My latest video is compiled from some footage I took of the few short sessions I had on Loch Leathan while I was working on doing the wiring for the new big boat shed in July 2024. It gave me a window into what it would be like, working day to day right next to one of your favourite fishing spots! Brilliant!
It's been a very busy time recently and that is why there has been a bit of a delay and also why a lot of my videos have been from The Storr Lochs, as it is a venue that has fitted in with the short time I have often had to fish. As much as I love hill loch fishing, this season time constraints have meant taking a whole day or even half a day to walk into and fish them, have been difficult.
I hope you enjoy the video, again at 16 mins it's longer than I hoped but I added the intro which made it a bit longer. If you watched it, I hope you enjoyed it and as ever, thanks to those that have subscribed, liked or commented on the videos, it really is much appreciated.
Tackle - usual 6/7 weight rod, Cortland WF7 peach floating line, 8lb mono with three droppers - flies in the video

Nice filming Mat and well done with the rainbow! Lovely big fish and a great fight too. Great to see the variety of fishing you get on Skye and how you experiment with different tactics.
Wishing you all the best with your new job and I hope you are able to fit in a few sessions wherever your work takes you.
A half hour session at a salt water venue resulted in a fresh run 2lb sea trout on my way to see my daughter. Amazing what you can squeeze in during a busy day.
Great to see your videos again Mat.
    Best wishes and tight lines.

Thanks Mike . Yes, I totally agree with you regarding time, some places you need more time but often a short session is enough. Well done on another lovely sea trout, you are having another good season. It’s true what you say about variety, rainbows aren’t for everyone and it can be controversial especially on a loch with wild trout. But the limited stocking has really helped the club and drawn people back to fish as well as new members and visitors. The fish seem to overwinter well too and the rainbows are usually in great condition. Practically everyone I speak to has also seen an improvement in the brown trout fishing too, maybe coincidence maybe not. Hopefully it will help us entice some new younger anglers too as we desperately need them.

Thank you, yes I was spoiled working beside the loch for a couple of weeks meaning once I’d finished work I could have a quick go. Hopefully we’ll get some good fishing as we move towards autumn, though at this time my attention does turn towards our rivers and salmon and sea trout. I’ll still be out for the brown trout though, sure I’ll be fishing a competition on the lochs before season end as well. All the best to you, thanks 👍

Good to see you back again, Matt ! Get you! Video-on -Video editing tricks? 😂 clever stuff!
I'm glad you managed to get out. It's tough going with a new job.
I've been employed/ self-employed several times in alternation over the years.
Good thing is paid leave (also known as fishing leave!)
Very quiet fishing wise here ATM. tried for sea trout a few times on the ribble and calder but even after a bit of fresh this week the rivers are still scummy and weedy.
September should give us better things!
Nice to see you get busy with a few fish, I hope to be treading these footsteps myself next June 👍👍

Yes, excited for your visit next year, I’m sure we’ll get you some good fishing to go with exploring the island. June is usually a very good time on the lochs - mayfly time 👍
I was watching your last two vids this morning with a brew. Great barbel Dave, excellent work getting that on a river unfamiliar to you. Reminded me of my days on the Wharfe. I also hope your RSI ailment is calming down, hopefully a bit of a rest off the fly fishing helped.
Yes, the Wye as well looked in fairly poor nick all that slime etc. i must say even the Tweed looked a tiny bit like that on the rocks, like it needed a really good flush through. I saw the thing about the chicken farming - the river shouldn’t look like that.
Yes the new job is going well, big change but it will suit me and the family much better that’s the hope. Paperwork was never ending, I just couldn’t switch off at times. The new job will bring challenges too but looking ahead it will give us more security etc. the flexibility of self employment I will miss but you just adapt. My back end river fishing will be more difficult as I won’t be able to say, go for a few hrs when there’s a lift. That’ll take a bit to get used to but tbh my fishing is much more shorter trips now, I’ll still take sone time late sept/oct to try to get more time on those harder to reach beats. Once i’ve been there a bit longer I’ll feel in the position where I can use the working hrs flexibility to my advantage hopefully.
All the best Dave, keep the videos coming they are always very enjoyable and informative 👍

Great video. Nice to see you out fishing again. I've struggled to get out lately also.

Thanks Toby, it can certainly be frustrating when you can’t get out. I need it for my sanity 😆 the new job will particularly affect my flexibility regarding back end river fishing and it’ll take a bit to get used to but the other positives outweigh that.
there were some very good catches week before last so I was itching to get out, but when you tend to just be doing very short trips it limits where you can go as you know. The river that had a good run, the bit I fish you need a good few hrs really to do it justice, the walk in alone takes up time. But the main thing is we had a good run which is great news for the river, that’s the main thing. It may be back to normal sept/oct or next season but for now you just have to take the small wins where salmon are concerned.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks as always mate, hopefully next season or before sept end I might make a hill loch trip I know many of my vids have been Storr Lochs centric! But it’s just what I’ve been able to fit in. Hope you get some more free time to get out yourself Toby 👍

@highlandfishingdiary8818 I've got a week on the Findhorn booked in September and another day booked also. Hopefully work calms down a bit over the winter and we can try and get out for some pike fishing this year. Hopefully you can get some chance to get out yourself soon.

@@Hardlinesangling yes we’ll have to get something arranged this winter. Are you on FB or anything just thinking of any easier way to message/arrange something.
The Findhorn trip sounds great i’ll keep everything crossed for you getting favourable conditions 👍
