We are in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville Kentucky. This story is one that I immediately wanted to tell as soon as I read about it. Please comment and I hope you enjoy.

Being of Native American and Irish descent, I totally understand the stubborn part-my parents said my brother and I were always mule headed (that's another way of saying really really stubborn lol). Hadn't heard this story and got a good chuckle when you mentioned he was buried standing up so he could hurl epithets/curses/insults in the afterlife. My thinking is he has no worries, why carry a grudge to the afterlife? Surely he can transport everything safely without tossing insults to others in the afterlife.

I think the guy was nuts. That tomb he's entombed is has never been taken down, but I know its pretty creepy. I saw it many years ago and it beats anything weird in the other states.

Everybody knows that Marilyn Monroe is entombed at Westwood manorial park in L.A. but do you know that the person in the crypt above her is a gentlemen his name escapes me but his final request was to be buried face down so he could look at her for eternity could you do a story on him

Hey Whitdocs, if you're ever back in Vermont, there's a guy who was buried and had a window put on his grave so he could see out because he was terrified to be buried alive. The window peeps down to his body. You probably already knew about this but figured I would mention it.

I find it amazing so many people find it funny or cute that his daughter was so disrespectful to rebury her father and put someone she knew he hates beside him forever. Also I know Cave Hill cemetery pretty well because I don't live far

I understand that his original tomb complete with porthole stood in a remote area overlooking the Ohio River for many more years but was removed in more recent years due to vandalism.
I'd love to see pictures from research like other channels do. That would be cool
In Virginia, there's a Slave owners corpse buried standing up overlooking his fields. He told the slaves he owned that he would be watching over them for the rest of the plantations days. They believed the owner and lived scared to death ever after. its near Roanoke

This is both a strange and funny video. I would hate to know that I carried that kind of hatred of others to my grave. Kind of poetic justice that his daughter had him buried with a steamboat captain. Thanks for sharing this Chris. Have a great weekend!

Lol. That’s great! I was on a road trip through New England. And the last day is when I got sick. Surgery over and I’m doing good. I’m looking forward to your visits. I thought Vermont was beautiful.
My Great grandmother came from Ireland to New York between 1881 and 1887 and my Grandfather came to New York from Poland in 1895 . Its in the DNA .
Whiskey Pete, of Whiskey Pete's casino on the NV / CA border, asked to be buried standing up, holding a gas pump hose, with a bottle of whiskey at his feet, facing the road. When they built the freeway they dug up his coffin. When the crew heard that story, they loaded the coffin into a backhoe, drove it high up into the mountain range behind the casino, and reburied him, standing up, holding a gas pump hose, with the original bottle of whiskey at his feet, facing the casino. They added a fresh bottle of whiskey, minus the toast they all drank to him.

Cave Hill Cemetery is a beautiful place
People that angry end up in Hell, not "resting in peace" so they can hurl curses after death. If this story is true, then he failed the tests of life, and was also self centered with an overbearing sense of entitlement. I feel sorry for him. Hell is not a good place for anyone to end up.

That’s pretty cool. He hated captains that much. Have you thought about covering the tent graves of northern Tennessee? They are fascinating. I just mean down the road. I’m sure you have more videos planned.

So he was buried standing up. It didn't take too long till the body start to undo and the bones would be at the bottom of the coffin. Death truly is the greatequalizer!

It could be a little like the incident in Chicago; one mobster was being planted in Mount Carmel, next to the man he'd had murdered a week or two before his own demise. The sexton remarked to a nearby policeman that he wouldn't like to be there on Resurrection morning...... There's a legend from the Chilterns (England) about someone buried sitting at a table - and wasn't an American lady buried sitting at the steering wheel of her very expensive car?
I would hate to carry that hate around everyday...I can only imagine he must have died from a heart attack...great story!

There is a guy buried in our local cemetery that was in the civil war and he was buried facing the south so he could raise up on Judgment Day facing the South?? Wow that is bitterness!

He's not the only Capt to b buried like that. One Capt was buried in his tomb the same way in Indiana, and the tomb is still there but the Capt was moved to cemetery along time ago cuz the original tomb was on his property not n cemetery. Anybody could just mess with it so they moved him
