remind me of one of my favorite actors in some angles, much like paul giamatti but better looking.

For just a second there I thought to myself "I can do that" and I almost got up to get my guitar. Then 1:50 happened and I kicked on back and just listened.
Great voice !! That hollowbody giving you big time feedback. Try a solid. EXCELLENT !!
well done man
Very nice playing and vocals. IMHO guitar sounded a little muddy, maybe some compression would help? Mention it only because I thought your vocals were so much clearer and I know your guitar playing was just as good.... but was cloudy.
very very good! I was pleasantly surprised. You have a great voice. I would love to listen to you do covers at a club or something. Do you perform?
Fab version Mike, your good, bring it on what the make of the guitar please?
Thanks Howard! The guitar is a Godin Multiac Jazz SA

Hey thanks @willreeves01 ! Check my description for the new website, as it won't let me post it in a comment...also it is listed on my channel page! I'll have to check out the subdudes :)
@sandeep1233 -indeed it is, thanks...always feel under-dressed with that axe

East Coast Productions.
What kind of guitar is that ? Godin ?
yes indeed, a Godin Mulitac Jazz SA. :)
:)
what does this song mean exactly?
It's a ballad/love song whose setting (deep south/Louisiana/delta) is as much a character as the fictitious couple at the story's core. I don't take there to be a secret meaning in this song. Rather, you have a master songwriter/storyteller from the Midwest quite deftly capturing the essence of southern soul and highlighting it with familiar tones and imagery.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
REQUEST: Into the Mystic!!
Great vocal.........take some of the effect off the guitar tho'
@uyngane, I just put it up recently-check my channel!
Sounds like Van Morrison singing!
ITS A JOHN HAITT SONG..NOT BUDDY GUY
Yes, I'm aware of that. I like to give credit to both the original writer and performer who made a song famous, hence including both in the title.
+Michael Sharp I agree with you, Michael,....They both deserve credit.
John Hiatt 🤣🤣
Great cover!
