Listen to BORN SINGER any BTS an adaption of J. Cole’s Born Sinner. They remade in 2013 and officially released it in 2022 (with JCole’s permission). It’s definitely more moving

Suga was 20 and JHope and RM were around 19 when they did this cypher. You are going to love Cypher 2 and 3. The army goes crazy when they do their cyphers live. Their cypher 4 is probably my favorite one live just because of the crowd involvement.

I started to explore BTS just about 4 years ago. I am retired, so I had time to explore their music, their fun reality shows, Vlives ...dee'p dive. I also spent time researching Korean culture. I concluded that the topics they did and did not cover were not necessarily the same as ours, here in the West. It has been a great way to expand my knowledge and understanding of the world

you worded that perfectly and youre very respectful anyone who dont get that is just not listening or they dont listen to hip hop hip hop or rapping rapping iykyk.
im a hip hop head im not a expert but i especially love nyc rappers one of my favorites is mobb deep. i felt similar to you when i first got into bts but what you have done a disservice to yourself as i had also done and many others do as well is we jump to random songs off random albums random collabs random singles etc
i used to be a albums person listen from start to finish digest the overall album and each songs lyrics and depending on if its a singer a rapper or a band/group etc ill pay attention to different things.
when i got into bts i didnt do that i jumped around and my friend whos also a army trying to get me into them told me no no start from the beginning do full albums especially songs without music videos learn their history as you go through the music etc
i started doing that and i realized how genius they are as artists as well as was given much needed resources to get all the wordplay cause as you said its not catching everything or hitting as hard if you dont understand the language.
but that even melted away the more i got used to reading the lyrics and reading the interviews and reading the live streams and reading the documentary subs etc when youre in that mindset of bts = reading everything you find a new appreciation for them and find you dont look at their music the way you look at english music
anyways what you were saying about them evolving yes 100% they do/will but also the lyric video you reacted to 1 did not do the best translation work sometimes its not even the language barrier its who translates it or how they structure it in english but also the lyric video was UPLOADED/created 6 years ago the actual cypher was released in 2013 on their 2nd EP. so even longer ago than 6 years about 10 years almost 11 years.
you also have to keep in mind who their inspirations are for rapping. theyre not looking to drake to learn how to rap even tho in the past they did like his music (idk about now but they always mentioned kendrick lol)
but like for RM his biggest influence is Nas, Pharrell, epik high (a korean hip hop group not kpop at all you should check out their song anti - hero they been around since 2003) , 2pac, biggie etc
suga's inspirations are Eminem, epik high, 2pac, dynamic duo etc
j-hopes is slightly different as he learned to rap through rm and suga while rm and suga started rapping on their own through their influences and underground j-hope was a underground dancer so he knew rhythm which helped with learning how to rap but his influences differed a bit his biggest is J cole, asap rocky, epik high, dynamic duo, 2pac, biggie, nas , mac miller, kanye , kendrick
they all like majority or all of these rappers but the ones they focus on as the biggest inspiration is key to understanding their styles as they formed.
j-hopes more melodic even on cypher tracks and group tracks with the other rappers because thats his style and he learned how through j cole, mac miller, asap, kendrick, epik high etc
suga/agust d is a little more aggressive/speed so eminem is a huge influence with him but his writing and flow changes can be sited to 2pac and epik high etc
rm is a natural poet and found hip hop early when he was starting to enjoy poetry and he saw he can do both as that is hip hops core. and Nas's story telling and flow is his biggest inspiration along with others. i cant narrow it down to every aspect of every artist they love but atleast Nas, Eminem, J cole and epik high are consistent in their styles and they speak on them the most.
for example one of my favorite songs by Nas is Heaven and i see so many bts songs have that same feel to Heaven just different.
one of the main things i say to describe bts to me is all the hip hop and r&b collabs of the 90's and 2000's thats bts to me even if the production sound is more pop.
the 3 rappers hold the rapper place in the song while the 4 singers hold the r&b place in the song like example nelly and kelly dilemma, or she got her own by ne-yo, jamie foxx, & fabulous.
its less backstreet boys more nelly and kelly still more mainstream not full hip hop as a group but not pop either they have a few pop songs but majority of their music is hip hop or r&b centered and even the pop songs have the hip hop raps and r&b vocals just over pop production.
next the lyrics i bet if you used better channels the songs would hit much better so please use channels like dial 6137 or enjoybtsmore of course if those channels dont have the song youre looking for then use another but try to stay away from the most viewed channels like jae guchi or lem oring or shadow by yoongi these 3 always mistranslate to where it makes no sense at all in english.
if you have trouble and dont wanna use a bad channel type in doolsetbangtan translation and the song name into youtube and hopefully many will pop up. doolset is a website by a korean army who is fluent in english and helps global army understand their songs so channels that use her translations are the go to dial and enjoy bts i mention above both use her translations as well but if theyre ever missing a song best way to find another channel is to search for someone who used her translations. never use genuis they mistranslate and i dont suggest using doolset website directly because its hard to keep your place when reading as she doesnt indicate on the site where the song is so youll be at the top and the song would be half way through already.
but i gotta emphasis the lyrics are the main reason bts is global. they speak about the unspoken in most asian cultures and in some other cultures as well. its a whole thing and please react to boracity magazines videos on bts i know its not music its out of the way but i swear we will watch the full reactions and youll learn so much more about bts and even army etc she covers different topics that will help you get bts on a deeper level besides their music i suggest starting with trends bts created or how bts army changed fandom culture. sorry for typing a book if you have any questions or need me to clarify anything let me know :)

I agree with you. The only thing I “think” about their cyphers is that those were likely censored. These guys had shit to say, but the label prob had a lot of control on marketing them to clean trash talking. You look at their current work and I think they have more freedom. If anything I take away from these cyphers is their flow styles and technical abilities. No major hip hop substance was probably permitted 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @tastefullyrics4895
      @tastefullyrics4895 Před měsícem +2

i disagree heavily tbh. they were not really censored by the label at all as they have FULL creative freedom. i think its because while they do curse they do put people in their place they had to be mindful of the industry theyre in. its not the label itself its the industry as they were hip hop idols. what them and their ceo said was they were a idol group in the idol system with a underground mindset. they were never told to censor themselves and the ceo even says to them on camera that they shouldnt worry about what others think that they have his full support to make the music they want and write what they want but rm and suga had anger at the underground's treatment of them for choosing to become idols while also still holding deep respect for hip hop and learning that some things normalized in koreas underground is actually wrong and many can see it as mocking hip hop. so they were not only building on their craft learning what feels right but also trying to not upset the idol industry because they knew they wont get exposure staying underground and they didnt want to disrespect the underground in ways that were out of line not a you spoke on me so ill speak on you but i wont say wild shit that is unacceptable just because a few of these underground rappers pissed me off then the unlearning of toxic things underground was doing and learning how to properly respect black hip hop artists to gain true respect.
i think thats why they seem careful but as you notice in their growth they let go of the aesthetics in clothes, hair and music videos and just say whats real and deep inside them and keep building on that until you get their solo projects today. its not being held back by the label its being held back by your own fear on upsetting people you respect both your old friends, their way of doing music and the hip hop greats in the u.s they 100% never want to disrespect them.
im not sure how much either of you know about korea, korean culture, or the idol industry and how the korean media and public reacts to idols. but korea overreacts very easily you know how in the states and western countries we say cancel culture dont exist and people see cancelling someone as a joke or its dumb etc in korea when they cancel you your career is done like its really done its depends how bad and what label/company youre under but for the most part especially if you dont have a strong western fanbase youre just done. its similar in other asian countries too like china if someone is cancelled they get erased from the internet in china like you will not find anything about them in chinas internet once theyre cancelled. korea isnt that extreme yet but the reaction from the public is severe. like some labels see dating as a scandal that the public will cancel so they ban dating all the "kpop rules" are a case by case basis and the rules are there due to the publics past reaction where some idols were kicked out of groups and labels for dating etc
so bts released this cypher in 2013 same year of debut you can tell theyre holding back but its cause theyre rookies they dont wanna step on toes they already are technically due to the nature of their other songs which heavily criticizes the korean education system but by seemingly causing trouble with underground rappers directly that can end the group before they truly start. but i just wanna emphasis they have and had back then full creative control on their music, lyrics, production etc they held back by their own choice to build up more experience in the industry before they really start going harder. also name dropping can get you sued for defaming in korea thats very very heavy so keep in mind youd need to know about the people they rap about to figure it out later as well. and koreans see complaining/attacking others as weak 9very ironic as they do the same to idols who date or other small non issues) so if theyre direct not only can they be sued many can cancel them and call them weak minded for attacking someone.
Rm said once in a interview "how much truth can we say in our lyrics to not look weak or like we're attacking our opponents? how much truth can i really say?" and thats not due to label pressure thats due to society. they built hybe with their success. the ceo owes them everything and refected that in all their contracts its said that bts new contract that starts in 2025 has never been done for any artist in the world not just korea but also the west so its known to give them freedom and probably full rights of their music, masters and group name and stage names etc because the ceo had said in a recent interview that bts are planning to release a album that refects a album series from 2015 called hyyh or the most beautiful moment in life series so the new album will look back on that era and he said "they planned to reflect on this album and they wouldve released it regardless of if they signed with us again where ever they went they still wouldve released this album" this implies bts has control/rights of the group name, has control/rights of their past music and has the option to leave the label as a group and go somewhere else or open their own label, etc so many possibilities all summed up as them having rights, control and freedom of their shit. and mind you this is the 3rd contract they signed with bighit most kpop groups do not even sign a 2nd let alone a 3rd so they had freedom in 2013 and 100% have it now as well. the ceos goal was to help artists develop into artists not create performers who arent artists. idols are more performers than artists so he made his label and signed RM with the goal to help artists develop into better artists from jump. and this also had a chain reaction of helping artists get bigger globally so they dont have to be limited to the pressures of korean society the more kpop goes global the more labels have to adapt and allow creative freedom and personal freedom and the more idols dont have to worry about the idol artist distinction or being cancelled for small things that are not issues in other countries. again sorry for the book. hope you both understand and its all documented if youre skeptical theres video, photos, interviews, lyrics, documentaries etc from 2012 - present day that show the "rules" bts did have in comparison to other labels who were oppressively strict, as well as documents all of what i spoke about how they have creative freedom how much of it they had to start and how it grew and how they can now add their ideas to everything from how a music video is edited, what they film for it, the outfits and hairstyles, the production, writing etc and even the choice of making songs in other languages picking the songs they connect with and like the message of. example jungkooks english songs he picked those songs out of a huge list read the lyrics translations understood the meaning of the songs and possible implications denied other songs he didnt like and chose who he wanted to collab with etc hes fully capable of writing his own korean songs and has many already but he wanted to challenge himself to make english songs in various pop styles based on artists that influence him like mj, usher, justin tim, justin bieber, etc etc all of this is documented in all their content through the years to the point armys predicted jungkook would either do r&b or pop because he covered so many pop artists over the years and sang karaoke on almost every live stream since 2015. again sorry for yapping hope you both get what im saying i agree they held back but its not from label control rather society trying to control celebrities and most not sticking up for themselves because the ones that do have gotten cancelled or sadly have unalived themselves from hate. like if you look into rotten mangos channel youll see how the society is outside of entertainment. i suggest the episode on the parasite actor as a good example of what im talking about. his only proven crime : cheating on his wife. while not great not worthy of how people treated him.
