After having heard about one million bad covers of this song I said I do not want to hear "Light my Fire" ever again in my life.. Now I broke my word and tried this one. What can I say? Everything this guy touched turned into acoustical gold.
I find pointless to talk about How nice English pronunciation the second language learners have. He is one of genuine artists I know, he covered this song with his own colour, which is not really common in cover songs, and I think the English accent he has adds the specialty of this song.
For the people bashing hide's English it's actually pretty good. More mumbled than I'd like (probably because he was drunk) but he is actually avoiding some of the worst Japanese/English mistakes (he can actually pronounce R's and rolling Rs, which sets him above the usual "file" or the better but still not good "fiyaaa," for one, when he's NOT mumbling or shying from the mic he's actually enunciating quite well). Hell, his English is better than almost any of his contemporaries at the time (Gackt around that era? Pfft, he was to blame for "fiyaa",)
not to mention he was probably a little nervous about the guitar solo. it's fairly obvious he had a small struggle with it but still fairly flawless. plus this is 'unplugged' so some of the muffle could come from the recording itself because of the small compition of acoustics .
Fantastic cover by hide! i didn't think he could pull this one off but he sure did and this coming from a major Doors fan! Bravo and thanks for posting this!
Agree... noted also... he's having trouble with foldback in-ear... it its not there, or reverberating, as we heard in the vocal toward the end, that can really put you off! (I know this, cos I am a singer also.) He's done a great job on this, love his voice!
He made his own style of the song. He has his own color. Doesn't matter the language skill. We enjoy the state and the song. And of course love him too Then that is it.
Man, hide has passed on just like Morrison. hide was a legendary guitarist for a legendary J-Rock band. Just lay off and maybe instead of being intolerant you should check out some more of his work. You WILL be impressed, I assure you!
