AMERICAN HISTORY X (1998) " First Time Watching" Movie Reaction!! This was Mind Blowing!

  • I went into this film without any expectations and I must say I was truly mind blown. Trying to stay open minded through a film of this magnitude was definitely a challenge because finding a reason to hate someone who truly despises you race is easy. Within the first 10sec of the movie I thought I had come to conclusion of my thoughts of Danny, but as the movie continuing on my perspective of him and character changed. As always I keep my reaction authentic and opinions honest and you will see.

Not being biased? The film is about racial bias!?!? It's about how dominant power structures indoctrinate poor white folk into supporting the dominant powers against there own benefit. OP of this video is soft AF because it's good for his income and views. I'm a white trans lady and hate how much people have to censor themselves to make a buck, how folks have to take a centrist side when the center means that some hate is okay. This film attempts to show how working class whites are propagandized to exclude working class minorities but ends up being hate porn for white supremecists.

Lamont (the black inmate who befriends Derek) is probably the most important character of that movie. He's not deterred by Derek's demeanor, affiliation or tattoos. He just saw an opportunity to turn someone filled with hate and anger into an actual person again and he acted on that opportunity. And that's where the genius of that character lies, because they don't wave Lamont in your face as some kind savior; but as one of, if not the, most critical catalyst for Derek's change.

Excellent reaction n I love your thoughts after the movie!! I actually sat my kids down when they were around the 12-14 year mark n had them watch that movie, cuz I believe it's an excellent way to show people how to try n see things from someone else's perspective, AND it perfectly embodies why you should always and only judge each individual person by their character, n never their color or religion or anything else for that matter... n it's a great teacher in why hatred is so poisonous n how it leads you so far astray, even from your own good... I wanted my kids to have that sense of fairness n right n wrong that I think that movie is so amazing at getting you to see n really take a deep look inside yourself n realize how much everything you do n say can have such powerful impacts on those around you, so you have to be vigilant about the messages you let out into the world cuz you never know how something you said or did could impact another in a way that could lead to tragedy later on, n there's just some shit you can't take back n you can't undo... idk... it seemed to work. I have amazing productive adults for my kids, with huge hearts n a great sense of empathy n kindness, fairness n love for everyone until they give them some kind of reason not to, but I am safe in the knowledge that reason will NEVER involve the color of another person's skin tone... I was not a perfect mom, or even a great one, truth be told... but I know at least I got that part right, instilling this deep core belief in them... n as brutal n heartbreaking as that movie is to see, it made those points so very well... I just think it helps bridge what can tend to be a huge divide, when taken in the context in which it's meant... but anyways, just wanted to say I appreciate this video n you taking the time to watch it n to give such great dialog about it afterward! Much love!

I think it’s much the same with bigotry; people don’t need to be taught how to be racist...tribalism is deeply rooted in our evolutionary history since we are, after all, social mammals...what we learn is what groups it’s acceptable to be bigoted towards

It's weird trying to put it to words, but it's not the man lying there with the teeth on the curb that's the worst bit. It's Nortons leg. I don't know what he actually stomped on, but that stomp wasn't pulled at all. The other night i was breaking sticks of firewood with my heel so it'd fit the the little stove we've got on the deck. Stomping hard to break them in two. There was less hesitation and greater purpose to Norton. He didn't just intend to kill. He wanted to kill, and he didn't just consider the man worth killing, he hated him so much that what he most wanted in life that moment was killing him. Yeah, he made him bite the curb, but he stomped him out like pest, his life not worth taking his time. Absolute disregard for his humanity. Chilling doesn't begin to describe it.

The message that all hatred does is hurt everyone around you and yourself. The principal was a real one. He really tried to save this kid from going down a dark path. While he was unsucesaful he cared about his students we need more teachers and principals and especially board and superintendents like that principal who care about their students and dont see them as “just numbers”
