    Philadelphia's most dangerous street.
Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

They are incapable of healing themselves. Drug use is not the problem. Mental health is the issue in which drugs use is for self medication. They need to be forced (yes, I said forced) into mental health facilities for treatment.

Why don’t you mention that many of these people come from intact families and chose to go in the wrong direction when they thought that weed, beer and Molly were “cool”? Many are homeless because of addiction alone, They have had counseling and may have been in rehab numerous times. Some manage to come to Kensington to get high, then go home to their nice middle class families again until their addiction gets too bad.

Released in 1993, and STILL, this song is relevant. That's just sad. Oh and it's Bruce Springsteen's, if it matters any.
    I was bruised and battered
    I couldn't tell what I felt
    I was unrecognizable to myself
Saw my reflection in a window
And didn't know my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away
    On the streets of Philadelphia?
I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Just as black and whispering as the rain
    On the streets of Philadelphia
Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
A thousand miles just to slip this skin
The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
Or will we leave each other alone like this
    On the streets of Philadelphia?

Even though this is all depressing…Jon Bon Jovi and his wife just opened a homeless shelter and treatment facility on Kensington Ave! They donated 300,000 and 1 million to help these people! This is fantastic news! Even though addicted people usually don’t want help (I’m a recovering one, so I know the stubbornness of this illness) at least there is help for them! What a fantastic man and wife duo to do that!!!

I'm sorry but the sad truth is mental health and drug addiction requires involuntary institutionalization, such as psychiatric wards, in the majority of cases. These poor souls do not have control of their situation. They are incapable of treating themselves. The evidence is quite apparent that this is a top national issue if you account for government spending (social services and law enforcement), and crime levels. Psychiatric wards are also sometimes called mental health wards or behavioral health wards. Regardless of the name, they're generally places designed to provide intense care for psychiatric patients whose needs cannot be adequately met in an outpatient setting.

Drug addiction and crime drive poverty. Many of those people if not addicted to drugs would not be there. Many had jobs and lost them because of drugs. The mental health self-medicating trend has lead to increased drug use which has led to increased crime. Many of these people turn down housing because they'd rather spend money on drugs.
If we are going to do anything about this, we need to go out and give people two choices
    1) Be helped, supported to get back to a decent life without drugs and homelessness. Our elderly, our veterans, families who fell on hard times or just a need a little help all would be helped We'd have the money because we wouldn't be spending it on giving out free needles and crack pipes, etc. OR
    2) Don't be helped and then be moved to a walled city where everyone in there feels the same and no one gets out except when they pass. They can work out their own societal norms and the rest of us won't have to see them destroy themselves. So many people's brains are gone due to drugs that they couldn't work if they tried.

At 05:19 there is a young girl sitting on the short wall of the park wearing a black and blue dress with a yellow bag and a leopard print bag next to her.
She looks like she really doesn't belong there.
Watching her, she seems to just be exhausted and is nodding off but then catching herself.
Her expression is one of being hopelessly lost.
    How did she get there?
    Why is she there?
I'd like to see someone interview her and possibly help her.
I do hope that she's not a druggie and prostituting herself for the money.
    THAT would be a shame.
OF course I feel empathy for ALL of those lost souls there in the Kensington area but this one girl just seems so out of place.
I can imagine her desperation breaking down so low as to be taken advantage of by the "street rats" that are constantly looking for just such an opportunity to "capture" a young and innocent girl.

I have a real issues with public figures not addressing any of these issues with homelessness and drug addictions have been an issue for decades.
It is has never been so prevalent as it is now.
Yes, everyone is responsible for their own behavior but when you have mental health issues where you have Duly diagnosed patients diagnose, mental health and drug addiction, it’s not so easy.
This can be manageable if they took the initiative to do so I feel as though they just don’t care 😢😢
If several companies wanted to come in and invest money into that area and build it up with billions of dollars I’m sure the city will find a way to clean it up and do something about it so again I feel it’s about money
    But prayers are powerful 🙏🏼🙏🏼♥️♥️
When there’s no other way to fight back fight back with prayers🙏🏼♥️

Welcome to Biden America if you don't have jobs homelessness and drug addictions is bound to happen.Kensington used to have Textile factory and good jobs now Asia got them. Remember what things were like before Bill Clinton 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement and welfare reform.

What do they eat? Where do they shower? How can they hang on to any belongings without having them stolen? How are they all able to make money to afford their habit? Why does Xylazine keep you standing and balancing instead of falling over? Is alcohol a problem there? I don’t see much drinking, if any. So many questions.
To be able to walk to my refrigerator and pantry full of nourishment for my family and pets, have a shower with clean clothes and a warm bed. I will never take these average things for granted.

It's like they all know and need each other's help and company. It's sad, but I think that seems the only positive point I thought to notice.
